My playing partner. 80 years old and still nailing his drives! Photo submitted by JettSpot on 07/11/2017
A real gem
First time playing the Norman course, a little hesitant, due to upcoming PGA event and getting course ready, only downside is cartpath only and the huge bleacher set up on 18, still an amazing track, greens and tee boxes were pristine, having the mandatory caddie definitely an asset for a first timer. They are also letting the rough grow out, so can be some fluffy lies where you may tend to come under the ball and duff it, all good. From what I could see the other 18 Nayar looked not bad. Allow plenty of time before ur tee time, lots of shuttling between pro shop and practice facility. I also drove there and is limited parking most people I gather get dropped off, give it a go!
prepare play 5-6 hours if you want to finish 18 holes
We stayed in the PV hotel zone, first took a half hour taxi arriving the resort check in building, they scanned our bags there. Waiting a shuttle for 10 minutes and another 5 minutes driving to Proshop, the resort is huge, they shuttle picked another two players. We then spent another 10 minutes checking in and meeting our caddie before heading to the driving range. Drove 5 minutes arrive the driving range. practiced 5 minutes on mat. They called us goto first Tee, drove 5 minutes arrived the first Tee. The Vidanta resort is too too big, very easy to lost without a caddie. Course is beautiful, but pace of playing is horrible. The cart path only rule made it even worse, we had to wait on every shot. The group before us quit after 4.5 hours to catch up their flight. We finished the round 5 hours 15 minutes. Spend another 20 minutes to go back to the proshop and took a shuttle back to the Taxi pick up point, lined up another 10 minutes get the taxi. We stuck in the rush hour traffic for 45minutes on the way back to our hotel. Yes, about 8 hours in total.
Good course but……
The golf course itself is fine but it is a pain for resort offsite people to play. First of all the map that GN gives is wrong so we ended up having to take 25 min to get there instead of the 5 min the GN app showed. Then when you get there it takes a good 45 min before you are actually on the first tee due to the long shuttle ride from the car park to the proshop, another long shuttle to the driving range and another long ride to the first tea, plus waiting for the mandatory caddie to show up. In the end we teed off an hour later than planned and barely made it in before dark. Then when we tried to get an Uber to head home they said Ubers aren’t allowed to pick up on the property. All in all a frustrating overall experience. Won’t be back.
PGA Ready
This course was in great condition as they prepare for the Mexican Open on 2/19. We played the whites (6,200 yards) so it was moderately difficult, further back the more the challenge and the more water comes into play. Great afternoon price. You must have a caddy for an additional $40 for two who rides on the back of your cart. Well worth it. Arrive early as the Vindanta complex is like disneyland and they take you from checkin by cart to the pro shop and then another 10 minutes to get to the tee.
A wonderful experience!
My 2 gal friends and myself thoroughly enjoyed our play time at -Vidanta - Greg Norman course. Our caddie was wonderful. It is such a huge facility you absolutely need a caddie. They are getting ready for the Mexican Open next month and it shows. I highly recommend this course!!
Bonus round
Be cautious as there are 2 courses at this site, the starter put me on the wrong course, but the staff game me another complimentary round on the Norman Course, which is much nicer. I shot well so my experience was fabulous (2 over par)😊🏌🏻♂️
Great course for $86USD, not $270USD
Great course, difficult to read greens but quite challenging. Fairways were impeccable, greens in perfect conditions. They were making some adjustments for the PGA Tour next month so there was a bit of works but nothing that would annoy play. Lots of water into play, great experience. Not sure I’d pay full price though.
Beautiful Course
This course was beautiful. The conditions were pristine, the greens rolled pure and no burnt out spots anywhere. They were preparing the course for the Mexico Open so the rough was very long which was fun to play out of rough like that. Our caddy we had has great 5 stars to Willy. This golf course wasn't just good for the price point it was great all around. But only paying $125 USD does help.
a huge hassle just to get to the first tee
way too much of a hassle to get to the first tee. Trains, planes , and automobiles. You need to streamiline the process big time
Not worth the headache
It takes at least an hour to actually get to the course itself once you enter the facility. They make you take multiple places as part of the check in process and require you give them your drivers license when you enter. Place is a total joke if you are a real golfer. Also did I mention the round took 5+ hours and they did nothing to try to help
Very poorly run and disorganized
Made a tee time for 3 people at 2pm, expecting to finish as it doesn’t get dark until ~645. Upon arriving they made us wait on the range for an hour and we didn’t tee off until 2:48. 48 minutes late! How are you possibly that backed up? We waited on every single shot and decided to walk off after playing 10 holes in 3 hours. This is too bad because there is a mandatory caddy fee and the course was actually in good condition.
Excellent course, caddy is mandatory but well worth it
Never in doubt. Absolutely worth it.
After playing Nayar the day before, I had a feeling that the Norman course would be even better being a PGA tour stop. We got a deal time for $94US each and it definitely far exceeded our expectations. This course was a little more challenging. Longer holes and more water to get in your head. Some well placed bunkers and big trees in some fairways to make it tougher. Immaculate fairways so good that I felt bad about taking divots. Greens ran fast! Our caddy Gabriel shaved at least 5 strokes off my game with great course management on club selection and he read the greens perfectly. I never 3 putted the entire round. I saw some other posts that were nonsense. Beer is not $15US each. We got 5 Corona cans off the beer cart for 360 pesos so that works out to about $6 CDN each. Also, the airplanes do fly by on occasion but if they bother you that much you probably shouldn't play golf if you get rattled that easy. Saw a 10-12 foot crocodile on 16. Sorry, no picture. I decided I want to keep my leg.
Had similar problem, we waited 45 minutes for a shuttle from the taxi drop off to get to the pro shop, left us only 20min to get checked in and use the range. There was THREE (3) groups on the every tee waiting....6 hour round. We finished in the dark and it was the worst round because of the wait everywhere AND NO FOOD available (for a 6 hour round)....Incredible lack of service for $270 round....I'd rather play Vista Vallarta for less than 1/2 the price and better service, course, carts, range, etc....
