Point Venture Golf Club
About
Built along Lake Travis in 1971, Point Venture was the first course in Leander, but has been overshadowed since the opening of Crystal Falls. The course has 9 holes that meander through a residential development and is loaded with dogleg holes and mature trees.
Jimmy Demaret designed the course, and his layout features two nasty par 5s. The best hole on the course is No. 7–a scenic hole that starts from an elevated tee box and plays downhill to a green surrounded by a lake.
Getting there : From I-35, exit FM 1431 and drive west approximately 25 miles to Lago Vista. Turn left on Lohman Ford Rd. and drive 8 miles to the Point Venture guard gate.

Not worth the drive
Greens are in terrible shape - tons of bare spots, and the fastest I've ever played on (in a bad way). Fairways are so-so but lots of drainage issues - swampy and stinky. No actual water hazards or bunkers. Only 9 holes. No hot food at the clubhouse. No beer cart. Won't be back.
Good time
Greens a little rough, but overall course was in good shape. Staff is very friendly. Had a great time
Point Venture 2021
Great little 9 hole course. Greens could use some TLC Some of them hardly had any grass at all.
Great course
The was our first time playing here. The course was in very good conditions, as week as the carts and the off-course amenities. Couple of par 5 holes and a lot of par 4s. You also have Great Lake views in some of the holes and presence of several deers. I will definitively come play here again.
Course was in good shape but just aired the greens so that was disappointing
Sorry, but just don't.
I take no joy in being a hater, and I can have a good time on almost any golf course. But a "Hot Deal"? For $43 a person? No. Nine holes, first of all (which is my fault for not reading the fine print before booking). Conditions are far, far worse than any muni in Austin. The color green doesn't exist on a single green (black, brown, and yellow, yeah, plenty of those). The holes are all short, surrounded on either side by dumpy townhouses or apartments. Not a single bunker on the course. Zero water. Fairways are wildly patchy even in the dead center. It's close to the lake, so I thought we'd at least get some views, but you catch a glimpse of it exactly once. Balls fly through the "greens," as slick as bumpy concrete. We gave up after nine holes. After reading the other reviews here, I had to go back and double-check that we're talking about the same course. If you think this is a good golf course, you should try playing literally anywhere else. Your mind will be blown.
Drive a Little Farther
Point Venture is in far better shape than Lago Vista. It is only 9 holes, but it is a blast. The people are friendly and the pace of play can’t be beat. The carts have the super comfy plush seats and USB chargers. The drinks are reasonable. I play all around the Austin area, and this was more fun than most. We tee’d off as a twosome and maybe had a wait on one hole for a couple minutes all day. We were playing fast! We planned to play 18, but got in 24 in the time we’d told our wives it would take.
Don’t count on the food truck. We wanted pizza, but the truck was never open in the 4 times we tried...on a Saturday.
Actually, stay away. I want to keep this pace of play. I’m heading back.
Rough spring
Fairways and tee boxes were pretty tight/bare, but what could reasonably be expected 5 weeks after an unprecedented blizzard? Grass is still struggling to recover and grow throughout central Texas. Who knows how long it will continue to affect our golf courses?
Otherwise pleasant experience here, as always.
Beautiful day!
First 9 was slow going....2 small kids (6 & 10ish) with their father & another adult just learning to play & only 1 set of clubs between them really slowed things up in front of us. They dropped out after 9 which really sped things up. They were very nice but could have picked a less busy day to teach their kids. The course is starting to green up after the snow and ice. Management did a nice job of cleaning up tree debris after the storms. Everyone in clubhouse always sooo nice. It’s a great little course.
Glad you enjoyed your day! Hope to see you again soon!
Consistently good
This is the best golf value in the greater Austin area, period

Point Venture
It’s always fun to play this little course. The staff is always sooo nice & helpful. The greens are fast, the fairway a bit bare this time of year, & pace of play is pretty good. It’s a good value for the money.
Glad you enjoyed your round! Hope to see you again soon!
Great place to play!
Always have a blast here. Never crowded and always taken care of! Great facility and people!
Glad you enjoyed your day. Hope to see you again soon!
