About
Joe Finger laid the Bayou out in the 1970s. The links-style course he carved out of the 200 acres along Moses Bayou has plenty of water and elevated tees and greens. The Galveston Bay winds affect this open course, so the 6,665-yard, par 72 plays significantly longer. Every par 5 is over 500 yards, and four of the par 4s are over 400 yards.
On the front, the long par 4 No. 6 is tough because the approach must carry the bayou to a tiny green. And No. 10 involves a lake off the tee and on the approach.
The back is what really tears into the soul of a golfer, though, presenting a 580-yard double dogleg on No. 15 followed just a short while later by the ridiculous 475-yard par 4 17th. This hole is lined on the left by old Moses, and water hazards creep into the fairway. The inevitably long approach goes into an elevated green guarded by water.
Getting there : From Hwy. 146 south, turn right on Loop 197, and head over to Ted Dudley Dr. Turn right, and the course is on the right side of the street.

Front 9 fairways
It’s almost impossible for them to get them in order. Not all are bad and I don’t blame them. It’s right on the water and floods out when it rains. Back nine is pretty good. Would recommend cause it’s not pricey at all

Not Bad!!
It’s not a bad course, has more that a few dog legs holes (left and right) very playable and challenging. first few holes the fair ways and greens need attention. Once you get to the back nine the fairways and greens get a little better. Also if you don’t do well in high winds might want to check the weather before going, there some are pretty tight fairways and lots of water.

Coastal public course
Rough fairways. Many fairways areas missing grass. Poor drainage after heavy rains, may be the cause. Greens, most were in fair to good shape. Tee boxes are all rough. All in need of sand. Decent golf carts. Nice driving range and practice area. Nice layout, no development houses around the course. That was nice. Just coastal breezes.

Always enjoy playing here. Older course built up in coastal marsh land and still well cared for. Will keep coming.

Sometimes it's ok to close.
It rained the night before..Called and asked if the coarse was wet? They said no it's playable. So as expected it was cart path only..Lol course was no where near playable. Every fairway had standing water on it and 90& of shots had to be moved to a piece of fairway that was not under water. If that wasn't bad enough they let 6 players play in one group together. Normally I'm patient enough, but when it's that wet and cart path only they should only let 2somes play. It was really really slow. And the 6some never offered to let me play through..Of coarse I just skipped a hole and played ahead.

Course needs lot of TLC
A lot of fairways and greens are in bad condition. This is an ongoing issue for a few years now.

Fairway Concrete
There has been giant mud pits in the fairways for far too long. It could be a nice course if that wasn’t a problem. I come back every 6 months and nothing changes.

Fairways are in bad shape and the greens need work.
The best part about this course is the restaurant in the clubhouse. I have played in twice in the last month and was underwhelmed both times. There is a beverage cart going around which is always nice but the employees in the pro shop are short, rude, and unwelcoming. The gentleman in the clubhouse on 3/4/23 seemed unhappy that our group was there to play and was only worried about getting us out of his way. The marshal was nice and reminded us once, respectfully, that we needed to keep up the pace of place. I don't mind being reminded and he did it nicely. The driving range is average but too close to hole 9 and there are a lot of yellow range balls in the fairway. If you hit the ball left, the front nine will be brutal as almost every hole has OB left. At least half of the fairways have large dirt areas without grass or have standing water/mud. The food at the restaurant is very good and the prices are fair. Restrooms along the course look like shacks that no one has upkept in years. Fine course for beginners or people just wanting to get outside but if you're looking for a good course, go somewhere else.

Great course with a little salt water damage but hey its nature. Enjoy the gulf breeze and an alligator siteing or two. Friendly staff good food.

Worst Greens ever played
They need to close this place for a while a work on the greens...They are terrible ...Weeds and bumpy all around .Not coming back
