El Dorado at Quail Valley Golf Course
About
Developers eventually had their way with this cow pasture on the fringe of Houston. Loaded with native pecans and oaks and supplemented with even more transplanted trees, the terrain is ideal for golf, with two creeks and five natural lakes on the property. In fact, it's good enough to host the PGA Tour's Houston Open in 1973 and 1974.
The traditional El Dorado Course plays to a par 70 and features five par 3s that go 190-yards-plus from the tips. Jay Riviere designed the back nine.
Jeff Blume managed the redesign and complete renovation of the El Dorado Course in 2009.

Hidden gem
This place is awesome. I love it and it’s my favorite course to play. Easy to walk. Lots of benches, water, and restrooms. Layout is fantastic. Greens are usually really good. Although lately the amount of pitch marks have been ridiculous. People need to repair their pitch marks. There’s a few fairways that have a dirt spot like a fungus or something killed the grass in a small part of the fair way. But that’s really my only complaint. I absolutely love this course.
Cart not Included
I booked a reservation on Golf Now with a cart included on hot deal. When I arrived they charged me 40.00 for a cart when I showed them it had cart included on the app. Also they have a habit of forcing you to play in others groups. We had a twosome but they forced us to pair up with another twosome eventhough the course wasn't busy. It took us longer to play. Just not a good experience this time around. Wouldn't recommend it.
Good course bad service
Like the course. Got a good deal on Golf Now, BUT the guy at the front desk tried to charge me for a cart! I showed the receipt to him. He did that to another guy while I was checking in. Bring the receipt! Staff was terrible
Quail Valley- El Dorado- Best Public course in Fort Bend County
You can always count on El Dorado to be in good shape. It’s a challenging course no doubt. The other 18- La Quinta is being renovated and I can’t wait to play it. As well, their restaurant looks on track to be open by summer 2026. I highly recommend this course especially to locals.
This course is nice
The course offer it all. The layout is fun and calls for course management.
Mo city’s best
Course has turned around huge and still improving! They are redoing la Quinta. El Dorado is an amazing shape right now.
The course
The course is in great shape would definitely recommend playing this course
DO NOT PLAY HERE!
Stopped in for a work outing and called ahead to reserve a tee time along with three rental sets. Upon arrival, we discovered there was barely one rental set available. When I asked for a driver, the head pro, Terry Strickland, seemed visibly agitated by the request.
It turned out there was only one full rental set available, and while Terry did offer a small discount on that set, his attitude made the interaction unpleasant. When I asked if they could offer a discount on our rounds to make up for the issue, that request was denied.
Overall, this was a disappointing experience, and unfortunately, I would not recommend this course. The lack of preparation and poor customer service—especially from the head pro—made this the most unpleasant experience I’ve ever had at a golf club.
I would suggest thy evaluate the head pros ability to deal with guests.
Best Bargain In Houston Area!
Quail Valley- El Dorado is in excellent condition. We played after a recent rainstorm so the bunkers were unplayable but normally they are fairly well maintained. The staff is always courteous. Driving range is okay (mats only). Nice practice green and chipping area with bunker. Overall one of the best values in the Houston area.
Pace of play
Conditions were great. Pace of play was very slow because of the two players in front of us ignoring the rules and courtesy. Just made the best of it with their clown show.
Good course.
Great course quality compared to similar price ranges in the area. New favorite course as compared to cinco and greatwood
Really good
This place is truly a gem. Great layout, rewards good play, punishes loose swings. Very well conditioned. It's a Muni, but they really keep it up. Brand new clubhouse and restaurant. When you add in they really have kept the prices fair, just a great experience overall
Fivesome slow the round to more than 5 h
A fivesome was playing in front of us , they did not even bother letting us play through, marshall never showed up when needed
Why are fivesomes allowed, this us luck of respect to others time
