Good place to play
after reading the reveiws, was expecting very tight fairways, but was much better than anticipated.
Staff was friendly, carts were in good shape (no GPS). Driving range left a little to be desired, no yardage markers, but think the balls are the ones that don't fly full length, but could be wrong, but no turf, so got in a good warmup regardless.
The tee boxes were all in good shape, the fairway was good and houses weren't lined up right off the fairway, for once didn't lose any balls when straying left or right. Greens were in above average shape, thought some weeds growing in and around the green that offered some challenges (my only complaint). Overall course design, long and good number of dog legs and even a couple of holes that required some layups and planning. Overall, good day and will add to the rotation.
TLC
THIS COURSE NEEDS TREES CUT DOWN NARROW FAIRWAYS AND LONG PAR 4S FROM THE WHITES EVEN.
Needs TLC
Enjoyable
I've been playing Margaritaville (previously La Torretta) for a couple of years now. The course is in good shape - fairways and greens are well maintained and play fair. The pace was slow as there were a couple of 5-somes in front of my group of three. I think it's to be expected on the weekends now that the resort is up and running. The price tag at $60-65 is a little high, but so long as the course is maintained at its current state and the resort stays open, it's not terrible value.
Golf at Margaritaville-La Toretta
Staff was friendly, check in was quick, practice green was great. Course was great overall, not much to complain about. No marshal though to help speed up the game for some slow groups, but not horribly bad - ended up skipping a hole to get our group of 3 moving and finishing in less than 5 hrs.
An enjoyable round
Course was in good shape considerig the weather. The best part was was roll on the greens.....very true, good pace, and they would hold approach shots from all clubs. Play is 3.5 hours.
Fun course
Good fairways. Tee boxes are decently hard needs watering. Some patchy greens but overall good course wish it had GOS with the new carts.
Great course
No wait and no one pushing. The course was in great shape.
no refund
great course but will call the course directly next time. Tried to cancel but didn't read the fine print. You got me Golf Now. $47.08 lesson learned....
Average course
Course had great potential. Greens and fairways needed some work
Bad Shape
This course is in horrible shape, namely the greens. Most have very little grass growing. All have quarter-size and larger pot holes. No putt rolls straight, bounces up, bounces left, bounces right. Really disappointed. Not worth the $55
CRAPPY
HORRIBLE GREENS.
Absolutely waste of money. I shoot 70s-80s. Course is sub par at best.. proshop guy was rude didn't care. Club house is converted old building, like they just put a fresh coat of paint. The bar across the way looks cool, and the pool area looks interesting, Didn't go in though. Do not go for golf. Seems like they pumped all the money into lake/hotel area. I guess for $55 is not bad if your in the area... but not worth the drive for me. Rather play Tour 18 or Wilderness Golf Club. Im spolied from San Antonio where the golf is exceptional. If i had the rank public courses offered on GolfNow #1 Tour 18 #2 Wildcat #3 Wilderness... thats about it... Blackhorse is not worth $90 and Cinco Ranch is trash. I wish Houston offered better golf.... sad
skip it for now...it will be months before the greens will be playable...
I've played here many times since moving to Texas 8 years ago.
This is the worst that I have ever seen this place!
Took the hour and fifteen minute drive up from Houston in the expectation of similar conditions, if not better, than those previously experienced, especially since the change in ownership and the supposed $130 MILLION in renovations to the resort facility.
Obviously they chose not to spend any of that on anything to do with the golf course. It was in the worst condition that I have ever seen it. I was embarrassed that I brought my cousin and our spouses here for our Father's Day round when we got together on Saturday.
Let's start at the beginning, the club house is locked. So, no access to the rest room after being in the car for 75 minutes. I understand that precautions need to be taken under the current COVID-19 situation. But, no restrooms? Really?
We check in and get our keys to the golf carts. And now the contradiction to the previous position--the golf carts in the row that we walked to were filthy. So, we walk to the next cart area and the young man moving carts advises us to take a cart from the other line, that these haven't been cleaned yet. The carts had debris, spillage and dirt on them and clearly had not been cleaned, let alone disinfected or even washed. So, much for the COVID concern! We spent the next 15 minutes cleaning the carts prior to use, which combined with having to leave the course to get a bathroom for the ladies, then took any available time to warm up on the range away...smh.
Ok...whatever...it's about the golf anyway.
So, we head to the first tee and off we go.
I'm going to be brief because there really isn't much good coming.
The tee boxes overall were in poor condition, unfilled divots, weeds, grass of varying heights...
Fairways were spotty and also weeded.
Bunkers were unmaintained, some had some sand, some not so much, and didn't appear to have been attended to recently.
Now all of this can be somewhat overlooked if the greens are good. Nope. Not even close. These could be the worst greens that I've played on in the eight years that I've been playing in TX. Especially in comparison to how they have been in the past, and at the supposed quality of this golf resort.
Some had as much fungus as grass. There were literally dozens if not hundreds of mushrooms growing on several of the greens. At first I thought that they were rocks from the trap that maybe had been sprayed onto the green from a bunker shot and then rolled in when mower went over them. But, when I stuck the divot tool in to remove them from my line, mushrooms! lol / smh Not that it mattered much, there wasn't enough grass to put anyway, leaving them so bumpy that even a tap in was a risky endeavor.
Even the cart paths have gone to crap. In some places they are so bumpy and broken up that you just have to get off the path to not get tossed around.
It is a shame that this course has been allowed to get into this poor condition.
I waited a couple of days to post this review in an effort to gain some perspective and not be overly critical. So, just imagine how this would have gone had I written it right after the round!
Very disappointing to say the least.
In a game that etiquette, honesty and integrity are the norm and expected of participants, it seems to me that reciprocity should be required, and the course should be held to the same standard and advise players of any less than acceptable course conditions prior to taking our money.
One last note, they allowed a six-some. Bad enough if it was midweek, but on a holiday weekend, come on.
