Course was in good condition, owner was very nice to allow play after normal hours(end of day tee time ). 3 hour round.

Skunk is a great course. It makes you think about your shot but will punish you if you get greedy or miss a shot. No hole is the same. Fairways are lined with trees so you have to keep your machenics down or you will be donating some golf balls. Rick is the man and is great about answering questions. Love the skunk!

Play here all the time and really enjoy it. The Pro, Rick is great. With the exception of the 15th hole (river was flooding into the lower fairway), the course was in good condition despite lots of rain.

The greens were true and fairly fast the way they should be. This course calls for good shots which will make you play within your abilities. You can't go wrong playing here Skungamaug.

The course was in rough spring time shape. Greens were very good and with the GN hot deal the price was excellent.

Fun course to play with some unique holes, recommend this course for the not snob player

Great weather and is always the case in the New England fall stay on the fairways or lose balls t5o the leaves. My partner donated a few. The rough is getting thicker and high, but really the course is in good all things considered.

I was up in that area visiting, so I decided to play on a Saturday afternoon. Course was pretty good condition.

Course doesn't play long. Big hitters that spray the ball may wanna leave the driver in the bag. It has a lot of target golf holes that made it a different round of golf then usual. The course was in good shape. Small greens but we'll kept. I probably wouldn't mAke the trip bAck to play unless I was in the area.

I enjoyed my round. the people I encountered were very nice.

Don't expect to use your driver on many holes.this is a very short course, very narrow, very hilly. the greens were in excellent condition. a good value.

Skungamaug River Golf Course is tucked away in the Coventry woods about 10 miles east of Hartford. It features a variety of tree-lined holes with brooks, small ponds, big elevation changes, and some funky holes thrown in to make it interesting. It is also reasonably priced. On Monday you can can play for $30 between 9am and 1pm, with a cart.

I've played this course frequently and yesterday I took advantage of the "free round on your birthday pass" where I paid just $10 for a cart. The pro shop staff was very friendly and accommodating by getting us out just after a scrambles event. Our round took only 3.5 hours.

The course is not long: 5785 (back), 5624 (white) and 4427 (red) but the fairways are tight, water comes into play on many holes and there are significant elevation changes , especially on the back nine. All the greens are smallish but not tricky. Accuracy, good course management and course knowledge is very important. There are also many blind shots, like the par four 6th, where an small pond guards the green and the 1st hole where a brook crosses the fairway about 200 yards out.

The most challenging hole, I found, is the par four 15th. At 302 yards (from the back tees) you might think "birdie hole" coming up, that is until you see it. From an elevated tee you stare down a very narrow "fairway" with a big tree growing on a ledge, in the middle. To the left of the tree is a steep, grassy hill. To the right and twenty feet below the tree is a small landing area with a brook running down the right side. This hole will make you think. Can you thread the narrow gap to the left of the tree or should you layup to the right below the tree without seeing your ball go swimming? Think seriously about using a "water ball" on this hole.

I would have given this course a 3.5 rating except for the bumpy cart paths and fairways, which are both especially apparent with a cart. The cart paths are dirt and gravel that need tons of gravel and grading. The fairways could be smoothed out a bit.

Anyway, this is a fun course where you can score good, even if you are not a long hitter as long as you keep it straight.

Cool little course but unfortunately it's built on a swamp. Soil moisture and casual water on fairways is often an issue. The course is very short and the holes are not particularly challenging if you are in the fairway. The rough is pretty unkempt and takes serious skill not to lose strokes if that's where you find yourself. If you hit into the woods anywhere, it's usually not even worth it to look for your ball.

If you keep everything in the fairways the course is fun, otherwise the rough, mud, and veggies will drive you crazy.

The best part about this course is the twilight special... for $10 you tee off after 5:30 and play until dark. With few people around, you could easily finish 15+ holes if you hustle.
