About
Falconhead Golf Club sits just west of Austin in the midst of the scenic Hill Country, tumbling across a rolling landscape covered with knobby cedars and towering oaks. The challenging layout was designed to PGA standards, making it one of the most popular public golf courses in the area. The greens are fast and each is protected by at least one bunker. The golf course offers an interesting variety of holes that will require the use of every club in your bag. On windy days, the lengthy par 4s are especially tricky. Golfers will be faced with a variety of challenges on this course including dramatic uphill approaches, forced carries, blind shots, and doglegs. There are also meandering creeks that crisscross the course and a number of ponds that come into play. Falconhead Golf Club's signature hole is the beautiful par-3 17th, which will require your most accurate iron.

A winter round
I play this course 2-3 times per month. Typically, playing a round here is a delight. The day started with no hybrids, fairway woods, or drivers permitted to be hit on the driving range, as netting on the high school side had collapsed and it was not yet repaired or replaced. Given the recent harsh weather storm, today the course required cart-path-only - this made for almost 4 hrs 45 min round. Further, the greens were not cut and/or rolled to their normal standard, which made them significantly slower than usual; hopefully, they can get the course back to “normal”, as that provides for a dramatically more enjoyable round. Despite these issues, it is still a wonderful experience, which is made even better by staff such as Dave (starter/Marshall).

Great course, but painfully long round
The course is in good shape and a great layout. Lots of new housing construction on some fairways, very loud and an eyesore; will lose some of the natural feel/views and instead be like playing each hole in a housing development. Staff ate both professional and personable. Beverage person visible and professional. My only criticism is that it was a painfully long round - 4hours 45 min long - ON A MONDAY afternoon! There were no marshall sightings. That put a huge damper on an otherwise enjoyable day.

I have been a member of FHGC for 6 years and have watched it improve every year. Hats off to the crew especially in the last 3 years for elimination of unnecessary cedars and trimming the beautiful oaks trees. This saved water and sped up the pace of play by players looking too long for their balls. Also it made the course more attractive while not eliminating the challenge of the recovering shot should you go into the edges.

its a shame nice course looks like the reviews are the same management sucks and they doubled billed me now they want me to track and do all the leg work for them they can keep my money I will never spend a dime in this place also the guy inside when i played didn't even wear a mask thought i liked to mentioned that they must not believe in Covid and don't care about your health either again poor management nice course

Good course conditions / boring course layout
Pros:
- greens were in excellent shape
- cart girl was around every 3-4 holes
- fairways & tee boxes were in decent condition
- good practice facility
Cons:
- course layout was boring
- bunkers were half empty
- range balls were $15 for a medium bucket
- all ball cleaner machines were empty
- carts were dirty
Overall, I’d give this course 3 stars. Mainly due to the course layout - every other hole is a similar look.

Pace of play is awful
Greens are in great shape, but the bunkers are absolute garbage. Like they aren’t maintaining the bunkers at all, which is super odd considering so many other courses in town are in great shape and using rakes.
And the pace of play was the worst of any course I’ve played in the last year and no one out checking on pace of play.

Great Course
I always enjoy playing this course, because it is a great layout, and always in good shape. Even with an early frost delay and with an afternoon tee time, was still able to get all 18 in. Great practice area makes it even better

Overall reasonable experience but...
At the courses price point getting a mixed set of rental clubs with Nike clubs 10 years old hurt the overall experience. Mightily. Liked the course but without reasonable equipment experience diminished.

Terrific Public Course!
Beautiful surroundings... ample parking... friendly staff... easy check-in... helpful and informative starter. Well maintained course and great playing conditions for the winter season. Open layout and nicely challenging (speed) greens. Very busy facility, but never felt crowded. Pace of play was well managed... never waited more than 2-3 minutes before teeing-off. Will definitely return!
