Iron Horse Golf Course
About
Iron Horse Golf Course is laid out in the floodplain of Fossil Creek, an area loaded with woods and a railroad that divides the property into three tracts. When Dick Phelps designed the golf course he loaded it with par 4s that are over 400 yards. This track has only two par 5s, but you'll get your money's worth as they are virtually impossible to reach in two. Iron Horse's best hole is the 462-yard, par-4 third hole, which is generally a bogey hole for the average golfer.

Lots of ground under repair on every fairway. This was one of the better ones. Photo submitted by Ken9948006 on 03/27/2023

Average for a Summer Day
I Played in the evening during the week for cheap $. Unfortunately it was pretty backed up so we only got through 12.
The fairways on some of the holes were either flooded, or there were dead spots with bare dirty. Overall the fairways were cut well so you'd get some nice roll. The greens were a bit fast but in good shape.
The sand wasn't in bad shape, but could use a good Raking.
poor fairways
This course is normally exceptional, but most of the fairways were washed out and had multiple dead spots in them. its never fun to split a fairway and have to take a drop to get in actual grass. Bunkers were also pretty rough, need work.
Iron horse is the best!
Always a good day when you can play here. Highly recommend!
Very exciting to play
This course has a great layout with some very fun holes. Most of the course was in good shape however the bunkers could use some work. The staff was very friendly and the amenities were unique and inviting.
One of the best around...
First time playing here and was very impressed. I try to play a different course every time I'm in the Dallas area but I will return to this gem. Every hole makes you think about your second shot into the green. Went in as a single and got paired with a twosome that turned out to be a good time. Everyone was friendly and the ice water stations positioned throughout the course was a nice touch. Will definitely return and recommend. Don't skip on this one. Fairways were great and greens were soft and rolled true. Pace of play was really good for Memorial Day until the back nine then slowed a little.
Good, tee boxes need attention
I love this course, it's always a challenge and you really need a plan for each hole. Shot selection off the tee is really key here, and a lot of holes the driver will get you in trouble. Because of this the tee boxes need attention immediately. They are nice and green, but need to be leveled on just about every hole. Several times the best location to tee off left you with an up slope/down slope, or something else uneven for your stance.
Otherwise really a fun round and the greens rolled great 2 weeks into aerification.
Beautiful and Challenging
Course was in great condition and had plenty of challenging holes.
Need Marshall
I live on this course and one of my favorites. Know that weekday golf on a public is a bit helter skelter. But ran into a miserable 5 some...circled them and ran into a 4 some who were 3 holes behind the group in front. Need a Marshall who enforces reasonable play, not just to drive around with waste bucket...
This course a public gem, but don't lose the basics. Posting just a sign at the counter urging pace of play ain't enough. Enforce on course. Also need care as weather turns hotter and dryer. Keep golfers on carts around greens and consider filler along cart paths. Keep this gem nice!!!
Awful pace of play
Our round took over 5 hours with waiting on every tee box, sometimes backed up 2 entire groups. You would think that groups would naturally spread out after the Par 3s but this wasn't the case. This pro shop books tee times for groups of 4 only 7 minutes apart and has 1 Course Marshall who does absolutely nothing to speed pace of play. I will not play here again and will inform other golfers I know to prevent them from having the same poor experience my group had yesterday.
Choo- choo! Great time.
Iron horse is becoming one of my favorite places to play. The course layout and choice of tee locations gives the player a variety of shots to play off the tee. The greens are always in good to incredible shape, the bunkers can be rough some times, hard- but not all of them- (I guess I shouldn't be in 'em anyways:) ). The staff is friendly, welcoming, and engaging. The club house has a great selection of merchandise. The food selection in the dining area is one of the best around. It's nice to eat before or after the round and have better than decent food. Iron horse has really good food!! On the course they have cold beers, liquor, hot dogs, suasages, snacks, gatorades... the views are nice. There's some train cabooses thoughout the course and some decorative tee markers that are pieces of railroad I think. In some of the trains are bathrooms... and they are for the most part clean... clean enough I think ladies would use 'em if you bring some with you. All and all its a great time at Iron Horse. - sometimes pace of play may slow down but they have marshalls regurally doing what they can with the slower groups. - I am usually never in a hurry to finish a round and get off a coure though. Golf Over chores anytime of day!!
Outstanding Golf course
This course is outstanding. It was so plush, both greens and fairways.
What a gem to play,
Hungry
Nice Challenging course.. Does not go to club house on the turn so basically pack a lunch.
Good old course
Conditions were good and staff very friendly. It had been awhile since I last played Iron Horse but will put it in the rotation. It's a really fun layout and challenging!
Father and son day of golf
Great course! Met my father there, as we both drove in from out of town. We both enjoyed the round, definitely a course for any skill level as they have have several tee box options.
Most courses Mandatory 50 Yards from Greens With Carts. Stay on Cart Path if closer than 50 yards.
The Ruts caused by Carts screw up good play closer in to Greens.
Needs to be enforced by the Marshalls.
