About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

Great course! Great place to t it up.
This course is a hidden gem. It’s in great shape! The greens hold up well, and is well maintained. It’s worth the effort to get there.

Nice course
Round was good but golf now didn't help as it was regular rate. Probably would have been better to just show up at the course and pay as only got a couple points for booking here.

Nice Course
Great course for the money. Greens are very well upkeep. Practice areas are good shape. The only thing I would complain about is there needs to be at least 2 beer carts running. Especially when it is getting more hot. But all in all one of the best courses I play in the area.

COVID 19
Great round of golf - but was shocked that they tried to insist that the golfers should pair up in the carts. Especially when Houston is at its most severe stage and the club house has mandatory mask policy.
I guess they figure once you get to the first tee box all the precautionary stuff should go by the way side.
No one accepted the ask to pair up in the carts which led to a discussion of them being disappointed.
Recommend calling ahead to ask what the policy is with regard to single carts while Covid-19 is attacking Houston

Tough Course but Fun
This course is somewhat challenging, with water in play almost every hole. The greens were VERY fast, cost me a couple strokes on front 9. But overall very good challenging course.

I play courses all over the Houston area.
And playing this course today was very pleasant. All the greens were fast but in decent condition.
All the fairways were in good condition.
This will not be my go to course for playing and range practice.

One of my favorites
The course is in good shape. A little dry in areas but we haven’t had much rain lately. I’ve always liked the layout. The greens have been aerated and sanded recently but are in good shape and roll true.

Exceptional golf course
Very challenging course, Water comes into play on 15 holes, great layout. Best greens in the Houston area for a municipal course. Great and friendly staff.

Fun layout, challenging.
Maintained well. Good greens and fairways. Course is well balanced. Offers water and trees, challenges. Nice driving range and chipping areas. A nice tucked away little gem.

Exceptional condition and challenging layout
One of if not my new favorite course to play at. I drove an hour and a half just to play this course (same distance as Moody Gardens in Galveston) and was not disappointed. Greens are challenging but in outstanding condition as are the fairways. I'll be back.
