"How was your golf round" you asked...
To answer the question - Horrible. However I believe the course will recover nicely from my hacking.
To be honest, my son and I really enjoy this course and have played it several times together. The course is not easy but fair with well defined target areas to hit to with an appropriate punishment if you stray too far. Multiple tees make the course suitable for golfers of all levels above beginner. Tees, fairways, bunkers, and greens were all in excellent condition. Nice driving range and practice area.
Mistake
I had an unexpected free afternoon on a business trip. This place was close and reasonable so I decided to play. First impression of the facilities was a bit of a shock. I thought I had accidentally pulled up to the maintenance shack. It didn't improve from there. The guy who checked me in, (I wish I had gotten his name), was very anxious to use his authority. My time was 1:03 and he was adamant about not starting early. I assumed he would be pairing me up with others so it made sense. I had an hour so I hit some balls and putted a bit then headed to the tee area about 20 minutes early. I stood there alone for about 15 minutes and didn't see another soul. I walked back to the "clubhouse" and asked if I should just go. It was a different guy who laughed a bit and said to go. I played alone and didn't see anybody until 7. The course is poorly marked, directional signage almost non-existant, and the only yardage markers were the red white and blue stones in the fairway. The course is not in the Golf Logix library either. The course conditions reflected a tight budget with every possible corner cut. I quit after 14 because it just wasn't enjoyable. This should be high on your list of Minnesota Courses to Avoid!
I thought the yardage markers(played from blacks) were perfect when I played there my first time on Monday! Loggers Trail I absolutely love your course and I don't want you to let this review get you down! I will definitely be coming back very soon! They have one of the most fun ranges I have been too! And the clubhouse doesn't make the course! 5 Stars in my book!
I'm sorry you didn't have a great experience. We hope the rest of your trip was enjoyable.
The course is on Golf Logix however.
Beautiful course
I drove by this course many times when I lived in the general area but never played it. It's a very nice course and well maintained. I definitely will be back.
It's a challenging course with lots of mounds, woods, and well laid out.
Thank you for the kind words. We appreciate you coming out.
Best bang for your buck in the twin cities
I recently set up a golf outing for 20 players at Loggers Trail, and our experience couldn't have gone smoother.
I reached out to Loggers via their "contact us" page on their website with low expectations of getting a timely response, as is the case when inquiring through similar channels at other golf courses, but I received an email from the GM by that night asking how he could help set this up.
In a matter of 2 emails, Tim @ Loggers booked a block of 5 tee times for me and my friends at a prime tee time block, 9:30 am - 10:10 am on a saturday, and even went out of his way to ask if we wanted to have contests like longest drive & closest to pin set up on the course for our group. I was blown away by how responsive and accommodating Tim and his staff to our group.
Also, I firmly believe Loggers Trail is the best course in the twin cities at its price. it seems golfers are going to pay $50-$70 for a round with a cart on a saturday/sunday morning, and I think you'll be hard pressed to find a golf course with as much character, i.e. the sharp dog legs & pronounced contours and shapes of the greens, as Loggers has to offer.
All in all I couldn't give Loggers Trail GC a higher recommendation.
We really enjoyed your group, made for a very fun day.
Thanks for putting it together and we'll see you again hopefully.
Great Links Style course
Other than it was 40 outside the conditions were great. The fairways were well maintained and the greens were in good shape. I would recommend it to anyone looking to play a links style course.
Thank you for the kind words. Next time come in and let someone know about the weather. We'll get that fixed for you too!
favorite course
Good course for any level player. Can play long, crazy long and the white tees are fair for the average player.
I've been playing here for several years and love
every round. You have to pay attention or Logger's will jump up and bite you. Great group of seniors Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Thank you so much for the kind words.
Loggers
Loggers is a very nice course. The layout is fair, meaning the course plays fair unless you hit really bad shots. The greens are always nice, fast and smooth.
November golf
Great day for golf, coarse was in beautiful condition for Nov 3rd.
Great course
Played about 12 different courses in the area. I think this is my favorite. Fairways are beautiful. Great layout.
