Beautiful parklands course
What a lovely place! The greens were perfect - really well kept and in great condition ( credit to the grounds person/people!) The fairways were difficult in this very dry weather, the ball just kept rolling and followed the lie of the land, often across onto other fairways!! This is no way a fault of the club as all courses are suffering from a lack of rain this year.
I will definitely be returning to test my skills (or lack of)again.
Tony and Quinn’s smashing adventure
The professional was really helpful in giving us tips and course directions before we started. Henbury was a delight to play. The greens were very fast due to the lack of rain probably but we adjusted to that pretty quickly. The fairways and greens were in fantastic condition and the professional had said that they maybe needed a bit more time. Can’t wait to play again to find out if it can possibly be even better. Thoroughly enjoyed this course.
Not worth the £75 green fee
Greens in good condition without being fast but disappointed overall with the round given the high green fee - green complexes were often featureless, course feels too compact with fore shouts seemingly relentless and no option for coffee / breakfast before 10am.
Pace of play very slow so, overall, doesn’t come close to far more illustrious neighbours Bristol & Clifton and Long Ashton that are charging the same green fee.
First time playing Henbury despite living not far away really good to make it available more. Let’s begin with minor issues first. My tee time did clash with slow 4 ball starting think staff tried to explain you don’t necessarily get time you book but then would be nice to know what time you should start. Other thing was the 10th hole. Crazy climb from the tee must keep average age of membership down though I do understand with layout you have to climb somewhere and felt most here. Finally crossing of holes was ok as I found quiet break but must be dangerous when busy and this is only front nine. As for course itself it was starting to get wet but some really nice holes and setting and very friendly lad in clubhouse who showed me around. Would definitely recommend and be back myself soon.
Shambles and unwelcoming for visitors
Had. 3.00 tee time and when we got to the tee. 2 ball in front told me they had a 3.00 time too. Went to pro who told me they in fact had 3.08 (so clearly trying their luck to get out in front of us) members waiting around tee then declared they were next as course was ‘roll up’ for members. Another visit to Pro shop for me and I asked him to come and sort it out. He then told me they ‘endeavour’ to get visitors out near there alloyed tee time. I told him no mention of that when booking and I insisted that we tee off as we would lose the light. To say that was stressful with 2 groups glaring at us was an understatement. Horrible experience and Pro really couldn’t be bothered. He should have warned us or taken control of the chaos on the 1st tee. Won’t be rushing back!
excellent
played this course with my wife , very enjoyable, not too difficult good walking ,greens really good staff very friendly, overall a good choice👍
Booked tee time but had to queue to get on.
Booked a late tee time after work to get a round in before dark. Turned up at the course to find they were operating a roll up with 4 groups already waiting on the tee at the time we were supposed to tee off!! Ended up teeing off over half an hour late and of course had no chance completing 18 holes. I really don't think that tee times should be offered if they can't honour the slot. Disappointing.
Summer Evening Stroll
Our booking was the same time as an open roll up for members so there was quite the quee for the first tee and we teed off 20 mins late . Course very busy and due to layout of parkland course some holes there were balls coming at you form all angles on the front 9 !
However positives outweigh negatives , fantastically maintained course , beautiful greens , smart clubhouses , friendly members all made for a great evening of golf . Some really challenging holes which keeps you concentrating through out .
Excellent golf club .
Mature course with some great feature holes and very solid greens.
Being over 100
Years old it has some great holes and mature landscape. Greens were very good and I’d definitively play there again. Amazing value for money!
First time at Henbury
First impressions were good. The young man in the pro shop was friendly and gave us a quick heads up as to the lay out of the course.
The course was in great condition all the way around. Some sloping fairways were very difficult to keep your ball on.
Quite tight on some tee shots, not favouring a player like myself, with a slight fade (or a big slice) as my normal 'miss' with a driver.
The club house was welcoming after finishing.
Great looking course
Very enjoyable course to play. Well looked after bunkers, greens and tee boxes. Some excellent par 3's and interesting elevation.
Didn't Disapoint
Lovely course and a decent challenge.
Trees often come into play.
Some tees are not well signposted, so coming off the green on a couple of holes, it was difficult to find the next tee.
Tenth is a bit of a "cardiac hill", but the only really steep hole on the course.
Very friendly members and staff.
Looked forward too playing the course and it didn't disapoint.
Would certainly go back.
Lovely Day out for the fit golfer
Lovely day out, a few hilly bits so a buggy would have made the day perfect, will certainly play again
Friendly club
My first time playing. Everyone I met in the shop and on the course was very cheerful and helpful.
Course was in great condition despite recent heavy rain.
Greens excellent. Many holes beautifully framed by mature trees, but did not feel punishingly narrow.
If you've played here before you'll know there's a steep hill to climb at one point, good for the lungs!
Worth a visit. Very well kept. Small, tight, sloppy.
A traditional club beginning to open up to non-members. Nice, well-kept grounds and greens, with plenty of trees parting each fareway. Hilly, very in parts, and sloppy fairways from holes 3-11; will always roll off the fareway in dry conditions. Small course with a number of crossovers - playing over greens or waiting for others to drive off on another hole before you can play. Oddly a number of ladies tees behind the male tees and getting an extra shot! The fareways are narrow and relatively short. I used no more than a 6 iron until hole 14. Worth a visit or two. Suitable for older golfers, although the hill is a killer. Someone who drives long probably wouldn't want to play it that often.
