About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

Awesome greens
Course is in really good shape and the greens are what keeps me coming back. Best greens around and super fast. Staff is friendly and the food is great. I will definitely be back to play again.

Bay Forest
Great course. We love playing here. Greens are always really nice and fast. Water was ice cold throughout the course. We got behind a slow group, but they let us play through, so that was nice. We’ll be back. We got a hot deal for $12 so we jumped on it

Greens roll true. Not as fast as they look, but roll smooth and true. Course was in great shape. Worth the money, which wasn't much.

Good value for $
Course is in good shape. Staff is pleasant. We played behind a 3’some that we’re there to drink beer and not play golf. They were wearing t-shirts, gym shorts. Hit 3-4 tee shots off 75% of the tee boxes. At one point they shot gunned beers on the the tee box while we were waiting for them to move on. Not one time did we see the anyone out checking the course. They had 2 holes open in front of them and we were pushed by the groups behind us.

Great course, everything was in fantastic condition. Only complaint was that they don’t have a price break until 2 PM. So wether you play 7 am or noon it is same cost, probably means next time I won’t play any tee time after 9 am because $49 for a midday summer tee time is a little steep.

The course is a bit wet on 3 holes (cart path only). But greens, fairways and tee boxes are in great shape.

Course was Wet, but Maintained
Recent rains in the area had us cart path only; however, the course was very playable for the most part.
Pace of play was an issue on the back nine after my fore-some caught another fore-some, several groups backed up. Too bad most courses don’t regulate pace of play. If you’ve got extra time this is a good course.