Great Layout
Course has a variety of holes, mostly links but a handful of hole where you would think you were in the north woods. Greens were pure but running a little too fast for windy conditions, virtually impossible to stop the ball by the hole.
Good course
First time I played this course. I am an average golfer who appreciates a challenging layout and good greens. This course did not disappoint!
Fun layout with greens that were true, running about an 8 stimp and soft enough to grab your ball.
The shack was minimal and if you want more then a hotdog you will need to head down the road.
I would recommend and will definatly put this on my hit list for next year.
Interesting Layout
Loggers is a fun course to play with a nice mix of links and woodland golf.
Wonderful
Sure the clubhouse leaves a bit to be desired, but it's obvious the money goes back into the holes you pay to play on. I'd rather play a great course and relax in a small clubhouse, than play an awful one and complain about it in a posh golf palace. Challenging from any tee, great holes, tricky greens. This is far and away the best course between the St. Croix River and Minneapolis. As a frequent patron I hope nobody believes my review so I can enjoy this gem all to myself.
Good course layout and was in great shape.
Good value with Golf Now. Not such a good value if paying full price. Time for them to invest in a clubhouse that had inside bathrooms.
Terrific day at Loggers
Play this course about three times a year and always enjoy it. Loggers is a challenging course that will have a golfer using some skill as well as stategy. Greens have subtle movement to them which can be frustrating as your putt looks very good for a long time then...just misses as it catches a break. However the greens are usually in very good condition and roll quite well. All in all, a fine course that is attractive and fun to play. If you can score well here, you should consider it a day well spent.
Best staff, best public course in twin cities
It all starts with the staff. Been here a number of times and always have a present experience inside the clubhouse. Cart ladies are also very attentive and put a smile on your face.
Next the course has everything you need with a mix of tee boxes to challenge everybody tips going back to over 7100. Beautiful scenery, great mix of holes and plenty of risk/reward shots that makes golf such a great challenge. Nice range with two greens (one island) to practice on the irons and markers up to 250 to dial in the woods. Multiple putting greens that role true. My favorite course in Minnesota.
#Blushing Thank you for the kind words.
Love it!
This track has it all. It is in great shape and has excellent character. I love the layout. Plenty of bogies, but also plenty of birdie opportunities when your approach is on. Very fair overall. I've played it 8 times now and it has played differently every single time. The grounds crew can adjust the tees and pins and you're playing a different course each time. I would become a member of I lived a little closer - no brainer.
Thank you so much for the nice words. We really think the different tees and pin locations is a great perk. So it is nice hearing that.
Great Conditions, Awful Pace of Play
The course was in great shape. The greens weren't terribly fast but still enjoyable to play on. The fairways were great and the rough was just what it should be. And the overall layout makes it a fun course to play and easy on the eyes.
The two complaints I have were that there were tons, TONS of unfixed ball marks on the greens. On the majority of holes I was fixing 4 to 5 aside from my own.
Secondly, on the back 9 there was a 6some playing together. An attendant from the clubhouse (not a ranger) came out and said he asked them to let groups play through or if they could play in 2 groups. They let one group play through and then there were 4 groups backed up after them for the rest of the back 9. This really should never be allowed, not tolerated at all. Lead us to a 5 hour round.
Thank you for the feedback and fixing the ball marks, we need more guys like you. We don't allow fivesomes, much less six somes, so we will investigate what went wrong, certainly not the comments we want to hear.
Loggers Trail is my favorite course for the price
Love loggers trail. It's like a hidden gem in some ways. Great price, nice layout and conditions, will give any golfer a challenge. Can't argue with 2 for 1s following your round either.
Thanks for the comment. We'd love to be told we are a found gem. Thanks for playing we'll see you again.
Enjoyable track
Loggers Trail is a fairly challenging, but fair course. It rewards straight shots and penalizes errant ones. Fairways and greens are in good shape. Not a bad course to walk.
Thank you for the nice review we appreciate that.
Thank you for the kind words. If you're golfing with your son, the score doesn't matter right? Unless he beats you.
