Eighteen Hole at Shary Municipal Golf Course

About
Originally a short, 9-hole course with open fairways and slow, average-sized greens, Shary has opened a new 18-hole course in recent years.
The big course is challenging because the fairways are narrow and lined by out-of-bounds. Water hazards impact several holes as well. Play it safe off the tee with a 3-wood or long iron to avoid big numbers.
The signature hole for the small course is No. 4, a 355-yard par 4 that features an approach shot over water to the green.
Getting there : From 83 west, exit Brian Rd. and drive north. When you come to FM 495, turn left and drive to Mayberry, then turn left again. The course is on the right side.
Tee | Par | Length | Rating | Slope |
---|---|---|---|---|
Blue | 71 | 6025 yards | 69.9 | 118 |
White | 71 | 5672 yards | 68.2 | 115 |
Red (W) | 71 | 4893 yards | 68.7 | 117 |

Horrific greens
Thank goodness for Golf Now. I’d hate to pay full price for terrible greens. Very very fast and poor conditions.
Poor condition
This could be a very enjoyable course however the condition of the fairways and greens makes the experience just the opposite. The course conditions lack consistency. Areas of some Fairways lack any grass. Even some of the greens lack grass. The cart we used was low on power after only nine holes..
Meh
Terrible course conditions. Golfers switching and playing different holes; Skipping and hopping holes. Kids from the school all over the place. Bad customer service. Do not recommend playing here! 👍🏾
Conditions
This is a fun course to play. The lay out is great. With some TLC it would be fantastic. Always look forward to playing here, but could be that much better with grass on greens and fairways.
Shary
Enjoy playing at Shary even though we need to drive through some road construction to get there. They have some very challenging holes even though it’s a par 71 course. Will keep playing till can get over #10 water😊
Course condition
Hire a greenskeeper !!!
A Greenskeeper is a specialized gardener that is in charge of maintaining landscaping on golf courses.
Course Condition
Unfortunately the condition of the fairways and greens is going from fair to poor. It is sad to see the course deteriorate from month to month.
Course conditions
Greens were good but pretty fast
Fairways a little bare in places but decent. Enjoyed the day.
VOLCANOES
When staff change hole locations on the greens they most often fail to tamp down the turf immediately around the hole creating a volcano effect which causes a well directed putt to veer left or right away from the hole. There is a special tool available to correct this problem .
Golf
Great course to play. Must say the greens seem to be over watered because they seen to be dieing
Shary
Sad to say the greens are getting pretty bad. Looks like they have been over watered.
