La Quinta at Quail Valley Golf Course
About
La Quinta Course, one of the two regulation courses at Quail Valley, is a typical regulation course, slightly more difficult than El Dorado because of the water in play on 10 holes.

Bad conditions
I know Houston has been getting a lot of rain, but they have given up on parts of the course. There is algae growing in the bunkers and they have no business being open if the course is that wet and charging full price. Other course in Houston have received just as much rain and are in much better shape.
This course will improve your game if played regularly. as it is challenging. Good maintenance on the greens and fareways.
There were 3 fivesomes playing in the heart of a Sunday morning backing up the entire course. These guys were not that old and they were parked carts on the short grass of the greens. They had closest to the pin markers, adding there scored up on the side of the greens and not letting any one play through. This is the third and last time I will ever play there because the pace of play is awful each time I’ve played it. I spoke to a Marshal who was very nice but advised he could not let golfers play through this group because they are a regular skins game Sunday morning group that the pro shop allows to play. And the cart path is absolutely horrible! Worst I’ve ever seen... I left the course on hole 7. I play golf all over the Houston area and this is the worst pace of play course hands down. The locals ruin would could be a decent golf experience.
Wow
The course was in wonderful shape!
Definitely going back!
under staffed
I really like the course and have played there several times, but every time I check in, there is only one person at the counter and can take up to 15 minutes just to check in. They need more staff, and get ones with better attitudes.
Fun course!
It’s a nice course with great fairways and greens. It had rained heavy before I went and there was quite a bit of standing water but it wasn’t too bad. Didn’t have any problems with other groups place of play and saw the Marshall frequently.
Impressed
After reading some reviews I expected much worse. From what I’m used to, the greens were great! Shot an 84! I’ll be back!
Wouldn’t mind a smoother cart path though
Fun Round
We played on Mother's Day so the course was fairly open. We ran into a group in front of us around hole 8 but they either picked up the pace big time or left because we didn't see them on the back nine. The greens were quite slow and a bit patchy in places but for the money it wasn't too bad. The fairways are always very bumpy too. I think it's done on purpose to give uneven lies but drive slowly through the fairways or you and your drinks will bounce all over the place. Overall a good day to be out golfing.
SOLO
The course was in pretty good condition considering we had rain the past few days. There was a couple of greens and tee boxes that needed work but the fairways were in good condition.
I always enjoy playing both courses at Quail Valley.
Great layout
The layout of the course was awesome. A few holes have a couple of tricky tee shots from the tips which made it that much more demanding. Only knock on the course is a few of the greens have some spotty grass but other than that I absolutely loved it. Played 18 holes in under 3 hours
Tuesday prices, Saturday pace—
I play during the week to get away from the 25 handicap foursomes. For background, 11 handicap and play 3 times per week around the Houston area. I’ve played La Quinta twice and will never go back to Quail Valley. Quail Valley management only have respect for El Dorado—as a 30 year old male, who has played golf for 7 years, 4/20/21 was the first time I’ve ever called the pro shop requesting a Marshall. The Marshall had as much discipline as a Joe Biden immigration policy. On hole 14, a foursome, all within 35 yards of the green—there was a single waiting at 120 yards from the green, a two party on 14’s tee box, and 3 separate parties of minimum two people waiting after 13. Each of the foursome 3 putted. This was ridiculous, after chatting with the Marshall encouraging scramble play or skipping holes, he only laughed and smiled. The Marshall enforced nothing, and is obviously enjoying retirement. Extremely disappointing—to keep 5 parties waiting on a foursome, on a Tuesday. We skipped holes 16, 17, and 18–found out the next party ahead of the foursome were on the 18th green while they were on 16 tee boxes.
The fairways are basically 200-350 yards of speed bumps, you’ll feel like a jack hammer operator if you hit in regulation. Tee boxes need to breathe, sand traps need much attention, cart paths make Westheimer Rd appear as if it’s laid with gold, greens are trash.
Hot Deals daily for a reason—sad I gave this place business twice.
You can update and maintain a course, updating culture and management—different difficulty.
