Nice club, terrible course

TLDR version: above average practice facilities, friendly staff, conditioning (in summer) fair for the cost. Layout is awful.

The club and pro shop staff were all perfectly friendly, food was god and the members we spoke with were all very friendly and the club had a great feel as a visitor.

This gripe is relevant only to my experience but my playing partner and I chose this course because the practice facilities looked great and we both wanted the chance to hit some balls before playing. However, the range was closed for a classic car show - hundreds of cars parked all over the driving range. Not even a net to hit into just to try and find the middle of the club face before teeing off.

However, my biggest issue is the layout of the course, namely 1) the number of trees IN fairways and 2) multiple cross-over holes that slow down play massively.

I know this is a tree-lined parkland course and that isnt the issue. In many instances the corridors have been allowed to narrow too much, but way more aggregious is how many holes are about shaping shots around trees. on the 16th, you hit down another straight, tree-lined corridor and then 50 yards from the green, a full oak tree sits 15 yards into the fairway meaning you have to hit a low slice or a very high fade, from 180 yards over the oak tree. It is a bad hole. But wait, the 18th is worse!

I hit my drive of the day round the slight dog leg left. I still had 200 yards in but in front of me was a beech tree, 40ft tall, 40ft wide. If I'd laid back, you'd realistically need to leave yourself 250 out from the green in order to get it over the tree unless you can hit a controlled hook.

Being penelised repeatedly for hitting shots in fairways is so frustrating. If it were on a hole or two, fine. What's so frustrating is that the bones of the course are there. Leaning so heavily into trees-as-a-hazard and being blocked out all the time isn't fun.

I wouldnt play this again as a visitor. I cannot imagine why anyone is a member here.

Terrible greens

Played here Sunday ! Shame to see such a good course being neglected , greens all bare , pitted and bumpy. Fairways just as bad. Save your money and go elsewhere!

Didn’t live up to the hype

Course layout here is an absolute zero. I can see why you’re given a map. Too many crossover holes which would be an absolute nightmare if it was a little busier. Literally standing on a tee box that goes right over the previous green making people wait.

Back 9 better than the front, it’s not as repetitive. But overall for the area there’s many better courses. For an estate this size as well the range is almost non-existent.

Interesting Course

Played 18 holes at the Warren, cousr has a challenging & interesting layout - bit coufusing with the crossover holes & occasionally dificult to work out where the next tee was.

Fairways a bit brown & cracked in places but greens were superb if a little bit quick for me :)

Front 9 very hilly & difficult but back 9 was abit of a releief on the legs as it was much flatter.

Only thing that ruined the experience is that it was Lady's day & I had a stuck up woman talk to me like dirt as I didn't see they were on the green on one of the crossover holes & hit my tee shot (nowhere near her by the way) - spolit the first few holes as I was so angry about the way she spoke to me - I presume just because she is a memeber she thinks it's ok.
