Point Venture Golf Club
About
Built along Lake Travis in 1971, Point Venture was the first course in Leander, but has been overshadowed since the opening of Crystal Falls. The course has 9 holes that meander through a residential development and is loaded with dogleg holes and mature trees.
Jimmy Demaret designed the course, and his layout features two nasty par 5s. The best hole on the course is No. 7–a scenic hole that starts from an elevated tee box and plays downhill to a green surrounded by a lake.
Getting there : From I-35, exit FM 1431 and drive west approximately 25 miles to Lago Vista. Turn left on Lohman Ford Rd. and drive 8 miles to the Point Venture guard gate.

This is a fun little "boutique" course.
Point Venture is a fun track to play. It is a short, nine hole course at just slightly over 6K yds from the back tees. Layout has lots of angles/doglegs to test your skill with ball placement off your tee shot. There is a short practice range and a small putting green for warm-up. There is a small clubhouse that includes a pretty good snack bar with outside seating. The golf carts have seen better days but still have plenty of life in them and get you around okay. The greens are well kept but are small in size; this is actually a good fit for the short yardage of the course. Nestled in a residential area very close to an arm of Lake Travis, you can still see some great views even though the lake level is way down from normal. Lots of wildlife out there, and the quiet is almost deafening! The course does not have sand traps nor bunkers, but their absence was not a negative and you hardly notice this. The course is located a good distance out in the Texas Hill Country, so be prepared to drive a while to get there. The green fee is very reasonable; a real steal at a cheap price. So if you do not mind a drive to get there, Point Venture is worth a try for a rather unique golfing experience.
This course is great for a quick round
I play here all the time, best rates you'll find anywhere for 18 holes of golf given you play the 9 holes twice.
Okay starter course if you're taking your kids.
Pros: Easy course. If you are wanting to take your kids and teach them how to play, this is a good course. No sand, no water.
For the area, the course is well laid out. If you live in the Lago Vista area, it is a good local option to get some play in.
Not very many people playing, so pace of play was quick.
Cons: 9 holes. So the few people who are playing can quickly get stacked up as people are making the turn from 9 back to 1.
Cost is pretty high for being 9 holes and for the quality of the course. The greens were sketchy, not well taken care of. Their were points where I was playing off of St. Augustine in the just off the fairway and around the green.
I'm an average golfer. With so many courses in the Austin area, I don't see myself coming back here. I would gladly pay a few dollars more to play a full 18 hole course. This place is good if you live local and have no other options. Otherwise, skip it.
Good little Course
I enjoy this course for the ease of play. You can get out and practice on a real course instead of simply on the range. The staff is friendly enough and the beer is cold. It has a very good practice area including a sand bunker. I have seen it in better condition when we had more rain...but overall a good little course. I want to keep it my secret though.
Challenging short yardage 9 hole course.
I love this course! Short in yardage but a great challenge once on the green. Tricky greens make up for not having to navigate around bunkers or water hazards. Wildlife is great! Never seen so many deer come so close to us but never caused any delay in play. I take my 8 ur old there as well because of their jr tee boxes. Great 9 hole course for me to work on my short game with some holes reachable for the bigger hitters especially from the white tees.
Glad you enjoyed it - see you again soon!
Fun to play
Thuis course is real fun to play, allthough à little easy, but with difficult to read greens. The staff should be taught to be a little friendlier to their guests.
Point Venture is one of mine and my husbands favorite courses...
People here are so nice. The first time we went, we were a little put off because an employee was mowing the first fairway, so we had to wait for him to move on. He continued to mow on the fairway of the next hole and on and on til about the 5th until he either took a break or was finished. Every time after always a pleasure. We had one gent with his daughter show up and "cut line" around my husband and I and when my husband asked if he'd show some etiquette, he didn't feel he'd done anything wrong. We only ask that he "asked" first out of common courtesy. He soon left the course and I hope he returns, no harm no foul just requesting some level of decorum.
Glad you enjoyed it - see you again soon!
Great 9 hole course for a quick round
Nice course, very casual and no crowds. Inexpensive. The couse is in pretty good condition considering the summer we had in central Texas. Greens are good overall. Good beginner course - 9 holes is just about right. I took my son out for his first ever round and although he was chalenged, it was enjoyable for both of us.
Glad you enjoyed it - see you again soon!
