El Dorado at Quail Valley Golf Course
About
Developers eventually had their way with this cow pasture on the fringe of Houston. Loaded with native pecans and oaks and supplemented with even more transplanted trees, the terrain is ideal for golf, with two creeks and five natural lakes on the property. In fact, it's good enough to host the PGA Tour's Houston Open in 1973 and 1974.
The traditional El Dorado Course plays to a par 70 and features five par 3s that go 190-yards-plus from the tips. Jay Riviere designed the back nine.
Jeff Blume managed the redesign and complete renovation of the El Dorado Course in 2009.

Greens
Greens missing grass grass not cut and slow
Letting things go not taking care of since laquinta has been remodeled. Before it was in excellent condition
Greens are terrible
The staff is not very friendly. This course is way over priced for the condition of the course and greens especially. $95 to play
Needs upkeep
Quail Valley El Dorado is a nice track. The greens on no 1, 2, 3, and some others are in bad shape. Merely putting paint on the greens is not good. Ball speeds are very erratic and you can’t get a feel for the greens easily.
Lots of areas on the fairways need to be watered; barely any grass there and one has a difficult time hitting of such hard pan dusty lies.
Not worth $60. If it wasn’t close to me I would think twice. Quail Valley needs to open their wallets and spend money on this great track. Stop being cheap.
Greens
Greens need a little work, it’s probably because everyone is playing the same course while the LaQuinta course is under repair.
This Use To Be A Good Course
Greens were in bad shape. Some kids route their bikes over several greens and Greens were bumping on more than a few holes. I am not saying it’s a bad course. It’s just not worth the money.
Greens Conditions
The course layout is good, it’s definitely challenging. While I know we’re undergoing winter conditions the conditions of a lot of greens is very bad, very soft and risking damage to the greens. The fairways and tee boxes are in very good shape. But some of the greens conditions had me worried because just walking on them left my shoes soles printed on them so I was walking very carefully to not damage the course, however, a lot pf people didn’t seem to care the same as me.
Greens hurting
La Quinta is closed till May so El Dorado is showing signs of being overplayed in the greens. Front 9 greens were wet and had very little grass on them, making it pretty difficult to putt. But this challenging course is fun to play, just a bit overpriced for what you’re getting right now.
La Quinta course
After serious rain, the course dried out well enough to play even though the bunkers were small lakes. the greens were in very good shape.
Hidden gem
This place is awesome. I love it and it’s my favorite course to play. Easy to walk. Lots of benches, water, and restrooms. Layout is fantastic. Greens are usually really good. Although lately the amount of pitch marks have been ridiculous. People need to repair their pitch marks. There’s a few fairways that have a dirt spot like a fungus or something killed the grass in a small part of the fair way. But that’s really my only complaint. I absolutely love this course.
Cart not Included
I booked a reservation on Golf Now with a cart included on hot deal. When I arrived they charged me 40.00 for a cart when I showed them it had cart included on the app. Also they have a habit of forcing you to play in others groups. We had a twosome but they forced us to pair up with another twosome eventhough the course wasn't busy. It took us longer to play. Just not a good experience this time around. Wouldn't recommend it.
Good course bad service
Like the course. Got a good deal on Golf Now, BUT the guy at the front desk tried to charge me for a cart! I showed the receipt to him. He did that to another guy while I was checking in. Bring the receipt! Staff was terrible
Quail Valley- El Dorado- Best Public course in Fort Bend County
You can always count on El Dorado to be in good shape. It’s a challenging course no doubt. The other 18- La Quinta is being renovated and I can’t wait to play it. As well, their restaurant looks on track to be open by summer 2026. I highly recommend this course especially to locals.
