Mesquite Golf Course
About
Mesquite’s muni, located in the Duck Creek floodplain, was built in the 1960s by Leon Howard. Playing only 6,280 yards from the tips and void of bunkers, it makes for a fun day on the links. In fact, water comes into play only seven times–not as much as you might think for a floodplain course that has been ravaged by floods over the years.
The most challenging hole, No. 13, has water. It’s a 418-yard par 4 that doglegs right and features a tee shot over a creek, followed by a long approach to a tough, narrow green.
Other notes: Garrett Gill and George B. Williams redesigned this course.
Getting there : From I-30 east, take Northwest Hwy. for .5 mile to North Hwy. 67 and the course.

Golf
I enjoy using the GN app when reserving tee times. Convenient and economically friendly. Allows you to play at places for a good price. My only issue Is the cancellation or change reservations process or lack of options. Like when it’s raining, I can’t get a refund promptly or change tee time through the golf course. It has to be done through GN app. Since golf courses don’t close just because it’s raining, GN won’t refund my money. There’s got to be a better way when there’s things happen. I set my tee time days before and there was no sign of rain but in Texas that changes daily. Please figure something out. I played in the rain btw.
Round of golf
Course is getting in better shape. Rained a ton this week so fairways still wet.
Golf Marshalls
This is a nice course and I have played here many times, but I have to say the Marshalls
at the course make your round very stressful. It is the only course I have ever been to that physically checks your cooler to make sure you are not bringing in alcohol. In addition, the Marshalls ride your game all day and it seems they want you to play 9 holes at about a 11/2 to 1:45 pace. We had no one behind us, and were playing at about a 2 hour pace with a foursome, and they kept watching every hole and then came to tell us to pick up the pace at least 4 times.
It really ruins your concentration, and makes for a very unenjoyable round. I won't be going back, as there are too many other courses in our area that treat their customers with dignity.
Greens were punched and sanded, no heads up
Course was overall in good shape other than the greens. Fairways and teebox were healthy and covered in grass. We were not given a heads up the greens had recently been punched and sanded. Not a very welcome surprise, it made putting extremely difficult with the ball bouncing around. Also the course requires you to share a cart with randoms, or they charge you $10 to ride solo. That irks me seeing as it was a Monday midday and it was extremely slow.
Treated greens
Great place to hit balls. Some of the tees need treating. The freeze has damaged parts of the tees & fairways as for the same as for other local courses.
Finally, the greens have been fertilized / sanded with pierce injection.
Mesquite Closed 4/30/2021
Following up on your policy to ensure refund to my account. Mesquite course closed approx 10:30AM on Friday 4/30/2021 prior to our scheduled tee time due to wet course conditions. The pro shop indicated they would contact Golf Now. Please provide confirmation on cost credited to account. Thanks, Jim
Can You Finish A Round Here in 4 Hours?
Worst experience I ever had on any golf course. Marshall at the tee told us we were 10 minutes behind as we made the turn. No big deal. We quickly finish the 10th. Just as we get off the green, the on course “Marshall” told us that we were now 20 minutes behind. How in a span of 12 minutes can someone go from 10 to 20 minutes? This “Marshall” also had told someone in our group to go play a nearby 9-Hole Course instead due to us “falling behind” and continues to follow behind us until we just quit on 14. We found out the group was teeing off on 16 and there was no one ahead of them. How rude. Clearly if you can’t keep a 4 hour pace here you and your money is not welcome and you’re better off going to a 9 hole course. Thank god I don’t live in the area, because I’d be upset if my tax dollars went to paying a city run facility with terrible customer service. We will not be back again.
I enjoy playing here
Tee time was 7:40. It was 36 degrees and the steam was bellowing off of the ponds. The dew on the fairways glistened as the sun peaked off of the horizon. After a few holes you could feel the sun warming you up, the fog was gone and the birds were chirping. The par 3’s are long and challenge you to make an accurate iron shot. The doglegs on the par 5’s are really cool too. If you can get around the corner enough to clear the big trees lining the fairway. The greens were fast and reading around the cups are a bit of a challenge at times. A 2 footer isn’t always a gimme. I’ll come back in a few weeks and try again.
Pleasantly Surprised
Honestly, my fiancée and I were trying to sneak in a round on a Sunday afternoon, which isn't always the easiest thing to do in DFW. After being unable to find ANYTHING before 5 p.m., a spot for 2 opened up at Mesquite around 2 o'clock, so we pulled the trigger. Not knowing anything about the course, my expectations for a quick round and actually liking the course were extremely low. But I can honestly say I was more than pleasantly surprised. Not being a member anywhere, I play a lot of public courses in the DFW area, so I've seen my fair share of poor greens. The greens at Mesquite were in great shape and the layout was a lot of fun. Paired with a couple older gentlemen, I decided to play the gold tees with them, which shortened the course and made it a bit easier. Will definitely go back to play the black tees at some point. Also, the clubhouse and cart return staff were incredibly friendly!
Friendly service
Friendly service and great value. A few areas closed off due to mud or covid restrictions.
First time golfer here at Mesquite
T boxes, fairways and greens were the best I have played this year. I was charged 10 dollars to ride in my own club car and then got paired with another golfer anyways. Never got my money back.
Good friendly staff and the folks I golfed with were Marshall’s there so they had good tips and tricks as we navigated through. I had a blast.
Some of the best greens in DFW
For the price it’s tough to beat these greens! They roll true and are super fast, have to be careful cause you can easily 3 and 4 putt. Tough to get the ball to stop sometimes though. Great course, challenging especially from the tips.
