Golfer Reviews
First time won't be the last time... But...
First time playing the La Quinta course on 8/7 and it's a great looking course with a lot of potential as it matures. For the price and location, I'd be happy to return..there is a but...
Pros:
1. Lots of water and sand in well thought out places to test all levels of player
2. Great value for money - I didn't feel like my wallet had been abused at all
3. Brand new buggies with GPS, yardage and score tracking functionality - absolutely first class (almost perfect)
4. Mostly friendly staff - the guys in the pro shop and working the buggies were super helpful.
Cons:
1. Course is awaiting official sign off of yardage so hasn't got printed scorecards, only a sheet of paper with current yardages. No big deal as the official ones will be done in the coming weeks and the buggy has a cool scorecard feature
2. Greens were firm and a little slow - need more watering to make them more receptive.
3. This is the main BUT...there was some very unnecessary Game Starter rudeness.
When our group checked in with the starter on the first tee, there was ZERO mention of needing to stick to cart paths - ZERO/NOTHING SAID AT ALL to any of our group. Nor was this mentioned when checking in with the pro shop.
After teeing off and heading down the cart path to play our second shots, there was no one ahead of us so we made an assumption it may be 90 degrees rule with it being a new course. So we followed the path, turned 90 degrees and drove to our balls to hit our approach shots...only to look back and to see the starter driving towards us like a psychopath waving arms and calling us over.
He then began to rant and rage at us for not following rules that hadn't been communicated to us that could have easily been printed on the paper scorecard or put signs on the first tee to raise awareness. He then threatened that this was our only warning and if we moved off the cart path again we'd be removed from the course.
This course had just re-opened to the public that day so more effort should be made to ensure all players know this rule.
The starter didn't ruin the day but definitely didn't make a great first impression and should get some guidance on more effective communication skills.
We will likely come back, and hope this feedback is appreciated and used to better communication with other future players.
Greens in terrible shape
I played this course many times and I’ve never seen the greens in this bad of shape. Until something changes, I will not be playing it again.
Bad shape
There was not a single green on the course that was not burned or had damaged grass. Several greens youncould not putting through the damage was horrible.
Greens and clubhouse under repair
The clubhouse has been closed for several weeks now due to flood, the starter is outside in a tent. The greens are in horrible shape right now, little grass, and lots of dirt. Worse I've ever seen at this house. The pace of play was great the 1st nine. Than we caught up to a group of 5 very slow player, no marshall to be seen to speed them up. I don't agree with letting groups that large if they are slow.
Course is overall in good shape. The greens need work, and the players need to learn how to repair their ball marks on the greens. Overall it’s a nice place to play and I plan on playing again.
Putting green
This course is fun to play but putting green has been bad condition. Hopefully it get better soon.
Avoid this course
Greens are in terrible condition and repairs are needed all over the place. Pace was very slow and there was no marshal. Will not come back!!!
La quinta Greens are not in good shape
The course overall conditions is great. The rough and fairways are solid, same with the bunkers. However, the greens have little-to-no grass making it incredibly difficult to make putts at almost any length.
Not worth the rates
Quail valley La Quinta is definitely not worth the asking price. Staff was friendly. Pro shop still closed from Hurricane damage in July while other courses that had direct hits from said hurricane are completely open. Leads one to believe the owner/operators are just not spending the money to fix the clubhouse. Course tees and fairways are fair enough but the greens are atrocious. Bald muddy spots on all but maybe 2 greens. Pace of play was very bad. Would not recommend to spend any money here until this course is better maintained.
I expected better.
The greens are in horrible condition dirt patches everywhere. I know the course is planning to remodel the course, but the price should reflect the condition. Pace of play was also terrible. One group was holding up the whole course. Marshall should have made them let people play through.
Terrible Condition
I have played this course many times of the past three years. It seems to get worse with time. It could be a decent course for beginners if it wasn’t so expensive. It’s wide open for the most part, leaving the opportunity to find your ball but there is just no reason they should charge over $40. The second to worst part after the price is the greens. Horrible condition and have been for over two years. The staff is rude. I’ve witness them start altercations with people over the smallest inconvenience to their voluntary positions. The El Dorado course is nice but could use some care. Sharptown literally charges half the price with a good layout.
Course to be shut down
Apparently they will be redoing it starting mid December. They e let the greens go and they were barely playable.
