A gem
This was the first time playing this renovated course. I didn't know what I was missing. The staff and the amenities were top notch. Very friendly and genuine. The playing condition of the course was outstanding aside from typical divots in the fairways. Bunkers had real sand and there were workers on the course making sure they were raked throughout the day. As advertised, the greens were difficult. Pin placement at times seemed unfair but challenge is good. The only negative is the lack of distance measurements throughout the course. My GPS had failed me and I was lost. If you have one you're good. If there can be an investment, it could be in newer carts with GPS.
Overall this is the best public course in the metro area and I've golfed all of them.
Way to go Royal Golf Club to everyone that works there!
Well maintained course
Course is beautiful and well maintained. One of the Best courses in Minnesota
The most overrated course in the east metro
I am a huge Arnie fanboy and I think Annika is one of the all time best. That being said...what the heck were you thinking when this was being designed? You had an open checkbook and could do anything you wanted and this is what you came up with.
Its just dumb and I can actually forgive 90% of the course design but the greens are ridiculous. It makes it not fun. There is not a flat spot out there. This will be a reference only locals will understand but the greens are similar to how Mississippi Dunes was only worse. I hate to keep railing on the greens but they just are terrible. I've been lucky enough to play on many courses the pros play on and they aren't like this, nothing is, it's like playing at a crappy putt putt course only missing a windmill and a clowns mouth to hit through. I never write reviews and disliked it last year when I played but after this year I had to say something. The staff A+, the club house A, the course, C, the greens, D. Go play Troy Burne, or if you cant get on play Prestwick, heck play Stoneridge if you have to but skip the Royal, it isn't worth it at half the price.
Top MN course!
Always great to play here. Challenging but fair course. Great condition, friendly staff
Tartan Park was better
The greens and fairways were in good shape, the rough was not. It's a target golf course, it takes driver out of your hand a lot. Hardly any distance markers, the carts were 20 years old. Over-priced.
The royal
Fantastic course, beautiful all around. If you’re a beginner this course may not be for you, it’s much more difficult than I anticipated but it was still a blast
Great course & Great Employees
The course can be quite challenging with many water holes, some elevation changes & very undulating greens! Course upkeep was excellent. Probably the friendliest group of employees that I have encountered at a course in the Twin Cities!!
Not to good of a day
Course was in good shape, First time playing the new lay-out of the course. Our gps was not up dated for this layout. Was told that there were a lot of yard marker on the fairways. Yardage marking were very hard to find and overgrown with grass covering them. Only 150 yard colored stakes to center of green. No 200 or 100 stakes. Made for a long day trying to guess the right yardage to pins. Also very slow play, 4hrs 40mins. waited on every shot. Will give this course another try with our updated gps's . Does need better yardage markers.
Wonderful course under great conditions
Played 1-9 in 90 minutes and every hole was picture perfect and conditions were pristine.
Back nine became an issue as pro decided to make back nine the starting nine after we teed off. Made the turn and had to wait over and over as a twosome in a cart decided to make the back nine 2 1/2 hours of waiting for one muscle head to do multiple practice swings, line up putts from multiple angles, and miss every fairway and green.
Luckily back nine is the boring nine and I won the betting three ways.
Didn’t charge Golfnow price
They are still charging there full green fee and not the GolfNow rate. Other than that everything was awesome very challenging greens
Over-rated
I was excited to play this course but surprised to find it’s just chaos all around. I prepaid online due to playing during coronavirus timing. However I didn’t know carts weren’t included in price...fine paid those inside. One guy in group was on the range already and paid himself so we paid for 5 people to have carts - you would think the pro shop would have known. Range balls aren’t included - fine but desk should have asked and didn’t so I went back in and had another transaction. The starter guy didn’t have much of a clue and no communication with pro shop. Carts all over the place so hard to get from 13 green to 14 tee. Course Has a LOT of blind shots. However they have no pictures of holes on tee box yardage signs and no GPS (really, $80-100 a round a no GPS)??? Greens are in great shape but way to many slopes and mounds. Miss a putt and it could run off the green by 20 yards. Good pace of play but it was a Thursday. I can only imagine how slow a round would be on the weekends! I will not return here as there are 3-4 courses in the same price range just within 10 miles of this place that are WAY better!
Fantastic Course....and only getting better
Great course design by Arnold Palmer and Annika Sorenstam. Fantastic layout that requires you to think when you tee-off. The back-nine finishes with two par 5s and has a couple short part 4s that allow you to score. Course is good walk. The greens improved significantly throughout the year. As a recently new course they've kept the greens longer as they start to take. By year end....the greens were fantastic.
Fantastic Course
Absolutely love Royal Golf Club. Conditions are excellent and the staff is incredible. Bit of slow play yesterday but otherwise had a great round of golf. Pins were in what seemed to be "Sunday Final" positions, as I've never seen them in such tough spots. Made for a challenging round of golf but it was still golf at Royal.
Upper class layout and facilities
First time playing course conditions were good pace of play was slow mainly because of greens, you couldn’t see layout of greens from fairway to know where to land ball. Greens have severe breaks and roll offs. Some hole locations are impossible to get a ball within a 8 foot area from some points. I don’t think l will play here again.
