Aint coming back
For what it is it isn't awful but the greens are all sand, Weeds all over, view is nice at some spots but the worst course I've ever played hands down. Guy at the maintenance office is annoying. To go to the start you have to drive down a very sketchy hill, driveway is all washed out. Bring a truck.
Poor Conditions, little upkeep
The course had an amazing clubhouse, that was the only good part. And the clubhouse was closed. The cart paths were torn up, the rough was overgrown, if you did not hit it dead center fairway your ball was gone, and sometimes even hitting it right down the middle you would lose your ball. The greens were torn up and impossible to play for real. It felt like playing a course that had been closed since the 70s. There was only one dude working, the owner i assume, and no drinks, water, food, or anything. The coolest part were the deer bones in the middle of the 6th hole. Avoid avoid avoid, unless you can somehow play for free.
Always good to golf, but not worth drive.
Ok if you live in Lago Vista to get a round in but took me 40 min to drive, road in is basically a battlefield. Wouldn’t try in a car need something with clearance to get past the deep potholes. Course is a bit rough, but greens are playable. Hopefully they can bring this back as it has potential.
Not a golf course
I’m trying to be kind, but this was awful. The road leading to the “pro shop” had so many huge potholes, I thought for sure I was going to tear apart my tires. The rough is VERY ROUGH. You miss the fairway…you’re not finding that ball. My understanding is the new owner is trying to do the maintenance himself. Admirable but don’t count on this course getting better any time soon. The guy who checked us in was nice. That was the only positive.
Diamond in the Rough
The course was fun to play, and the price is right! A nine hole adventure and run through it twice if you’re looking for 18 holes. While the facilities aren’t fancy, this is a beautiful location and fun to play.
A work in progress
The guy who bought this place is doing all the on course maintenance work himself. There’s another guy, Art, in the shed handling check in and carts. The fairways are ok and the greens are actually in pretty good shape. They’re about 1000% better than Lago Vista. The rough is ROUGH. This was a tight and difficult course to start with and now if your ball isn’t in the fairway you probably aren’t finding it. The tee boxes are also not well mowed and you have to search for some even footing. All that being said, for $12 you can’t ask for much. If you want to see the holes on an app look for Highland Lake as that’s what it used to be called. You start on 2 and end on 1 for the nine holes but at least one of the holes is different from what used to be the front nine so you kinda have to pay attention to your GPS location instead of what the app says the hole should be. If you want to do a quick solo nine it can be ok. As someone else pointed out, for the price of some range balls you can play an actual course.
Will be great.
I played this course for the first time. It was in pretty poor conditions. HOWEVER, the staff was very upfront and honest about it. New ownership are working their tails off to make this course something special and in due time, I believe they will. They’re headed in the right direction. Limited resources make building a golf course very difficult. Keep the ProV1s at home, go play, spend the $10 on golf now to support an up and coming course. Will be great in a year or two. Can’t wait to see the progress made.
Coming back alive
It's been 17 years since i played there last. Will play again
First Round Of Golf
About 8 months ago my cousin had a nice simulator installed at his ranch! After endless nights of watching him and his buddies play on it I decided to give it a try and haven’t looked back!
Woke up and decided I wanted to do a real 9 holes today! Booked my tee time and upon arrival was welcomed with open arms! “Art” got us loosened up with the hospitality and showed us what he’s working with. Though they have been through different ownership which makes it that much harder on maintaining a course, working with limited funds don’t bat an eye on this soon to be masterpiece!
Coming in the facility you will notice the road is completely shot!!! Don’t be discouraged as you will be greeted with a great time at the shop and on course! The front 9 were exceptional good fairways, decent greens and tee boxes! I didn’t feel rushed nor out of place as this was my first real game of golf staff and locals treated me like family! I will be back 100% to share the experience with friends and family call it my now home course if you may, hospitality goes along way! Cannot wait to see what the owner and My man ART do with this place!
Getting better now
It was very poor condition past few years. But seems like getting better now. Hope a beautiful course coming back like soon.
