Holes 9
Type Public
Par 36
Length 3126 yards
Slope 124
Rating 35.1

Built along Lake Travis in 1971, Point Venture was the first course in Leander, but has been overshadowed since the opening of Crystal Falls. The course has 9 holes that meander through a residential development and is loaded with dogleg holes and mature trees.

Jimmy Demaret designed the course, and his layout features two nasty par 5s. The best hole on the course is No. 7–a scenic hole that starts from an elevated tee box and plays downhill to a green surrounded by a lake.

Getting there : From I-35, exit FM 1431 and drive west approximately 25 miles to Lago Vista. Turn left on Lohman Ford Rd. and drive 8 miles to the Point Venture guard gate.

This is a nine hole course, short enough to walk but dont leave driver in the trunk

We found the course in great shape and we got around twice in less than 3 hrs, but it didnt seem like we were hurrying. It is always fun playing here.

Point Venture - Adventure at the Point

PV is a nice tidy little gem of course. Located at the end of Lohman Ford Road is a 9 hole course that gives the player an opportunity to use every club in their bag. While there are no sand traps to be found or water hazards for that matter, there are plenty of shots that require you to work your ball around.

This course was a dump for a number of years where you go to slap and roll your ball around. But since the new management has come on board the facility, the grounds and the attitude have all changed for the positive.

Justin Orbin has given this course a new spirit. His attention to the course itself is the most telling. The only downside to playing at Point Venture is the same downside you'd find on most golf courses in Texas. Thanks to the severe drought the region has seen the fairways are most often left to their own for water. Still, Justin sees to it that the grounds are maintained and the area around the greens is given the water. The bright spot, after a good soaking rain, those fairways green right up and show a bit of the luster to come once our drought lifts.

Justin and his staff aim to present you with the opportunity for a good round of golf. You just have to hold up your end. If you can't then Justin is also a PGA teaching Pro.

In the end, the trip out to Point Venture is both scenic and rewarding - scenic because of the leisurely drive through the hill country. Rewarding because you are going to have a great round of golf.

Great course for beginners or those taking up the game again

I've been playing Point Venture for years and always have a good time out there. Never very crowded, some challenging holes but not hard by any stretch. Staff is friendly and course is kept in decent shape. Note - this is only a 9 hole course, I play the white tees then from blues on the back nine.

Other Players Often Slow or Loud

We like this course and the value is always great. The staff is laid back and friendly. Due to water restrictions the fairways are bone dry, but what can they do about that? Nothing if we do not get any rain here in Cen Tex. There does not seem to be anyone assigned to marshall the course and this is often an issue there. We have run into some super slow people who are rude and could care less that they are holding up carts of people. On Labor Day, there was a loud big group hogging the course, playing around, drinking and acting loud and drunk and there was no one moving along the course of play. We have met some very nice people there as well, but they really should monitor the course of play there better.

Pleasantly surprised...

Yes, it's a rare thing to find ... a 9-hole golf course. But with the land/area they had to work with ... it's all they could do. So for an older lake community, the locals have a decent little place to go play (for cheap#. And I imagine they mostly get just locals playing since it's quite a drive from the edge of 'town.' They have a 200yd driving range and a good sized putting green. The clubhouse is quite small but they had a really good selection of beers in bottles/cans, a couple on tap, and wine bottles. I'm guessing those wine bottles were more for when you're hanging outside at a table on their shaded porch ... or for those who wanted to just take one back home instead of driving back up Lohman's to the nearest c-store. Either way, I was tempted to get one just to drive around drinking it on the course. :# Oh, and they also have a good selection of frozen treats for the kids #or big kids like us#.

I must admit ... I expected much worse than I found. Sure there were a few dry spots in and around the fairways but it is August. And you're playing an area that borders the lake. So anyone knowing the type of trees, dirt, rocks, etc. that generally come with that around Lake Travis ... you really can't expect to find much. You'll get a fair number of doglegs #right & left# to challenge you; no one wants straightaway shots all day. The fairways were 'fair' and the greens were actually in really nice shape and rolled true ... quite a bit of undulation at times which presented some challenges. Here's another thing that'll make a course like this help you relax just a little -- no bunkers nor water hazards anywhere on the course! So, you're free to just hit away, bump 'n run, etc. Now did that really help my score today? Uhhh ... next question please. :) And it was nice to play the second holes a second time ... knowing how the hole played, pin positions, etc. I certainly scored better the 2nd time around.

challenging greens, great views of Lake Travis. Little week day traffic; a great 9 hole lay out to work on your game at a leisurely pace.

