Bay Forest Golf Course
About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

Greens were good shape only downside was cart path only could have been 90 degrees
Beautiful day!
Course was cart path only due to recent rains. If there is any downside to the course, it is drainage. The greens were in excellent shape. Fairways were mowed and in fairly good condition. I think tomorrow will be 90 degrees.
Great Conditions
The course is looking great. The pace of play was much slower than should have been, almost five hours for a late morning on a Thursday. But it was a beautiful day so it was tolerable.

Course was in good condition and greens were good and was really dry from all the rain we've had
Great hot deal value
I’ve been playing here for years and it never seems to disappoint. Me and my buddy were paired up with a Father/Daughter group and it was one of the most enjoyable rounds I’ve played in years. Hole 4 which is par 5 is currently playing as a par 3 while they re-sod the fairway. The course is in excellent shape. Will continue to play here for many years to come.
Unfriendly Staff
Course is great but they have a firm cut off of 18:15 pm when carts should be in (which they don't post or show anywhere), and if you're not in by 8:05 pm the course marshall will come out to the 17th hole where you are trying to finish up on and begin to harass and threaten banning you unless you get off of the course immediately, instead of just politely reminding you of the time like any other decent human being.
Good condition
I’ve always enjoyed the course layout. The course is well maintained, with the exception of hole number 4, which is having the fairway worked on, but that was communicated if you clicked on the course details.
Greens rolled true, just a fun course to play.

The course was in good condition and greens were pretty good but could be a little faster
First round but not my last
I found this course as a result of late booking for my Saturday round. It has a very small Pro shop and if you’re missing something from your bag other than ball and tees this shop isn’t the one you’re looking for. The staff are right there as you enter and are very friendly and receptive to inquiries for a first time player. The starter was accommodating to our group which had two new golfers in it. The course has just enough water to make you decide on driver or fairway wood off the tee a few times and the par 3s will give you a chance to pick up a par if you hit the number. Overall a good value in the Houston public course market. It had a great weekend price that will make you take a peek before you look for a higher rated course.
Still a fun course
I’ve played Bay Forest probably 50 times in my life. I’ve played it during seeding, aeration, drought, and rain. Water come into play on 14 holes or so...and I’ve been in every one of them at some point. It’s a fun course. Arguably not as “cool” or “challenging” as some courses with a similar price point, but it’s fun and challenging...and that extra money goes to fund outstanding course/turf management. Great food at the turn, cold beverages, overall a great time. I’ll continue to play this course for years.
Good Course
I’ve always enjoyed this course, I like the layout, it has some interesting holes. The front 9 is a par 35 and the back is a par 37. This day the greens were below normal, they had recently been punched, so it was difficult to get a smooth roll. I would give it a few weeks to line out, if the greens come back, it’s a great course.
The course bested me!
Will definitely play again NOW that I know where NOT hit some shot since this was my first round here. Truly a shot makers course which is very good! Enjoyed the track and challenge.
When it’s in good shape, it’s great.
In good shape right now but can be a bit rugged at times. They’re punching it next week so let’s hope it comes back strong.
