About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

Wonderful golf
Tee time was 8:10. The starter let us start early. Course was in very good condition We set up to play the following week.

Awful pace of play and awful staff
The pace of play was atrocious. Had multiple groups waiting on one group the whole time. Was at the 4 hour mark getting to hole 16, we ended up leaving as did the group behind us.
I asked the guy at the club house if he had, had any complaints, he said no???? Like i was dumb to ask the question. He was condescending there after.
The course is great but the Marshall is useless. Doesn’t keep up w pace of place.
Besides that, great price for a great course.

Can’t beat it!
I’ve been playing at Bay Forest golf course since it opened. It has gone through subtle changes over the years. What hasn’t changed is the course is always in great condition and the price can’t be beat. It is challenging with water in play on several holes. The city of La Porte takes care of this place as opposed to other municipal courses in the area.

Good layout and nice greens.
Several wide opened fairways for long drives, great greens. Challenging waters and bunkers. Like this course.

Working on the course
They are working on cart paths which was a bummer but also encouraging that they continue to improve this course. Overall a great experience. Best municipal greens in the area.

Played 2 times this week. Play was super slow one day but fine the other . greens and course in very good shape, but sidewalk repair is going on, so they had a few holes changed the par and moved up a bunch.. Staff was nice but snack bar host and cart girls not very outgoing.
I will go back though, i like the course and the maintenance is good!
