About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

Overgrown Rough Everywhere
A golf game on a public course is meant to be enjoyed. However, it took me over 1 1/2 hours to get off as a single and the clubhouse said I must stop playing 30 minutes before dark. I have never been told that at any course I have played on. The overgrown, high rough covered the entire course, including the practice green, making it difficult to play and find your ball. The rough around the practice green was so high you could not practice hitting a chip or pitch shot. I lost several golf balls right next to the fairway during the round because the rough was ankle deep and above the golf ball. It took extra long to play the round because everyone was having problems finding their balls in the deep rough that was all along the fairway and around all the greens. I used to enjoy playing the course but will not be back to play it until they make the rough reasonable and shorter so it is fair and more enjoyable to play. The course should also abandon their rule to stop play 30 minutes before dark if they plan on charging a full price for a round of golf.

Great Course For The Money
Before our tee time the course had 2 inches of rain and the entire course was still in great shape. I’m almost reluctant to give a good review so it remains an under the radar gem. For the money you can’t beat this course. The grounds crew have done a great job in keeping the course in very goid playable shape for a low cost round of golf. Some of the greens were slightly patchy on the edges but the pin placement took those areas out of play for the entire round.

I can play here ANY DAY of the week!! The layout is immaculate and the greens are always fast...The staff is always very friendly and very accommodating....I highly recommend this course if you're EVER in the area!!

Course is in great shape.
You’ll pay a lot more around the area to play on
Inferior greens and fairways. A great value wonderful place to play.

Fun course great price
Booked a 2 twosome for my brother and I. 250 pm ter time on a Saturday. Wasn't very busy so Pace of place was excellent. Upon arrival stsff was friendly and helpful. Cart died on 15 but they got a caet to us quickly. I am a 14 handicap so enjoyed the wide fairways but the water hazards do bring challenges for club selection. Greens rolled true and were semi fast. Will definitely return and beautiful course

Good course at good price
We love this course. Usually it is cooler than those in the Houston city. Though it takes about 1 hr on the road, overall, the course conditions, course layout, and good price make the game quite enjoyable. Last Friday afternoon, the weather is little hot and humid, it would have been a pleasant golf outing if there was not so much mosquitos attacking you. Not sure if any kind of mosquito control spay can suppress the mosquito during this wet and hot season.
Except the mosquito, everything is good there.