This is an excellent 9 hole course with great views of the lake, lots of wildlife and grass that generally is very lush, even in drought conditions. I like the short drive from Cedar Park ( around 25 min) to get to a course with easy access ( can just walk up at times without needing prior tee time).. A good track that can be played quickly or more slowly ( whatever pace you want) on week days.
This is a great place to learn to play or to just practice your game to get more consistency in your swing. The course is not necessarily easy to score due to pin placements on rolling greens you can easily 3 putt if not very careful. It has a finishing par 5 where birdie is possible but par is generally considered a good score. There are no sand bunkers or water hazards but tight driving lanes, dog legs, good grass and greens that provide plenty of challenges to getting a lower score. I find it just a difficult to post a low score on this course as it would be on most of the 18 hole courses in the area. Finally, the low cost is very reasonable and makes for a great value for any budget.

Great for beginners

Took my brother here for his first time golfing. Not crowded so you never felt rushed and could work on some things. No sand traps or water features to worry about. Course was surprisingly in very good condition despite the low price. Great experience for a beginner or novice, probably a disappointment for a golfer at an intermediate or above level.

Lots of water on the grass so it makes a "short" course more challenging.

Hot afternoons make for a nice, quiet play. Not too many people brave 100+ degree heat. Lots of water on the grass makes a "short" course more challenging. Even though there are no bunkers or water hazards, the course is plenty difficult, but fun.

What a great little course.

This is a 9 hole golf course, but you can play it twice for your eighteen. The course is in great shape especially for the money. I have played courses that are twice as much and are half the course. The course is a little short even from the tips but it does have some challenging holes, especially 9. Great value!

Good value

This course has a great price.

I chose this golf course to play with 2 beginners. It's good to play twice on same hole for us. But they had difficulty for tee shot because fairway was a little narrow. I think it's nacessary to take care the grass on the green. Generally, it's good because we paid only $15 for a 18-hole rounding.

Great hill country views.

The course was well maintained and greens were in good shape. The pace of play started out fine but got backed up after the first few holes. We enjoyed our play here and would return to play again.

Great for what it is

Played the course twice, second nine I was playing better, but with more people it made the pace of play pretty fast. Golf Carts weren't charged as two of mine couldn't go up a simple slope. But for the price I can't complain, I'll be back there soon.

This is a fun little "boutique" course.

Point Venture is a fun track to play. It is a short, nine hole course at just slightly over 6K yds from the back tees. Layout has lots of angles/doglegs to test your skill with ball placement off your tee shot. There is a short practice range and a small putting green for warm-up. There is a small clubhouse that includes a pretty good snack bar with outside seating. The golf carts have seen better days but still have plenty of life in them and get you around okay. The greens are well kept but are small in size; this is actually a good fit for the short yardage of the course. Nestled in a residential area very close to an arm of Lake Travis, you can still see some great views even though the lake level is way down from normal. Lots of wildlife out there, and the quiet is almost deafening! The course does not have sand traps nor bunkers, but their absence was not a negative and you hardly notice this. The course is located a good distance out in the Texas Hill Country, so be prepared to drive a while to get there. The green fee is very reasonable; a real steal at a cheap price. So if you do not mind a drive to get there, Point Venture is worth a try for a rather unique golfing experience.

Okay starter course if you're taking your kids.

Pros: Easy course. If you are wanting to take your kids and teach them how to play, this is a good course. No sand, no water.
For the area, the course is well laid out. If you live in the Lago Vista area, it is a good local option to get some play in.
Not very many people playing, so pace of play was quick.
Cons: 9 holes. So the few people who are playing can quickly get stacked up as people are making the turn from 9 back to 1.
Cost is pretty high for being 9 holes and for the quality of the course. The greens were sketchy, not well taken care of. Their were points where I was playing off of St. Augustine in the just off the fairway and around the green.

I'm an average golfer. With so many courses in the Austin area, I don't see myself coming back here. I would gladly pay a few dollars more to play a full 18 hole course. This place is good if you live local and have no other options. Otherwise, skip it.

Good little Course

I enjoy this course for the ease of play. You can get out and practice on a real course instead of simply on the range. The staff is friendly enough and the beer is cold. It has a very good practice area including a sand bunker. I have seen it in better condition when we had more rain...but overall a good little course. I want to keep it my secret though.

Challenging short yardage 9 hole course.

I love this course! Short in yardage but a great challenge once on the green. Tricky greens make up for not having to navigate around bunkers or water hazards. Wildlife is great! Never seen so many deer come so close to us but never caused any delay in play. I take my 8 ur old there as well because of their jr tee boxes. Great 9 hole course for me to work on my short game with some holes reachable for the bigger hitters especially from the white tees.
