About
Joe Finger laid the Bayou out in the 1970s. The links-style course he carved out of the 200 acres along Moses Bayou has plenty of water and elevated tees and greens. The Galveston Bay winds affect this open course, so the 6,665-yard, par 72 plays significantly longer. Every par 5 is over 500 yards, and four of the par 4s are over 400 yards.
On the front, the long par 4 No. 6 is tough because the approach must carry the bayou to a tiny green. And No. 10 involves a lake off the tee and on the approach.
The back is what really tears into the soul of a golfer, though, presenting a 580-yard double dogleg on No. 15 followed just a short while later by the ridiculous 475-yard par 4 17th. This hole is lined on the left by old Moses, and water hazards creep into the fairway. The inevitably long approach goes into an elevated green guarded by water.
Getting there : From Hwy. 146 south, turn right on Loop 197, and head over to Ted Dudley Dr. Turn right, and the course is on the right side of the street.

Nice day for golf!
The only reason I didn’t give all excellent is the condition of some of the fairways as they have no grass due to high tide situations. The greens roll very true and with some speed to them.

Slow & Squishy
Course obviously has a drainage problem as we had to endure "cartpath only" throughout the entire 18 holes. And even then we had to be careful where we stepped as mindfields of squishy ground would block the pathway to our ball. All of this, along with strong winds, led to pace of play of over 5 hours.
One plus were the greens - most were in excellent shape except 18 which had numerous fungal patches near the fringes.
The reason I'm recommending this to friends is the GolfNow price and the hope that one day the course will dry out enough to encourage normal play and cart usage.

Sloooow
The reason for the bad rating is that the pace of play was very bad even for a Friday. The starter could of made a huge difference in the situation by grouping up twosomes to make foursomes. Having twosomes mixed with foursomes and add in a threesome or two for good luck, and you will have multiple groups waiting on the same tee box on almost all the holes. The fairways were really bad in some places but that’s Bayou! I like the greens and the majority of the fairways that don’t get nailed every high tide!

Fairways suck
Greens are pretty good , run about 11 or 12. The fairways on many holes are grassless in every place that the tide has covered them with brine water especially 1, 3, 6.

Tale of two nines
Condition of greens and fairways on front nor was terrible I appreciate there must have been a lot of flood damage but some fairways only 50% grass and greens full of weeds and unpredictable.
Back 9 total contrast true greens and nice fairways
Maybe when or if the front 9 recovers I will play again as the layout of the holes and water make it a tricky little track
Play got a little backed up as it was busy but hey it was Saturday golf
Staff very friendly and helpful and for the price I paid suppose fair enough wouldn’t pay more

Not the course it used to be.
I’ve played this course before, It was a pleasure to play. Decent fairways, bunkers, and great greens. Now it’s a cow pasture. Terrible fairways, most with no grass. All the greens were weedy and bouncy. With all respect this Artic freeze Texas has experienced may be part of the reason for some of the conditions, but it could also be it’s becoming neglected in maintenance. Not sure what to think. Not worth the $28 Golfnow fee we each paid.
