Hole 18's View from Green Photo submitted by PulsarX on 02/10/2018
Old School - water everywhere
With 13 holes having water in play and as narrow as the course layout can be, this course will challenge your shot making ability.
Many of the water hazards are not visible from the tee - beware, as what looks good from the tee might found the water.
Great course
Sammons is not a long course, but definitely placement golf and a very appealing course. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this course to anyone.
Average condition
Course is in average condition. Most tee boxes are in poor condition. Not much grass on tees and very uneven. Staff as usual not very friendly .
Ok for the money
The greens were slow but overall in good shape. Great course in the summertime. Lots of risk reward holes.
First time at course
Greens and fairways were REALLY bad. We spent $14 through Golfnow so, this wasn't too big of a loss. The only way I would go back to play, is to improve my score. Definitely not missing this course.
So So
The first thing the person in the ProShop told me was that there was no difference in price between booking online with Golf Now versus Calling the Course Directly which was not true cause I booked a special rate.
Nice course
Not many places to play central Texas. Nice to know there is a good one! We can come here and relax . . . beautiful course.
Nice course
This is a nice course. Always in good shape and they space people nicely so you can relax and enjoy!
tough course
lot's of water, o b lines, and trees. greens were good. great fall colors. would like to see it in the spring.
Fun Layout, Good Greens, Excellent Value
This course is located in the middle of Temple situated around Lake Polk. Several holes run beside the lake on both sides of the course. Numerous holes have unique and fun designs: greens guarded by a small water hazard or a creek running in front, forcing you to fly onto the green.
The practice green was terrible and did not represent the greens on the course which were in great shape! Cut close with nice subtle undulations. Trees are all around the course providing difficulty and protecting the course.
We played it two days in a row and plan to return. Very good value. We played on Sat/Sun. It was crowded and slow. The course attracts beginners and they held up the pace. This, however, would not keep us from playing there again.
The course is nice but I think they overbook
I really like the course! The staff and grounds are maintained well and it's a challenging course. The only real complaint I have of the course is that they seemed to over book the course. When I was teeing off there were already two groups behind me and one that had just tee'd off and I was waiting on them. Other then that though the course is great and very well maintained.
3 hour round....
If I am on pace for a 3 hour round, then I shouldn't have the head pro / assistant pro following me from Hole 15 pulling flags. This wasn't dusk...it was 615 with a good 45 minutes of light left in the day. It gives the impression that I am hindrance getting in the way of your off time.
I don't need an audience from tee box to clubhouse. If you don't want to be at the course until sundown, then find a new job that doesn't require you to respect the green fees that I have paid. It put a really foul mood on an otherwise decent round.
Great Value!!
The staff was great from check in to the Marshall's to the Staff at the grill! The food was delish. Course looked in good shape and the pace was awesome! Would have like a beverage cart to come around. All in All great course for the money!!
Enjoy playing here very much
Course difficulty increased due to recent renovation and changes on some of the holes, but still fun to play.
A great course for skilled and unskilled golfers.
The course was in good shape and play was steady. It was a good course to play for the price. There were a couple of easy holes that made up for the more difficult ones. I really enjoyed playing this course. I will play this course again whenever I have the chance.
Nice setting.
First time played and very nice surroundings. Lots of water.
par 3's are fun
Check in was good until they realized I made our tee time through golfnow.com that's when their attitude changed, they began to treat us differently as if we had cheated them. My advice to them is try to up sale, every golfer always needs something ( gloves, balls, tees, etc.) And we all know that everything cost more in the pro shop.
Lots of water in play, surprising difficult.
Plays much longer than listed on card, the course is in very good shape. The greens were a little slow when we played, but plenty of grass. It has several water carry holes, but it a very enjoyable track. I played with a beginner who struggled with all the water, however i thought it was very good layout. The shorter holes are lined with trouble and longer holes are more wide open. Staff was very nice. It is a strange configuration of holes, by that I mean you have to watch the signs to get from hole to hole.
Get The Snorkel...
If you enjoy hitting over water, then this is your course. Good layout, plenty of challenging holes, (water in play on about 12 of them) and course conditions are pretty good for this time of year. I definitely will go back, but probably will bring some less expensive balls next time.
lots of water
played in early march, fairways are very thin. price about right for city course. driving range is above average
