Bayou Golf Course
About
Joe Finger laid the Bayou out in the 1970s. The links-style course he carved out of the 200 acres along Moses Bayou has plenty of water and elevated tees and greens. The Galveston Bay winds affect this open course, so the 6,665-yard, par 72 plays significantly longer. Every par 5 is over 500 yards, and four of the par 4s are over 400 yards.
On the front, the long par 4 No. 6 is tough because the approach must carry the bayou to a tiny green. And No. 10 involves a lake off the tee and on the approach.
The back is what really tears into the soul of a golfer, though, presenting a 580-yard double dogleg on No. 15 followed just a short while later by the ridiculous 475-yard par 4 17th. This hole is lined on the left by old Moses, and water hazards creep into the fairway. The inevitably long approach goes into an elevated green guarded by water.
Getting there : From Hwy. 146 south, turn right on Loop 197, and head over to Ted Dudley Dr. Turn right, and the course is on the right side of the street.

Enjoyable Course
Fairways for 3 holes are always a work in progress due to nearby gulf. However the course is always in good shape. Definitely worth the cost.
Staff is the best!
Nice course
Everything was great!
Whoever placed the cups that day is pure evil!
Keep up the good work!
Don’t Recommend
Have played here many times & this is the worst I’ve seen it. Front 9 fairways had little grass, back was better. All greens were lumpy & slow. No food or drink available & water on course was brown & tasted bad. We won’t be back anytime soon & don’t recommend it at any price.
Back Nine
Play the back 9 twice , front 9 pointless because of damaged fairways. Back 9 in great shape currently, greens were nice. Great value for 20 bucks !
The restaurant and grill was closed. So you had to bring your own food and drinks. Which wouldn’t be an issue except the fact that we didn’t know about this till we got to the course and read the note on the entrance door. At the least have a cooler with water and ice available in the club house with it being in the mid 90’s. The course looks a lot better than it did the last time I played there.
Classic
Tee box - fine, but hard
Fairways - dried out but got extra roll
Bunkers - some not great
Greens - way better than expected
Paid $24 and had my kids with me. We were the only people out there so tons of time to run around and take our time.
It’s also quite windy there so the heat want too bad.
Rained out after 9 holes
Good round of golf for 9 holes until rain & thunder arrived.
Well worth the $1 a hole deal
I’m not sure why people hate on this course so much. Is it the best? NO. It it worth a hot deal, absolutely! It’s a decent spot. Its also byob at the moment.
It’s a good course to go enjoy a stress free round at a decent course. The rough patched in the fairway on the front 9 are there due to the ocean ride rising at times, and they are in places where you shouldn’t hit your ball.
Sandy greens
Course was dry and The 1st 3 fairways weren't underwater, that was a plus. The greens, however, we're very sandy as it looks like they were recently punched. Course also kept their water coolers filled and the water actually tasted good...another plus. Overall had a good time and will continue to come back. :My 3-star rating isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Good course
Fairways still need work. Greens were in pretty good condition.
Bayou
Great golf course, wished they had the food/drink station open.
Best value on the gulf by far
Bayou is a hidden gem for the recreational golfer. $18 for twilight with a cart? Are you kidding me? Best value around, by far. The front 9 fairways are beat up and are missing large patches of grass, but it's in the middle of a saltwater bay, so it has to be so hard to maintain. But the grass that was there (which is most of it), it was plenty fine to hit off of. We just lifted and placed on the nearest grass, no big deal. The water makes it challenging but the views are fantastic. Greens were in good shape, as were the tee boxes. The back 9 was a totally different story. It's not next to the bay but has some ponds. Back 9 was in very good shape which is saying a lot given the heat and the salt water nearby. I'll definitely be back.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the value for money and found the back 9 in good shape. Our team would like to apologize for the condition of the front 9 fairways and assure you that we're working hard to maintain them better. We look forward to having you visit again.
Bring a snorkel
Played day after a rain storm. Cart path only. Standing water all over the place. Only course I have ever lost a ball in the fairway due to water conditions. Greens were solid though! Back nine was a confusing lay out for a first timer. Need better signs to find a couple of tees. Would have been lost without the gps. Fun course other than the extra water hazards
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and for acknowledging our solid greens and fun course. We apologize for the water conditions during your game and appreciate your feedback on our signage and course layout.
Not bad for the price
Several fairways just unplayable as they were just mud. Yes it has recently rained hard, but the conditions weren't just from the recent rain
