About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

Long time
Haven’t play in years mainly due to distance and traffic.
Don’t like heavy truck traffic. Course in great shape especially compared to some high price course thru out the Houston area. Greens are fast and smooth. Fairways good for a public course. Will play again but only during non business hours.

Great value
First time to play. This course and overall experience were very good. Pace of play was very good. The overall course conditions have got to be towards the top of the courses available on GolfNow, and the greens were really really good. Rolled very true, no burnt areas and very fast down hill. When I pay $10-12 on GolfNow, I know I have to temper my expectations, but this course , on every level, exceeded my expectations. I’ll definitely be back. Side note: got a chopped beef sandwich during the turn and it was the best I’ve ever had. If I go blind and crippled tomorrow and never swing another club, I’ll be back for that sandwich. Seriously.
If I have to complain about something to validate my compliments, I’ll say I wish the fairways were much more undulating and not so flat tee to green. I felt this took away from the look and feel of the course.

Great Day
Other than the holes that were cart path only (course does not drain very well) and I drove the ball on the opposite side of the paths, it was a great day. Greens were good.

Some of the best greens in the area. Even in the winter they roll well. Can’t wait for the spring and the grass to come in.

Fair and fun
Course played great for mid January with lots of rain. Greens were quick and true. Not much roll but play the correct tees@! We'll be back.

Hidden SE gem
First time playing this course after seeing it on GN for a while now and it for sure will not be my last. The gentleman working the cashier was extremely friendly and gave some playing tips once we said this was our first time. As we checked in with the starter, again we were welcomed by another friendly person who offered more course tips as well as casual conversation.
Course provided a challenging layout with water in play on many holes. Given it had rained prior, the greens were still pretty fast and rolled true on all greens. Course was still very wet and despite playing “cart path only” and being behind 2 foursomes, the pace of play was monitored well and we finished just a little over 4 hours.
Will definitely be back on the course once the weather clears up

Soggy
Have played this course for many years. Love the layout and always played tough. The greens were in good shape. My complaint is that one would think as much business this course gets they would spend money on improving the drainage system. Poor poor poor!!!! They don't hesitate to take your money Lol. At least a complimentary drink!!!! I don't think the course is worth $40.00 or so with the poor drainage system.

Great Greens
Course is looking good, a little wet in a couple of fairways, but the greens are in great condition.

Have been in Houston for 4 days now and am begining to get webbed feet. Why are courses so wet?
Last minute decision
I am in Houston Tx. For 5 weeks so i want to play numerous courses but,being by myself today i turned to golf now.They made me a tee time on a weekend with 3 great people and the kicker was the price was more than half off.I will be using them from now on when I’m out of town and more.
