About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

Great Golf Course
Outstanding service personnel to assist you in getting ready to play golf. Very consistence in helping you prepare to play the course, never had any problems. Great golf course lay out. Make you play golf and stay focus on your game. Great service snack bar and golf cart concession for food and drinks. Greens are all ways great for putting. I love this golf course. Thanks for making golf enjoyable to play.

Greens are in great condition, enjoyed course layout and improvements to course since my last visit many years ago.

Best greens in HTX area
This course is a gem. Challenging layout with tight fairways and the fastest greens I’ve played in Houston. The fairways were a little rugged on one or two holes but it does not take away from the round. I will definitely be returning to this course quite often.

The condition of the course was great. Only hole #4 was cart path only. All others were fine. The employees were friendly and professional.

Bad vibe.
Would not let us order grilled food on hole 8 to pick up and take with us at the turn. Lots of cart path only holes standard.
My buddies described it perfectly. It a muni course and they want to keep it local. Would go elsewhere where the staff is more relaxed and you can enjoy the round and experience. This course has a vibe of play quick and get out.

This course is ideal for all levels of player.
The level of difficulty is determined by the tee a player chooses. The weather conditions will play into the difficulty equation. This course is one of the best public venues in the greater Houston area for the price.

Bayforest is playing real good, overall greens are fast & smooth. I tend to walk this course, it has new challenges every round.

One of the Top Municipal Courses in Texas
Always in very good conditions and the staff does a really good job of not over booking the facility. Place of play is well marshaled as well. The course has an abundance of trees and water to increase the difficulty of an otherwise typical seaside course. Much better and faster greens than most municipals. Club house and cafe are nice.

Nice course
The course was wet so it was cart path only. Despite the rain the course was in very good condition. Check in was easy and the staff was friendly. Pace of play was good. On the 18th hole the grounds crew was grooming a bunker around the green. As we approached the green a crew member came up and apologized for performing maintenance while we were playing. It was no issue to us but speaks volumes to customer service and wanting the proper optics to represent their brand. Great job all.

Round 2 at Bayforest
This was my second time at Bayforest. The first time Bayforest beat me, the second time? It was another difficult round. The layout of water, woodlands, and length is challenging to any level of player. Added to that are the lightening fast greens. The greens are professional level:; twice as fast as the courses I ordinarily play. Three-putting is common. The course is in fairly good shape for the price. The fairways are browning a bit perhaps due to heavy rainfall. The greens may have a patch here or there subject to decay but mostly not. If you are up for the challenge you may be able to "knockout" Bayforest or maybe it will beat you!

Good course, great conditions
This course far exceeded my expectations in both the quality of the design and the condition of the golf course. While the course sits on typical Houston terrain (dead flat) the greens, bunkers, and really cool grass bunkers elevate the visual impact on your round. Alongside the typically flat terrain you will find typically ample water hazards; there is water in play on 16 holes. I knew there was a lot of water going into the round and it was one of the reasons I didn't have high expectations; that much water rarely equates to fun. The fairways played wide, however, and it helped provide a round with a healthy mix of do-or-die shots and safe options for most players. With that said, I suspect beginners and physically weaker players might find the course to be too punishing.
The conditions were superb and the best I have played in Texas all year. The greens were fast and fair and very interesting as well. Great job, Bay Forest.
