Point Venture Golf Club
About
Built along Lake Travis in 1971, Point Venture was the first course in Leander, but has been overshadowed since the opening of Crystal Falls. The course has 9 holes that meander through a residential development and is loaded with dogleg holes and mature trees.
Jimmy Demaret designed the course, and his layout features two nasty par 5s. The best hole on the course is No. 7–a scenic hole that starts from an elevated tee box and plays downhill to a green surrounded by a lake.
Getting there : From I-35, exit FM 1431 and drive west approximately 25 miles to Lago Vista. Turn left on Lohman Ford Rd. and drive 8 miles to the Point Venture guard gate.

Great 9-Hole Course
This was my first time golfing at this course and I'm still a beginner at golfing, but I had a great time. I will definitely go back to continue practicing and getting better.
Glad you enjoyed your round - hope to see you again soon!
9 holes are better than 18
Good course to play with my 4 year old. Played with patience. Nice and slow n easy pace. . I got better on the back nine after I realized it was the same holes. Greens good. Lots of deer. Not complaining but No sand? Lol
Glad you enjoyed your day. Hope to see you again soon!
Booking Tee Times During a Tournament on a 9 Hole Course
Going forward I would really like to know if there is a tournament going on, or any course related repairs, etc. before I book a tee time. I booked a spur of the moment 2:51 at Point Venture on 07/04. When I got there I was told I would play as a single but would have to play around a tournament of locals. I almost and should have asked for my money back right then, but actually saw a twosome who had just hit from 1 and followed them up the fairway learning that they too had booked without knowing about the tournament. They had to wait 30 minutes past their tee time as tournament groups made the turn on the 9 hole course.
They let me join them but I still missed my drive and approach on 1. We then had to wait on the 4some in front of us who were horrible. Towards the end of the front nine there was at least 3 holes in front of them but they would not let us play through. These two guys only played 9 and I had to play behind these inconsiderate hacks for 9 more holes.
The really bad thing is these people were old enough to know golf etiquette and could have let me through at any time but didn't. 20 years ago I would have rained golf balls on them and there probably would have been problems on the course.
Sorry you did not have an enjoyable experience. There was just a group of 24 players having a 4th of July scramble. The first group finished 18 holes in 3 hours and 15 minutes. The rest of the groups were just a little behind them. It is tough to go to any course on a holiday especially on a Saturday as a single and expect to play in under 4 hours. I hope you give us another try in the future and hopefully you can bring a foursome and enjoy the day. Thanks for your comments!
Look forward to seeing you next time!
Neighborhood GC Gem!
Right in my backyard. I had a great recommendation to golf the course. So glad I did! This is a great “gem of a golf course” right in my backyard. I will definitely return soon.
Love this course
Fun holes. Tight fairways, but not too hard. Great course. Greens in good shape. GREAT VALUE
Glad you enjoyed your round! Hope to see you again soon!
Really really nice
All tee boxes, fairways and greens where green and in excellent condition. New club house/bar is complete and there are tons of places to sit inside and out. Overall got a great deal on 18 holes with the cart and course is in excellent condition right now. Only issue is the sewage plant between holes 1 and 2 does stink to high heaven.
Glad you enjoyed your round! Hope to see you again soon!
Nice 9 Hole Course
Layout is good. Trees can be a challenge, but no sand traps or water to navigate. There was some muddy areas even though it was 99 degrees. They must water in some low spots. Pace was slowed when we as a twosome caught a fivesome on the first 9 and then a foursome on the second time around.
Excellent shape especially for this time of year. Great value
Glad you enjoyed your round, look forward to seeing you again soon!
Fun 9 hole course
Great staff, super friendly and helpful. Fun 9 hole course!
Glad you enjoyed - see you soon!
Point venture
Sweet nine hole course with beautiful views, hills, and myriad trees. One caution: you must be patient. Many singletons and doubles slow play to a crawl at many points on the course. Why folks don’t graciously invite a couple to join them to make a foursome is beyond me! This would certainly improve the playing experience.
Great for seniors
While the day was chilly the round was enjoyable. The first and second holes require some climbing which got the blood flowing and we were more comfortable from then on. The course was in good shape and is perfect for seniors walking.
Glad you enjoyed it - see you again soon!
Fun Course!
This is a fun Course! No sand traps. No water hazards (well, you have to work hard to hit the one water hazard).
This course is fantastic for beginners and intermediate players.
Where else can you play 18 holes with a cart for $20?!?
Great place to play. Green green grass from Lake Travis water. Great place to teach your kids how to play.
I love this course! You will too.
Glad you enjoyed it - see you again soon!
Good course, not the best shape but still nice
Let's start by saying the layout and the views were great. The holes were generally well designed, although a few were a bit tight off the tee (only a problem if you are spraying it around) and the greens were smaller with a lot of contour. The deer were awesome, as many have said with this course, and the value is good too. Maybe there were places that weren't very well maintained, totally get it, and maybe there were some really slow and larger groups out there (many seemed to be locals). Overall, though, I had a good time and might be back.
Glad you enjoyed it - see you again soon!
