A Hidden Gem
I'll try to be brief. This course is worth the drive; if you've played the Fairfield Glade courses and been pleased, then you will love this one. The course is cut through a forest in the hills near Center Hill Lake (although you will only get a glimpse of the lake from #12 green / #13 tee box). Fairways are zoysia, rough is Bermuda, greens are bent grass. Fairways are fairly generous, but if you miss one, you're headed into the woods.
The course was in excellent condition. The only "con" I have is that you must bring your range finder or Skycaddie -- there are NO 100-yard or 150-yard markers anywhere. I was guessing at yardages the entire round. The distances between several greens and tee boxes are very long, so you will want to ride. I hope this remote course can make a go of it -- I will definitely play it again.
Ok course, expected more.
My only issue with this course was with the location and with my expectations based on previous reviews. I live in Nashville; if this course for this price was available in Williamson or Davidson county it would easily be worth the price charged and would be a definite repeat play. Previous reviews made it seem like this place was in immaculate shape so we booked and took the long drive out there. I did not agree with the sterling reviews of the conditions at all. US Open rough...which could have been on purpose I suppose. Fairways somewhat beat up, greens slow and beat up. The people there were Really nice though and the layout was fun and tricky for the first time through... It was nearly empty and the pace was as fast as you'd want to go. I'd say if you find yourself nearby here, definitely come play. I don't think i'll by driving 90 minutes east again though... too many courses of the same quality for similar prices much closer.
Where is the River?
I booked this course based on the reviews, and they were spot on regarding the course conditions. It is in very good condition. The overall layout is very hilly, so you are always shooting either up or down. The front nine is fun while the back nine has a number of blind shots, so it's probably better the second time around.
What I couldn't understand was where was the river? With a name like RiverWatch, I thought that this would be a scenic course with river views. But there was no river to be seen. Only one hole, number 13 was "picture worthy"
So if you are looking for a a course in great shape, this is it. Just don't expect any "river" views.
Worth the Drive
Do yourself a favor and take the time to make the trip to this course. It is truly a hidden gem. The course has a great layout and will really challenge your game.
Will be back
I drove an hour and a half from Nashville to play here, and it was worth every minute. The fairways and greens were immaculate. Two of us teed at 10:30 on Memorial day, and we didn't see anyone in front of us until a pop-up storm stopped play while we were on 17. The course is long and scenic; the layout is challenging but it was a ton of fun to play as well. I would easily have played another 18 if it had 't started pouring after we finished. The hitting area on the range could use a little work, but this place really is a hidden gem and is well worth the scenic drive to check out.
Great choice
Great layout with many different hole styles. Zoysia grass is great change from the others
Great place to play
This place is a "diamond in the rough" type of place. Its always in great condition. Very tough course were you do not want to miss fairways. Only part of the course not in good condition would be the driving range and thats fairly minor to me. Will not be unhappy picking this place.
Best course in Middle TN!
This golf course should be the best course in middle tn. I hope people will take the time to travel here and keep this course going. Beautiful course. Love it
May 2015
The only thing that this course needs is water. Great course for the money.
senoir couple's golf outing
Greens recovering from aeration, everything else was 1st rate, friendly staff, very well maintained beautiful course.
Riverwatch
Course is in great shape. A very good value for the price. Staff and people out on the course all very friendly!! Excellent pace of play on this day.
Great course...lots of character.
This was my first time playing Riverwatch....and I will def be going back. I really liked the layout of the course. Very few straight forward holes and lots of elevation changes kept things interesting. Smooth greens and nice zoysia fairways made for an enjoyable experience...especially considering the $30 cost through golfnow.....well worth it.
Great Day at Riverwalk
Got paired with 3 guys from Murfreesboro. Played the Orange Tees about 6400 yrds. Little more course then I would have chosen. The course was in GREAT Shape. Much drier then Cookeville courses currently. I think we all had a good time and enjoyed the course. One of the best values on this site.
wonderful course
I enjoyed the course.. I can't wait for the grass to get green again..... worth the money
Slow round
Can't say I've played very many 5:40hrs rounds but for a 65 degree winter day the complaints are minimum. This course is beautiful and challenging for whatever skill you are but this day the greens were rather soft which made for bumpy greens. We also got backed up at the turn bc only 1 person was working bar and grill (35 minute wait).... Busy day pretty much caused the only problems here. Middle of the week this spring and I'll be here.
Best kept secret in Tennessee
I could not have anticipated that I would come across a golf course like this in Sparta. The course offers and great track and truly enjoyed playing. Try it you will most likely be impressed too.
good design but very tight
I enjoyed my round at Riverwatch. The course was very difficult because of the tightness of the fairways and all of the hazards and out of bounds around the greens.
Beautiful Course. Tough Holes
I'd like to start this by saying I'm not the best golfer in the world. I have 7.6 Handicap Index. I typically shoot somewhere between 8 - 14 over par from the White Tees but will occasionally play the longest and those are part of my index as well.. This course is absolutely beautiful. Some of the prettiest golf in the Middle TN area. Most holes have bunkers and or water somewhere near the greens. The front 9 is quite a bit easier to play. The fairways are wider and much more forgiving. I love playing the front as it's challenging but manageable. The back 9 is a different story
Holes 10 - 18 can be brutal if you are not on point with not only your drives but also your irons. The fairways squeeze in quite a bit and it has woods basically on every hole. Number 13 is one of the most picturesque holes you can find with a huge rock wall and stream running in front of the green which is playing up hill. It's definitely a must see and play hole.
I've been out to the course 3 times as it is just a few miles from my hometown. 1 time we were rained out about 4 holes in. 2nd time the weather was great. This last time it rained a little over an inch the night before. Each time, however, it has been a joy to play. It's by far the best course in the Upper Cumberland area. (That's counting the courses in Sparta & Cookeville, TN)
I've only been playing for 2 months and played a little over 20 rounds. Every time that I'm feeling good about my game I go out to RiverWatch and quickly and reminded how much I need to improve to play a course like this well.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND playing the course. Beautiful scenery. Very clean club house. Great golf carts and the fairways and greens are fantastic.
Hidden Gem
The course is in great condition. The layout is very challenging, but extremely fair. Make the trip to play this wonderful course
The best deal around.
This is a PGA level course. Clearly it has seen better days. I bought a deal and when I drove up I thought I was going to be playing in a cow pasture.. BOY WAS I MISTAKEN. This course is a gem. Hilly, tough, great greens, beautiful holes. With a little money invested, this would be better than the Hermitage. Hands down, its the best golf deal around.
