Oak Hollow Golf Course
About
After 50 years, the old 9-hole McKinney Municipal Golf Course shut down to make room for the new 18-hole championship layout now known as Oak Hollow. This new layout, designed by Maury Miller, opened in 1998, featuring rolling terrain that routes around six manmade lakes.
Miller’s design is particularly friendly from the middle tees, playing a fair 6,277 yards with several short par 3s and many average-length par 5s. The number one handicap is No. 15, a 423-yard par 4.
Getting there : Take Hwy. 75 north to Hwy. 380, then head east to Hwy. 5 (McDonald St.). The road veers and leads you 1 mile to the course.

Great place to play
Always in great shape and fun to play. Good times.
"Fun Course"
Oak Hollow is a fun course. The layout is wide open and you do not lose many balls. The pace of play is very slow, it seemed we had players on each hole. There were families on the course that looked like beginners, that had the faster players backed up 3 and four deep waiting to hit.
The weather was great, the greens were in good shape but a little slow. Overall a very nice course.
Good course for a leisure round of golf
Fun course that is open enough to go through without losing too many balls. The only negative was some of the fairways had a few dirt spots here and there which was harder to hit from than grass. Overall, a great experience!
Poor Value for the Money
The greens were slow but no bare spots. Did not look like the holes have been changed out in weeks. The edges to the holes were worn down. Lots of hard pan out in the rough. Range needed better turf and the staff wanted me and my playing partner to share a bucket of range balls instead of giving me my own bucket. Really? Are they cheap or what! Better value for the money elsewhere. This course should be priced under $30 including cart.
On a positive note, their was drinking water on the course and the lady driving the drink cart had an awesome personality. Kudos to her!
One of the best municipals in the area
I really enjoy the course, for the money its hard to beat. You have great natural and man made hazards. It plays challenging without feeling impossible. Pace of play is usually very good.
Great deal
Fun course that is in good shape and a heck of a deal. Can't beat the price in the North Dallas area.
Oak Hollow always a pleasant round
With all the rain we had last week, the course was in great condition. There was hardly any mud to deal with. They always have great deals available on golfnow. I would recommend this course to anyone.
This is always a fun course -and pace of play good
Although we played on a rainy day - The course is in excellent condition ,well maintained and the staff was very courteous .The marshall was extremely gracious and offered us an umbrella ,and checked on us throughout the round.
Well maintained !
Great course ! Well maintained course . Green looked good
Oak Hollow was Fun
Oak Hollow Golf Course is an older course in east McKinney. The course was in very good shape. We played with a couple local people and they said that the conditon was much better than usual. The greens were a littel slow, but in good shape despite that people do not seem to fix their ball marks. It looks as though the course is trying to improve by planting more trees and keeping the turf up.
The course in itself is fun to play with some easy holes and some difficult holes mixed in. The most interesting holes is #8, a 421 yard dogleg left that requires you to hit two quality golf shots to hit the green.
Although Oak Hollow Golf Course is a trek from Flower Mound, TX, I would play it again. The main reason for playing Oak Hollow Golf Course was the availablity of a morning tee time on golfnow.com.
Nice
Course is decent, some easy holes, some really tough holes. Good shape. But one thing that must be addressed. I played Saturday morning 9:00 tee time-prime time, & right in front of us was a young boy with his mom, mom was not playing, and the young boy was a true beginner- each shot went about 20 yds & in all directions! Marshall went by numerous times, but nothing changed. Turned a 4 hour round into 5. PLEASE if you find that in future- offer them free tee times in afternoon or twilight, free lessons, SOMETHING! do not let them ruin your Saturday morning tee times!
Below average course conditions, not worth playing.
Thr course was very dry, hard grounds, dead grass. Also you will have to hit over and through power lines on several holes. Carts did not have GPS, also the sprinkles went off on the 1st greeen during play. There are plenty of courses in the North Dallas area, pass on Oak Hollow.
Great little course!!
Great little course with challenging holes and great layout!!! Will be back for more!!!
Not bad...not bad at all...
The main reason I played here was that I needed an early morning tee time as a single on a weekend, something many other courses don't let you book. After looking at the website, I didn't have super high expectations given the scorecard and slope ratings but it was a nice round. Hole #8 is a monster, the course should really try to do more to market it.
Best it has been!
I have played Oak Hollow several times in the past, but after a year or so, I came back and played 3 times in a row. The course is in the best condition I have seen it in. The fairways are actually lush and soft, and the greens are the perfect speed. The cart girl visited us every other hole. Not only did she keep the drinks coming, but she entertained us while the course was backed up. Overall, the pace didn't bother us until golfers with poor etiquette started hitting in to us. However, with a quick call to the clubhouse, the Marshall was promptly sent to handle the situation.
The course is in good condition, but some of the players do not observe golf etiquette!
WHen we played, there were a couple of players ahead of us, who played slow, when they were on the tee box, they talked on the phone, showing each other lessons, having loud music, and appeared to be drunk. They brought in beers and hid them under the seat of the cart. When the on the green, they took their time and also showed each others how to putt. This course is a good course but some of these players will ruin its reputation!
The course has one difficult hole number 8, a real challange.
Very good course for the money. Not a real hard couse but not a easy course. Its in very good shape. Has some challanging holes from the blue tee's. Staff is very friendly, and the snack bar is very good, with excellent prices for their food. Has one real tuff hole number 8, rates up their with any course, a good challange. A very good course for any golfer, great value.
Can get crowded
It is what you would expect from a muni. It was fairly crowded for a Monday. Next time I would try to book an early tee time.
The Course is poorly maintained, poor quality fairways
There was a ten minute delay every hole. Marshall did nothing to speed up play. Bald patches everywhere. The ground was very dry in the fairways despite a pretty wet month of May. Hard to understand. Tee boxes way too high -- unmowed. The fee was $30 -- seems cheap, but for this type play, it became a bad value. We had to quit after 14 because of completely slow play.
Nice Easy Course
Typical muni course, slow play, few bunkers and little water, but nice experience overall and fairly easy layout...overall good value for $27, but not at $45+
