Mesquite Golf Course
About
Mesquite’s muni, located in the Duck Creek floodplain, was built in the 1960s by Leon Howard. Playing only 6,280 yards from the tips and void of bunkers, it makes for a fun day on the links. In fact, water comes into play only seven times–not as much as you might think for a floodplain course that has been ravaged by floods over the years.
The most challenging hole, No. 13, has water. It’s a 418-yard par 4 that doglegs right and features a tee shot over a creek, followed by a long approach to a tough, narrow green.
Other notes: Garrett Gill and George B. Williams redesigned this course.
Getting there : From I-30 east, take Northwest Hwy. for .5 mile to North Hwy. 67 and the course.

Excellent
Mesquite is in the top 3 courses in DFW area. Greens are the best of any muni in Texas!
Pace of play is awesome and Ronnie, Kenny and the entire staff are friendly and keep things rolling.
Staff sucks
This is the 4th time I’ve played at this course and I’ve concluded the staff is the worst here. Every time I’ve played here the staff is super rude and yesterday was the worst. From the second I walked in to the lady supplying food and drinks, everyone has a bad attitude here. Not playing here again. Average course, bad service, to many places to play.
Great condition, cruel greens
This course has some of the fastest greens in the DFW, cruelly quick, make sure you are intentional on literally every putt. It’s super easy to 3 and even 4 putt here. Going from the tips is a solid challenge, they don’t look after the tees at the tips as well as the others however and there is no drinks cart. Marshall’s are great though and they keep a solid pace.
Very friendly staff.
Very friendly staff.
Overall, the golf course is in great shape, fairways were well-maintained, tee boxes and greens are in really good condition. You can’t beat the prices, the senior rates are great. You will not be disappointed at this golf course.
The Good, Bad and the Ugly
The Good:
The greens are in Amazing shape! Problem is they're super fast if you're not used to them. On one hole I putted uphill about 10 feet and it was one turn from going in when the ball stopped and rolled back 10 feet down to where it started. They're in great shape and SUPER fast but really aren't very fair or forgiving especially with several pin placements on the crests of hills....And several times I hit balls in the middle of greens only to watch it roll off to the coller. For a mediocre layout to have such demanding greens is bit of a head scratcher...
The Bad:
The holes are relatively short including the Par 5's (and numerous Par 4's are about 350 yards from the Blue tees---in fact the Blues are about as long as most White tees at other courses---weird)...I don't mind them being short but you frequently have to go with long irons or hybrids off of tees to not hit through the fairways on doglegs and then hit longer irons into greens...course management is a must but there's not much reward for being aggressive when the greens are too fast to be very receptive...
The Ugly:
Frankly the staff is unfriendly and the set-up is weird. For instance, you check in 30, or 45 minutes or an hour early and they say 'We don't give out your cart until 15 minutes before the tee time!" So you either have to schlep your clubs from the parking lot (inconvenient and frankly a pain) or bring a few clubs and balls to putt and go get your cart later--which of course is 15 minutes before your tee time so now you're rushing to load up your cart...AND since they don't allow you to have a cart by yourself (unless you pay an extra $10!) you ALSO have to meet whomever you're paired up with and do that in the 15 minute time frame.
Want to chip instead? The chipping green is 100 yards distant (but your clubs are still in your car due to no cart until 15 minutes prior!). Wanna hit some balls on the range--same deal! Ugh...AND then just for fun you can't bring your own cooler on a 100 degree day so they give you one--with minimal ice, and there was exactly ZERO cart girl service...so it's all just inconvenient and a PAIN to deal with...
Oh and BEST part? The 'Marshall's drive around and watch you--constantly! We saw two different ones at least 6 times in 18 holes and at least twice they stopped, watched us play, without a word (and barely a wave) and just sat there watching...and watching...and watching...It's super annoying...we played in less than 4 hours (the pace they 'require') but those wannabe yahoo cart jockeys may as well have tin stars to go with their bushy mustaches and mirrored shades...maybe it's an outreach program for Ex-Cops with PTSD, but it's just weird and frankly not necessary...and if you think they're not taking their job overly seriously, there's a 'marshalls Wanted' sign in the bathroom with a picture of some desperado...it's ridiculous...
Oh yeah, and the handicapped stall was stuffed with toilet paper to overflowing and was that way when I arrived at still there 5 1/2 hours later when I left...disgusting...
Take your money elsewhere...
Wow
Greens were 12.0 fast, but ran true and were consistent. Course was absolutely beautiful and we played it for just 20 bucks each I couldn’t believe it
Very nice course
Parts of it were very challenging, other parts were laid back and leisurely. Some of the greens are unforgiving and fast. Overall, I would go back and play there again!
Fun course
Great shape. Great layout. Little slow. But that's what weekend booth is sometimes.
Much better than it used to be!!
The redo of this course is really good. Greens were fast and in great condition. We played in 4 hours as a foursome. Staff could have been a bit friendlier but it's all good. Go play it. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Interesting golf holes with some forced carries along the way.
Fairways are generous
The bermuda rough can be a little tricky to hit out of
Great course great greens
Love this little course! Really challenging from the tips. Could use more water spots or a drinks cart but other than that it’s great! Best greens around for the price.
