About
Wheeler Family Traditions Golf Club (formerly known as The Tradition Golf Club at Wallingford) is one of the most affordable rounds in the area and it has received praise as one of the best golf courses in Connecticut. The par-70 layout is player friendly enough for beginners but low handicappers will also find it to be a fun round. The holes are fairly straightforward though there are some fairways that have very narrow landing areas that will test the accuracy of even the best golfers. Numerous bunkers are strategically placed along the undulating greens and water also comes into play on the occasional hole. The golf course starts out gently but becomes progressively more challenging on the back nine. The most memorable hole on the golf course, the par-3 12th, is a water hole that features an intimidating island green.

Challenging golf course
I always enjoy playing Traditions golf course even though I never score that well. Every hole has a unique layout. Greens and fairways are excellent. Rough is thicker than average. Sand traps are very good and well maintained. Staff in golf shop are very friendly. Carts are newer gas models with plush seats and have digital range finders. Food was delicious and service was great.
Course was playing longer
They had had a lot of rain so the course was quite wet and lots of cart path only holes but I really enjoy this course because every hole is a challenge.
Great Shape, Fun Holes
The course is in great shape and it’s a good combination of holes with a little forgiveness, to challenging holes that you need to be precise on every shot. I do miss the old18th green but the new green is also a challenge. Staff and great and bar area is also really good. Highly recommend!!!
Fun fun fun
If you can snag an early tee time, it can be a three hour or 3 1/2 hour round

Beware the bobcat at the island green hole
The group in front of our foursome was very slow. They had open holes in front of them and every group behind them had to wait on every hole. Pace of play was awful. Tee off at 8:16 finished at 12:34. No drinking water on the course except at the clubhouse so the last nine holes there was nothing to drink..
Nice round
First off at 7:30 with another non member. Everything was great. Local knowledge needed a bit of some blind tee shots. Greens good.
Great day on the course !
Started out with a nice interaction at the the pro shop. Course was in phenomenal shape. Played 18 holes in 4 1/4 hours on a Sunday !!!!!

Wonderful Day of Golf
Have a great day of golf last Thursday on 9/12/24. The weather was great and the course was in great shape. The greens were aerated recently, so the greens were a little bumpy. I know this must be done so I'm ok with it.
Good golf good food
Course was in great shape - except greens- which
must have just been irrigated- more sand than the traps…
Carts way too over sensitive when leaving cart path - constantly locking

It is a great course but not an easy one. I like the changes they have made to it although cart paths need some serious work. I have always enjoyed this course. Play was slow because there seemed to have been an issue with time slots.
Course in great shape
We were delayed getting off but that has not been typical. Course had taken a lot of rain so it was wet and muddy in some parts. Have always liked this course. Only negative is they need to put some work into the cart paths.
