Great 9 Holes in a not so great area.
This 9 hole course is very new and it was my first time there. It was well worth the very busy traffic getting there to play, which is the main reason I say "not so great area". That being said, the day before 4th of July was a crowded hot day, but there was a nice breeze and the starter does an excellent job getting you out in a manner that the pace moved along very well with minimal backups. I'd call 2 hours and 10 minutes very good for a busy day. For a 9 hole in a tight spot I was surprised at how well they fit the very nice variety and challenging holes. Skyway is like an oasis in the industrial trucking section of Jersey City. I played again the following week and will definitely play more in the very near future..
Don't Let this 9 Hole Course Fool You
First thing that stood out to me is that Skyway is very well maintained. If you have played other courses around NYC then the bar is lowered in terms of course maintenance. Skyway puts those courses to shame.
The design is ridiculous (in a good way), it truly is astounding how they were able to fit 9 very fun holes into the space they were given.
It may only be 9 holes, but the conditions and difficulty are better than some 18 hole country clubs that I have played.
The price with cart is a bit much for 9 holes, $45 for a non-Hudson County Resident. With the county resident card, I believe the price drops to $30 -$35. Which almost makes it a bargain.
I am sure this will become my home course.
Very good location in urban setting
First the proximity to my work is unreal - same street. Being that I work late afternoons, get a tee time at noon, play 9 in a couple hours and to work in a couple mins (could even walk). Like most have said on previous reviews, great conditions and always slightly windy to keep it challenging. Wish it was 18. (3) par 3's, (3) par 4's, (3) par 5's is a nice mix. Feels slightly tight because the of the shared boundaries between the longer fairways. And it seems crazy but I find more balls here than anywhere else - think no one looks very hard. Pace of play is hit or miss. This will become my regular weekly stop.
Golf in the sky
Love the course, Love the layout and it's views. I'm a Hudson county resident and I've been waiting for a golf course in the county for a long time so I'm glad we finally have one. In my opinion I think that the course plays great for all type of players, it's always in great condition and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I will definitely continue to play there and tell other to play it as well...
Skyway
Skyway GC is a very good 9 hole course! There are some challenging holes and it's in great shape.
The way golf should be
This is quickly becoming my favorite spot to play. If you live in downtown Manhattan this is a no brainer to try out.
35 isn't cheap list price for a 9 hole course but the value is comparable to a very high end course. If this were 18 it would be comparable to ferry point.
3 3s, 4s and 5s. If you carry your drive 250 play from the tips. Will test every club in the bag.
Windy location. And you get both SE and NE winds which makes the course pay very differently. Usual is a 2 club wind.
No driving range. But they have warm-up cages for 2 bucks.
Great Course in Jersey City
Good condition, great layout, you can walk the course, breeze can make course fun and challenging. Enjoyable course. Will play again
Well kept fun course
Played mid-week in windy weather. The course played very short from the white tees. Probably would play further back next time but due to the wind and no course knowledge teed it forward. Course was in great shape fairways rolled nice and greens rolled true. Nice layout no pace of play issues...couple older guys walking let us play thru without issue. I will definitely return here.
Skyway Golf Course
My experience was very good. This was the first time that I played the course and found it suprisingly difficult for a nine-hole course. I enjoyed the challange that the course presented and would go back to play it again and would highly recommend it everyone.
My only critisim would be that there were no facilities on the course; howver, it is early in the season and porta potties may be available later. Since this was my first time at this course I do not know if porta potties are available during the season.
Highly recommended!
Fair price, unique golf experience in Jersey City with spectacular views. Definitively worth your time and money!
Great course, beautiful kept... food offerings need work
Foamy draft beer, no snickers bars- only equally unhealthy Gatorade bars... room temperature soda, asked for ice and got about 3 tablespoons of crushed ice in bottom of huge cup.
In short BYO Food to this very nice course.
Pro Shop & Starters are very accommodating
friendly, and the temp trailer pro shop is impressively stocked for a smaller course.
Sandy Greens
They punched the greens a couple weeks ago and there was still a lot of sand on them. They rolled pretty smoothly but were just very slow due to the sand. I want to play again when the sand is gone off the greens to see how true they really are.
4:20 Tee Time
Pros;
friendly staff
average pace
course layout was good
good course condition
Cons;
Geese droppings
Improvements
Since I last played here the made a good course even better. Thy cut down the rough so less time searching for balls and they made the 8th fairway more reachable off the tee. I wish it was 18 holes.
Great Place for A Quick Nine
It is an unusual place for a golf course. The area is industrial. It is just a short distance from The Pulaski Skyway. The clubhouse does not have amenities just a place to pay for golf. Once on the course it is a great links experience. Wind water and strategic bunkering pose varied threats as the three par 3s, par 4s and par 5s require skill. The course plays hard and fast. Greens were extremely fast and have large breaks which are clearly defined by undulations. A great experience
City golf at its best.
I first picked up a real club here in 1971 when it was a cruddy driving range and pitch and putt . They transformed a flat piece of land into a superb links course with teeth. If the course was around in 1995, I would never have moved to New Hampshire. The greens were true and fast. The fairways were tight and undulating. If able, I'd recommend walking over taking a cart to get the best experience. It is the first and only public access course in Jersey City and Hudson County. Easy ride from Newark Airport for a quick 9.
