Mesquite Golf Course
About
Mesquite’s muni, located in the Duck Creek floodplain, was built in the 1960s by Leon Howard. Playing only 6,280 yards from the tips and void of bunkers, it makes for a fun day on the links. In fact, water comes into play only seven times–not as much as you might think for a floodplain course that has been ravaged by floods over the years.
The most challenging hole, No. 13, has water. It’s a 418-yard par 4 that doglegs right and features a tee shot over a creek, followed by a long approach to a tough, narrow green.
Other notes: Garrett Gill and George B. Williams redesigned this course.
Getting there : From I-30 east, take Northwest Hwy. for .5 mile to North Hwy. 67 and the course.

Never a Disappointment
If you have never played this course, do it. If you haven't played Mesquite in a while, get back out there. Greens are in fantastic shape. Very few thin lies in the fair ways. Tee boxes level and maintained. Water in every cooler and plenty of coolers! What's not to like?! Just stay to the right side of the fairway for your second shot on the par 5 seventh. This course is not too long; just perfect for us duffers.
Consistently Consistent
The office staff and marshalls are always in a good mood. Par 5 number was a par 3, due to turf repairs. Greens, bunkers, fairways, and tee boxes in good shape. Rule of thumb on this course: if you don't definitely see a break on the greens, there isn't one. Stay down the right side of fairway for your second shot on par 5 number 7, as everything slopes left. Stay left for your drive on par 5 number 11. You'll like this course.
It's Nice To Dance
Since the renovation of the Mesquite course, I have enjoyed every round there, even if I didn't play well. There are some drainage issues, but nothing like it used to NOT drain at all. Greens were is excellent shape: smooth and held a good approach shot. The greens are generous in size with a lot of movement. I find them hard to read. Fairway grass is a little thin, but that is expected for this time of year. Tee boxes were in pretty good shape. Bunkers (I stayed out of them for a change) looked good.
Even with a full course, the pace of play wasn't bad at all - 3.5 hours for 18 holes. On the par five, 17th hole, best to stay as far right on your second shot, as the fair way slopes right to left. Any shot that lands in the middle of the fair way will end up in a bad place to the left. This is the only hole on the course that I wish had been renovated differently. All in all, this is one of my favorite courses in the DFW area.
Mesquite Golf Club
This course is great for beginners and those looking to work on your game. At 6885 yards from the back tees you will not need to use driver on every hole. This muni makes up for any distance issues with it fast and undulating greens. Overall the course is in good shape from tee to green.
Good time
Course in very nice shape. Fun layout desk staff in club house not very friendly everyone else and everything else was a very good experience
Mesquite golf club
The greens were aerated a few weeks ago and they were just a little bit bumpy. Staff very friendly. Pace of play was great. A few tight driving holes offer the biggest challenge. Temporary green on #4. Would recommend.
Water Me Please!!!
I really like this course. The reason for the average rating is due to the need for the course to be watered. Big cracks in the fairway side and green side mounding. And, the Golf Now web site didn't mention the greens being aerated. I got a great deal on the price. Had to play the back nine twice, but played from different tees. So, used the round as a really fun practice round. Finally, the water in the water hazard left of the green on #15 is nasty. Not sure if its because of a treatment for mosquitoes or something else. In the next few weeks, this course will be back up to par or better.
Local favorite
Mesquite is great since the renovation. The pace of play is always great. Usually 3 to 4 hours. The twilight rate to get in nine is great also. The new greens are quite challenging and make it my preferred course now.
Tricky green reads
I have noticed since the re-design of the greens, that anyone's ability to correctly read the greens takes more than an average golfers skillset. Totally enjoyable round of golf. Nice blend of risk vs reward and knowing when playing safe is the best decision to make.
My home course doesn't feel like home any more.
I live 3 miles from this course, it was the first I ever played, since it's re- opened certain of the staff has gotten crabby and short with others on the course around me, and even to me a few times, there are still a couple of nice gentlemen, who marshall the course. On my last visit, I booked a single tee time with a cart, for the normal set fee, of $33, at the clubhouse I was told I would have to pay $45 if I wanted a cart because my reservation did not include it. I've booked them through Golfnow and their own site many times and have never been told this, even with 1-4 players sharing carts, I understand splitting cart fees it even states it on my reservation, but it was my fault for not bringing it with me.
The course is in good shape for the most part. Food is decent, I'm just put off about the Marshall snapping at people the last 3 times I've played, even to elderly gentleman in front of me for pulling 2 feet past the staging area before the 1st tee. They were blocking my cart a little, I didn't mind, all they had to do is reverse. No big deal. Overall I have a sentimental attachment to this course, but thats about it. I'll keep playing here if I'm tight on time because it's close to home. But I wouldn't recommend driving more than 15-20 min. To play here.
Mesquite is an Walk in the Park
I have been reading for some time that Mesquite had remodeled the course a couple of years ago. I just never got around to playing before and now it perked my curiosity. The course is right off the freeway, but you would never know it while playing. The course is a good course for any level golfer with a few interesting holes. It has been very wet this year in North Texas so the course was pretty wet on this day. I will probably go back since one of my friends really enjoyed the course. Hopefully, it will be dry, firm, and fast to show the true colors of the remodeled course.
Great course for the money
Greens in great shape! Friendly staff, and moderately challenging
Fast Greens
Greens were fast and tough. Some had multiple ridges to overcome. Very challenging. Layout was nice. Will try again in the late spring to see if brightens up. Grass was very dry and looked dead. Bunkers are excellent shape!!!
Good Value, Fast Greens
Course was in very good shape given the time of year. Pace decent for a warm Sunday afternoon. Greens were incredibly fast. Worth the effort for a decent change of pace, especially for the price.
It was a pleasure ...
I've been wanting to play this course for a while now. And I'm glad I did even on a windy day. I will visit again soon. You can tell that the challenges will go up once that foliage grows back in after winter. It's a nice little track and rewards the shot maker. The renovation is nice too.
Mesquite 12/6
Good course and facility. Like the layout. Several holes are challenging the others are average and good. Greens were quick.
Good local course
Nice course to play, but since since grass color change and so many leaves it is hard to see the balls. Over booked for the day, but guess expected the day before Thanksgiving. Pace of play was very slow since most paired up and playing 4-5 on each team. Staff is very pleasant to deal with.
Nice course
Nice course to play. Will play again soon. Great Sunday pin placements on a Tuesday.
Mesquite
Decent course overall. The greens and fairways are in good shape but nothing special. The greens are very undulating and the pins were in unfair positions on several greens.
