El Dorado at Quail Valley Golf Course
About
Developers eventually had their way with this cow pasture on the fringe of Houston. Loaded with native pecans and oaks and supplemented with even more transplanted trees, the terrain is ideal for golf, with two creeks and five natural lakes on the property. In fact, it's good enough to host the PGA Tour's Houston Open in 1973 and 1974.
The traditional El Dorado Course plays to a par 70 and features five par 3s that go 190-yards-plus from the tips. Jay Riviere designed the back nine.
Jeff Blume managed the redesign and complete renovation of the El Dorado Course in 2009.

Pace of play
Course was great except for wild pack of ladies with 5 golf carts and large groups all over course. Took almost 5 hours in dead heat.
Great Course with one Drawback
The biggest drawback to the course was the lack of watering stations. There is only one spot on the course where you can fill up on water and that is at the turn. This is not adequate to insure that golfers can stay hydrated during hot weather thereby increasing the chance that golfers could be exposed to heat exhaustion and potentially heat stroke.
Awesome course
Probably the best conditions I have seen on a public course. Pace of play was right at 4 hours which is great. Every hole on the El Dorado course looks like you are playing on a professional course that PGA would play on.
Great value, and my new favorite public course
I found this course through a referral a couple months ago. I think I have played it over 5 times by now. Usually am able to find a good deal (value) mid-week or late afternoon on the weekend. Course is really well maintained for a public course, nice big fairways and greens in good shape. Carts are comfy and have GPS, though they do buzz a bunch if you deviate off course even a little bit. Course could use more water stations but I definitely enjoy playing here often now and I drive in from Pearland.
Good track for the money
Good layout and a good challenge. Get more grass on the tee boxes.
Chris
A hidden gem in Houston. Eldorado course is not that difficult and yet very challenging. The layout of the golf course is beautiful.
Challenging golf course
The golf course is in very good condition, plenty of hazard and challenging. The greens are a bit slower than normal probably because of the hot weather
Nice course, good layout
Challenging course, in great condition. Food in restaurant is very good.
Sanded Greens terrible
Fairways were in excellent shape.
Greens were the worst even. Newly punched and sanded. Were uneven and impossible to put.
Recommend waiting a week till course is in better shape.
Week day
I was forewarned…greens were sanded and punched. That said, I did sink an 80 footer. Fairways were surprisingly not conducive to good roll outs. I had to move up to the red tees by the 5th hole. Layout is a problem on the 17th, 15th,, 6th and 5th with no safe ways to get around. Marshall’s are great.
Exceptional Muni
Course is in great condition, greens were fast and true. Plenty of challenging carries over water. The 2-10 foot alligators right off the green were a little intimidating. Very enjoyable round. Will be back.
