Seen better days
Haven't played here in a while. Greens are in great shape but that's about it. Fairways are ok but not mowed or maintained well. 8th hole is now a short par 4, used to be a nice 5, not sure why anyone would shorten a course. Tee boxes forget it, half of them are nothing but dirt, looks like they don't bother moving tee markers at all. $80 is a joke, wouldn't be worth it for half that price.
Rate of Play…
3 hours to finish 11 holes was all we could take. At $80/round they could get a marshall out there to keep it moving. Great layout, but tee-boxes were in rough shape.
Nice course, very slow play
Played here twice. Pace of play both times was an issue. Waiting on nearly every shot. Backlogs at the tee boxes.
First Time in 10 Years
My friend and I are not very good golfers but we enjoy playing golf when we can.
The staff was very courteous and friendly.
However the group behind us on the first tee threatened us that they would hit into us if we were slow.
I wish the starter had been around.
For the first three holes we felt rushed.
But after that they never bothered us.
The condition of the course wasn't as good as the one we played last week.

Overall
Played here first in 2021 expecting a challenging hilly course with lots of trouble. Found this place to be absolutely fantastic. It’s honestly a very forgiving course and very easy to score low. Tons of room off the tees and very welcoming fairways in great condition. Greens are a little slower overall but roll extremely true and no extreme breaks. I really enjoy these greens. I enjoy the layout overall tremendously and enjoy the entire course. Except for poor old hole 17 that they decided to cut in half into a par 4 that is a stain on the course IMO but it is what it is. My guess is they cut it down to shorten the course for people. I hope it goes back to par 5. Great course highly recommend currently top 3 for me in Fairfield county with richter and ridge field but I have yet to play sterling.
Excellent late summer condition
Whitney is a course that is challenging for every player. They have made some great changes to fairways and cleaned up rough patches around the course. The greens are challenging but fun. Will play this course over all others in the area every time.
don't waste your time
scheduled an afternoon tee time for 8/21. got there a half hour before, and when i checked in with the starter there ended up being 4 groups waiting to tee off since they were so backed up (which the starter didn't share when i checked in with him, i figured that out by talking to everyone else that was waiting).
ended up going off the back 9 and was behind a group of 4 who were extremely slow and left cigarette butts still lit at half of the tee boxes.
the group of 4 behind us were loud, drunk, and hit into us 5 or 6 times.
there were 3 groups ahead of us at the 9th waiting to tee off. a ranger was nowhere to be found the whole time.
i've played here 3 or 4 times now- the first time i played, the greens had just been aerated and were covered in sand. this, nor the fact that only the front 9 was open that day, was not shared at check-in. this place is a mess on the weekends and way overpriced for the experience you get. i will not be returning after this experience.
Always good
For a Public course this is always satisfying to play. Good atmosphere, scenery, and great greens, can’t beat it!

I haven’t played the course in a number of years but found the course to be in excellent shape. Very pleased with the course and the staff.
