Bay Forest Golf Course
About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

Good course
I played this course in what was wet conditions as twp holes were cart path only. Overall it was not too wet but had spots left over from the rain where it was wet. The greens were pretty brown from the freeze but putted well anyway.
Rugged Conditions
Course was cart path only & range closed when other courses were normal operation. Extremely wet. Shop staff service is horrendous. Course can be good when conditions are good, but that’s iffy. Service has been bad for years.
Soggy and unplayable
Best Golf Course in Houston for the money.
Should have closed the course on Monday, way to soggy, too much water everywhere.
That being said my favorite course hands down.
Wet
T seems like there should be a cart path advisory on the GN app. I didn’t like learning about CPO after I drove across town to play there for a premium price.
Bayforrest
Although it had rained the day before.... Course was still in good shape... Greens were very slick and rolled true.... The course is pretty open, but go too much right or left... Gonna play long
Beautiful Day
Course was in great shape for this time of the year and considering we had two frost delays and a little snow the past seven days. Three of the par 5's were cart path only due to wet fairways but other than that all was well.
Best Conditioned Course in Houston
Best Golf Course in Houston.
Period.
Always in great shape.
Greens are Second to None.
Staff awesome.
Always a marshall on the course.

Greens were smooth and fast and we finished with plenty of time. Great day for golf.
Beautiful day & nice golf course.
Weather was tremendous. Course is in great shape considering the havoc that Harvey caused. Greens are quick and the roll is true. Staff was friendly and nice.
Great Course
Booked a $21 hot deal for this course. Course was in great shape, and had a fun layout. They had water in play on lots of the holes so shot selection off the tee is important. Greens were browning a little bit, but we're firm and rolled great. Definitely top notch conditions for fall.
This course is easily on par with $40-50 greens fee courses, if not better. You won't be disappointed.
Great value
Course is in terrific shape. 3some played in 3.5 hours. Group in front of us was quick & nobody behind us. Nice sandwich at the turn. Really nice day
Nice condition, flat, good design and pace of play
The course is a nice design and almost always in excellent condition, especially the greens. Large but separated trees line the fairways on most holes. It is a flat course with water hazards on 14 holes, a good layout but few truly scenic holes. Pace of play is usually very good though, and cold water to drink is always available twice a side. (Lately the white tees have been way too far forward, not sure what is going on there.)
Course improvement suggestions: 1) Please consider a 9 hole rate instead of just 18 (like Beacon Lakes, also goes with PGA's new "Play 9" theme), 2) Ensure that practice balls are by chipping area rather than players having to furnish their own golf balls (empty a large bucket or two first thing in the morning, pick them up at the very end of the day?) 3) If you have two singles that are total strangers, during slow times maybe not always make them share a cart.
In general, it is a nice design and has reasonable prices and the course is always in good condition. IMO you will not regret playing here.
