Oak Hollow Golf Course
About
After 50 years, the old 9-hole McKinney Municipal Golf Course shut down to make room for the new 18-hole championship layout now known as Oak Hollow. This new layout, designed by Maury Miller, opened in 1998, featuring rolling terrain that routes around six manmade lakes.
Miller’s design is particularly friendly from the middle tees, playing a fair 6,277 yards with several short par 3s and many average-length par 5s. The number one handicap is No. 15, a 423-yard par 4.
Getting there : Take Hwy. 75 north to Hwy. 380, then head east to Hwy. 5 (McDonald St.). The road veers and leads you 1 mile to the course.

This course is fun to play.
This course is challenging for the average player such as myself. There are a few hard holes. The object on any course is to keep it in the short grass. It is a very forgiving course. But can be tough on several holes if not in the fairway. The greens are in great shape.
Great layout
Always liked this course, good mix of holes. Usually fairly quiet. Friendly staff.
Always in the same shape, more than playable but could use some attention. Greens really hard and don't look that great. But they roll ok at a good speed.
It is what it is.
Staff was very courteous and accommodating. Beyond that I was not impressed. The only hole that is worth praising is #8. A gorgeous par 4 that dog legs left with a decent carry required off the tee over a moderately deep ravine. That said, perhaps I have been spoiled by the terrific conditions that can be found for similar money in the area, Buffalo Creek, Tangle Ridge and Tierra Verde to mention a few. Greens were inconsistant and moderately fast. I know it may seem like a small thing but the actual holes cut in the greens seemed ragged and not pleasing to the eye. There seemed to be roots growing around the edges. This didn't fill me with confidence as I looked over a 3 foot knee-knocker or two.
Not crowded and dashes of difficulty
This course was overall medium difficulty but there were a couple of holes which could trip you up if you are not paying attention. Staff was friendly and food service fast.
Not a bad muni except for the time of year
This course plays much better when the grass isn't dormant. Lot's of bad lies because the ground is so crusty at least you can get a little relief when the bermuda is healthy and green. Staff is ok, didn't notice anything bad, carts are in ok condition, round wasn't too bad for a Sunday being a muni but it can lead to 6 hour rounds given the number of beginners out on the weekends.
Not much trouble on this course
Playing in dead of winter (dead grass) the course played fair/greens ok etc....can't expect perfect conditions in January. Course is pretty easy/not too much trrouble but a few really good holes. Staff is always friendly; great value if you are looking for just hacking around 18- holes of golf; nothing fancy but they don't overcharge. Booked same day tee-time; no problems.
Fairways as to be expected for the season.
Absolutely stupid pin placements, sides of slopes,etc...really slows speed of play when you have to four putt each green then pick up because the ball is further away than when you started!!!! Greens as fast as glass not helping either. Most average golfers don't need extra challenges,we just want to get it the hole fairly!!!
Good course for a good price!
It's not the most challenging course. It's not a a PGA course, but for the price and scenery it's hard to beat. Great for beginners, or some one looking for an easier play. Food and beer prices are friendly as well. Played here many times, and look forward to playing many more rounds there.
A few holes are challenging, #8 has a ravine down the left side and trees blocking the right side.
I play here semi-regularly and feel it's a good booster for your game with little trouble or out of bounds. It seems to play slow sometimes without a marshall to keep up the pace of play. The staff is always friendly and the price/location keeps us coming back. The grass is dormant now but they've made improvements over the summer that shows in greens and fairways. Overall a fun place to play.
OK public course, painfully slow pace of play.
Course is in fairly good shape. Easy layout. Would be a good value except for the painfully slow pace of play. Marshal was not to be seen at any time. I won't play here again.
Bad experience
The course itself is in a bad location. During the first 5 holes you are next to a street, businesses, and a concrete basketball court. The course itself is not in good condition. Even paying a discounted price through golfnow.com, I think I overpaid greatly. The course itself is very compact, our golf cart was hit by a ball, and on 3 other occasions a ball rolled by my foursome while we were in the fairway. This course should be people who are very new to the game of golf. I will not play it again.
Fun!! Number 8 is a SURPRISE
Course is fun to play. Greens in good shape, they were working on tee boxes when I was there so the tee boxes were a bit rough. Fairways in good shape. Overall great value.
Great golf coures to spend time with friends and family
Staff was friendly and accomidating to their guest needs.greens and fairway are well taken care of.nice bigand clean club house with a good varity of beverages and food.
Relaxed and entertaining!
I played the course on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't very full. Great pace of play by other players. The course was in very good condition and the greens were in excellent shape. I will definately play this course again.
Slow
Very slow play, Marshall's did not seem to help move things along.
Easy access and great value.
Love this course for the easy access, not crowded, great value, has a few very challenging holes, but not too difficult for a beginner. My favorite part is it is not overly crowded.....hope this review doesn't ruin that.
Nice public course for average golfers
I've played this course many times over the years and the managers have done a good job of upgrading it with a new clubhouse, improved greens, etc. The course is in good playing condition and shows signs of good maintenance (several tee boxes are being rebuilt/reseeded currently). The course has a fair amount of terrain, especially for Texas, making it challenging and fun, but not too hard.
This course is fairly easy to navigate
This course is on the average . It's good for a leisure round of golf, especially if from around the area.
