El Dorado at Quail Valley Golf Course
About
Developers eventually had their way with this cow pasture on the fringe of Houston. Loaded with native pecans and oaks and supplemented with even more transplanted trees, the terrain is ideal for golf, with two creeks and five natural lakes on the property. In fact, it's good enough to host the PGA Tour's Houston Open in 1973 and 1974.
The traditional El Dorado Course plays to a par 70 and features five par 3s that go 190-yards-plus from the tips. Jay Riviere designed the back nine.
Jeff Blume managed the redesign and complete renovation of the El Dorado Course in 2009.

Love this course But...
Great course. Love the layout. Pretty good condition for winter except the bunkers they were muddy and wet from the rain. Would definitely recommend this course.
Thank you. Hope you make it back again.
Excellent Course
Great course. Challenging but fair. Well worth the money.
Thank you very much... see you next time!
Don't go here!!!
I can't believe they allow groups of 5 to play this course, but that's not all, we were behind 5 groups of 5 on a Tuesday when we thought we would get in a decent round in under 4 hours!!! And, when asking the Marshal why they allow this, his excuse was that they have been doing this for 35 years! In 35 years, you can't figure out how to make rounds for others pleasant?! I can help, break these groups up in groups of 4, or at least space out their tee times so others can enjoy this course. It's a shame because I like this course, but won't be back. There are plenty of other courses around Houston where you can get in a round in under the time it takes to dry paint!
Sounds like you like the course and many other groups do too as you found out. We're a great value, so we hope you make it back. Indeed we have allowed 5somes since becoming a public golf club, but our player assistants do their best to keep play moving when possible or offering up options to guests in a hurry. El do is such a great course it's too bad anyone would be in a rush around the track.
Great Golf Course
El Dorado, what can I say, either you love it, when you're doing well, or you hate it, when you're not doing well. No fault of the GC itself, it's a challenging and great GC. Both fairways and greens were in good to very good shape. Will definitely play again.
Solid! Many thanks!
Long course El Dorado
Due to recent rains, fairways were soft, greens were slow, rough was high enough to not find a ball. I’m 68 and play the white tees. On #17, after too many tee shots into the drink on previous rounds, I moved up to the red tee. The prevailing SE wind funnels in just beyond tee, where divers can be seen collecting doomed drives. My shot landed dry near the fairway trap (why a trap on the right side? Not tough enough?) That fade left me with an unpalatable approach over more water, over 150 yards., Wise again, I put my range ball into the water just shy of safety. Next time instead of a fairway metal I’ll try to hammer my 7 metal. Or better yet, try a riskier tee shot closer to the water on the left. That all said, I like the challenges on this course and that the Marshalls are active and ice is available at the 10th.
Thank you for being a regular out here, and we all appreciate you playing the appropriate tees. This course and golf in general is tough no matter where we play. See you next time!
Great Golf Course
Greens are great, fairways are great. Manage the GC or it will eat your lunch, and balls. Was fun, but too many OBs. no fault of the GC, just me. :-(
Thank you very much! I'm sure you will manage your way around the course better the next time.
Oldie but Goodie
The holes with water can make your knees knock a bit, so you need to get the distances right and hit crisp shots. I was wondering if something wrong with gps on #10.
There were invasive grasses and weeds accumulating on some holes like St. Augustine and nutsedge. M.S.M.A. is need and Sedgehammer.
For what I paid, it was great value golfing.
Thank you Superdave, and we're thrilled you thought it was a great value. We always chasing down those invasive grasses on the edges, so we hope to have you back again.
Great
Friendly staff difficult course but enjoyable long par 3s
Thank you for visiting us from Victoria! Hope you swing by again.
Thank you for the positive review and really appreciate you coming back in this heat!
Thank you for playing Quail Valley again and thrilled you love the value.
Solid... hope to have you back.
Cloudy Day plus rain
This is a nice course with quite a few challenges. Water and plenty of bunkers will challenge you game. Started at 12:40 and supposedly 2 groups of regulars started at 11. Caught them by hole six and thought they would let me play through since no one was in front of them. Nope. skipped three holes to play around them. Could of played all 18 before rain if I could of got through them.
Thank you for coming over from Deer Park. It's unfortunate that some golfers can be inconsiderate if they are playing slow. We do what we can to help everyone enjoy a day out. Thank you, and we hope you visit again.
too slow
7 minute interval between tee times is way to short. course was backed up and we waited with another foursome on almost every tee.
We apologize for the slow play and appreciate the feedback. Saturdays are stacked, and we all do our best to keep it moving in the hot weather. Hope you make it back again.
Solid. Thank you.
Course in good shape
Fairways and greens were in very good condition. Looks like they are watering. Speeds on the greens were slightly different, but overall very good.
Appreciate the compliments, Chuck. Hope to have you back again.
Thank you for the positive review. All the rain this year has been reeking havoc on our bunkers. We're on it!
