About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

The place to play
I have been playing at Bay Forest for as long as I can remember. I’ve played the other courses on the south side of Houston but, nothing compares to the overall quality as well as the price! A nice mix of conventional and links style of play.
Pace of play is almost always great.

Worth the drive
My friend and I travel in and around Houston to play golf This coarse is by far one of the best we have played. I live in Pearland but I will jump at the chance to play here.. Friendly staff and very well stocked club house. And the cart girl was very pleasant as well.

Really good Bang for the buck
Great value! Only issues are the back 9 can back up pretty badly. Could benefit from a Marshall helping to keep pace of play consistent

Best golfing deal in the area, bar none!
The course was overall in very good shape from tee to green. The rough was consistent and well maintained. Lots of water. Nice amenities, pro-shop. Affordable snack bar.

Small group Texas Scramble
This was the 3rd time I have organized a small outing from my local community at the course. The layout is particularly suited to a scramble with 5 par 3 and 4 par 5 With the water hazards playing off the middle to back tees can be a challenge The staff were very helpful and accommodating. The cost was very reasonable. It is one of the best kept public courses in my area. I would highly recommend bay Forest

Course Quality
Visited recently to check conditions as I was considering joining there. The greens were good and bunkers were recently reworked. Cleanup on the course of trees downed from storms etc was improved. Fairways were thin and some tee boxes had grass patches for repairs. This course used to be very nice. Still needs some work and there was a recent fire to the clubhouse and restaurant. I’ll check back in a month or so.
