Iron Horse Golf Course
About
Iron Horse Golf Course is laid out in the floodplain of Fossil Creek, an area loaded with woods and a railroad that divides the property into three tracts. When Dick Phelps designed the golf course he loaded it with par 4s that are over 400 yards. This track has only two par 5s, but you'll get your money's worth as they are virtually impossible to reach in two. Iron Horse's best hole is the 462-yard, par-4 third hole, which is generally a bogey hole for the average golfer.

Lots of ground under repair on every fairway. This was one of the better ones. Photo submitted by Ken9948006 on 03/27/2023

Beautiful as always
Love playing here. Although we went through a tough summer, you would never know based on how well they have maintained this course!!
not sure how to rate this course
i really want to rate this course higher as it has some great holes, but the conditions were all over the place. ill say that the greens were fine, punched about a week ago but did not affect the ball at all as they have come back nicely and are relatively quick. some fairways are nice and grassy and soft, then others are muddy and other yet dry and with huge bare spots. the tee boxes were very uneven so i just had to get creative. only saw one bunker and it was fine. there was decent amount of loose sand to control the shot. i played the first 13 in an hour and a half with nobody in-front of me but then at 14, it took me another hour and 20 minutes to finish the last 5 holes. still a great round under 3 hours starting at 915. i will give this course another shot but not for a while. im a huge greens guy and can usually deal with the other stuff, which is why im fine with this course and for the money, its worth it.
Tight fairways with bizarre conditions at the end
Greens were in great shape. The fairways, especially on the back half of the back nine were bizarrely inconsistent. In one spot standing water so bad that algae is growing. 3 feet away rock hard drought conditions. Not sure what's going on there but needs fixing.
Father’s Day round
The course was in very good shape, and the pace of play was pretty good.
Tight Course
Played from the green tees. Course is tight with creeks and trees.
Needs Some TLC
The course could be so much nicer. There were multiple fairways that were thin, had brown spots or had patches of dirt. For the money we paid, there are a number of DFW courses in better shape. The staff is excellent. It is shame they don't have a course to match.
Fun layout, confusing cart paths
Overall fun layout. Played with family who aren’t all that long, so played from white tee boxes. Found myself hitting allot of 5 irons, but kept me out of trouble with 100 yard wedge in on many holes. Pretty narrow, so not a place you want to spray it off the tee. Cart girl was awesome...Ryleigh I think her name was. Super sweet and bubbly. Only complaint (aside from heat,) was the lack of signs between holes. Really confusing for first time player...that’s been drinking. Not a big deal, but worth the mention. Looked like there was some damage to a few fairways/rough on back nine, but looks like they are working on it. Go play if you get a chance!
Fun course
This course is great! The only negative I could think of is the “cart path only” rule on a few of the holes. I’m handicapped, so walking gets more and more difficult throughout my round. I actually had to leave after 13 because my ankles were so swollen from walking so much. Other than that, I enjoyed it!
Some tough greens
I enjoyed every minute of the round. The weather was nice and the greens were mean..!!! Put the drivers away and sharpen those irons because they will be used for the majority of the round. Thanks to all of the staff for ANOTHER wonderful experience.
