A REAL GEM!
Better than i ever imagined ! As a jc resesident i played old pitch and putt and was blown away by the use od such land ! Never thought the county could / would do anything so nice ! BUT too good i found it too difficult for the average golfer and even with a 9 handicap I found it difficult to keep it on the fairways ( lost 5 balls ) ( down tge middle) priced a little high but i def recomend a friend ! Great job County execitive Degiese!
Great course layout at Skyway Golf Course
I was able to get a tee time for $20 with a cart 3PM on 7-25-15.
This course has blown my expectations. Now the only negative was pace of play due to high demand. It took about 2 hours and 50 minutes to play this course. I will probably play in the weekday mornings to avoid the peak demand time. My playing partners wanted to play the black tees and i held my own. Hit a 294 yard drive on #8. Just make sure to have your B game since bad shots will hurt your game(fescue). We have a gem in Jersey city folks please take care of the greens.
Nice 9 hole course, but very slooooow!
This is the 3rd time I've played Skyway, and I find the course fairly challenging, but the level of players on this course tend be mostly beginners or very inexperienced golfers. We waited on EVERY shot during the 9 holes and it took 2:45 to play--that's insane! I was paired with 3 nice guys, but one guy had NEVER played on a golf course (he said he's hit balls on a driving range, but I saw no evidence that he knew which end of the club was up). I highly suggest that the course cut down a lot of the long fescue, because most of these golfers will NEVER give up looking for a golf ball that they will NEVER find. The rangers have to do something to push play along faster, and the course needs to encourage (insist) that all new golfer (male or female) play from the most forward tees.
Hidden Jewel
Wow!!! Buddy invited me to check out JC's newest addition and they got it right! Awesome backdrop on a challenging course. Felt like we were in Scotland -not a tree to be found and target golf as the rough (fescue) will swallow your ball if you miss the fairway. Both greens and fairways have undulations and the wind can kick up to throw another curve at you...staff was friendly and it was a great experience and I plan on visiting again soon...
Finally
I played skyway for first time today. It was a virtually surreal experience. Having worked 2 summers there in 1974 and '75, I remember what this place looked like. It is now a beautiful, thoughtful, challenging golf course. The first nine there was barely a 4mph wind, by the second it was 10-12 w a gust or two. The course is so well designed, that the second nine played very differently , and I used different clubs on every hole. I could not be happier that the next generation of Hudson County golfers get to learn the greatest game at this awesome place.
Good city course
Fun and interesting course. Long from the tips. Course is in good condition. No driving range or warm up nets, just a putting green. Premium for accuracy off the tee.
Great backyard course
This course is 7 minutes from my front door.. I'm very excited to have such a nice course sitting in my backyard. However, although the backdrop and scenery is dramatic (WTC/Ny/historic Jersey City/Newark and Bayonne industrial remenants) don't let this relax you or you WILL lose alot of balls! The fairways are narrow and fescue is everywhere.. And it has arms that will find and hide your ball if you're not a straight shooter. The greens are wel cared for and fairways in great shape, USE EM ! the course plays long from the tips and with the space they had, they had to make it tough.. And it is, but it's a great setup and if you're looking for a challenge with a great backdrop, skyway is it. I waked this but will stick to a cart next time. Lotta up/down action. Overall, I say A+ to the city for finally setting this up !!
New Jersey's Newest
New Jersey's newest public course. Kudos to Hudson County and Jersey City for their first Public course. Course was in good condition for being so new. Very large undulating greens. Mounds framing each fairway created difficulty if your ball is off line. Balls are hard to find because of the very deep rough. The mounding also created some blind shots. Keep em straight!
Scenic Course
Course was in excellent condition and provided you with top views of the surrounding area. The majority of the holes you may be better off hitting a long iron, wood, or hybrid, rather than hitting driver. Tight course but a really great day of golf!
