Windham Golf Course
About
Windham Golf Course is tucked away in Connecticut's northeast corner, enjoying a classic New England setting. Formerly known as Willimantic C.C. and The University Club of Connecticut, the original nine holes opened in 1922 and the championship golf course that exists now was completed in the 1960s. Like many of the golf courses built during that time, The Windham Golf Course's greens are smaller than on modern golf courses and they are subtly contoured. The traditional layout also features narrow fairways lined with mature oak trees and there are three that are bordered by natural spring ponds. Bunkers are strategically placed on 15 holes. The front nine provides some scoring opportunities, which you'll need before facing the tougher back nine.

Hole 13, par-4, 347 yards: A look at the green on one of the new holes. Tee to green, the hole is a solid drive-and-pitch affair. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/22/2024

Fourteen, par-4, 251. About as short as a par-4 gets, but attempts to drive the green are dangerous. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/22/2024

Fifteen: This 506-yard par-5, still unchanged after the changes, remains a classic golf hole. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/22/2024

1st Hole, 393, par-4. Great opener that starts from a high tee, then crosses a rolling fairway to its green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/10/2021

Fourteen from the side. Par-3, 170. The elevated, double-bunkered green means a challenge from the tee--and another if you miss it in regulation. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/10/2021

course going in the right direction
This is a good course that had been let go but now appears to be going in the right direction
They let people start on #10
I play this course because it is conveniently close to my home. They are doing a lot of work to spruce it up but thee is a LOT of ground under repair. That's OK because I knowingly accepted that up front. Pace of play was great on the front nine. Arrived at #10 in 1 hr 50 mins only to find that they were letting people start on #10 so we had to wait for the group that cut in front of us. This is the second time I have experienced this at Windham and I find it unacceptable.
Avoid this course
they are trying to renovate the course so there are temp tee boxes the condition of the fairways are terrible from equipment running over them. If I knew it was in this condition I wouldn't have played there. The kicker is that they are asking full price. $55.00 to play 18 holes. That's crazy for the condition it's in.
GREAT VALUE,UNDER MAJOR OVERHAUL
TEE TO GREEN THE COURSE IS OK AND PLAYABLE,.SEEMS EVERY HOLE THERE IS SOME WORK BEING DONE OFF FAIRWAY,BEHIND TEES AND GREEN..ABSENCSE OF YARDAGE MARKERS, TEE BOX AND TEE SIGNS CONFUSING,17TH HOLE TEES OFF OVER ROAD...WATCH FOR CARS YOU WILL TAKE OUT THE GLASS.WITH ALL THIS BEING SAID ITS GOOD TO SEE ALL THE WORK BEING DONE .STAFF WAS FRIENDLY AND WELCOMING.THE COURSE IS VERY PLAYABLE BUT CONSTRUCTION EVERY WHERE EXCEPT TEE TO GREEN..GIVE THIS PLACE A TRY,GREAT DECK ,RESTAURANT,BAR IT WILL BE BACK TO A GREAT COURSE BY END OF YEAR,
Fun woodland course with local feel.
Played here en route to Foxwoods casino. Lucked out with some 50 degree weather in late Dec. The course was packed with regulars around 10am, I was able to tee off around 11:30. The course is doing loads of construction both on the grounds as well as to the men's locker room. It's a quirky, short course but offers loads of different looks and hole types. The 16th hole (downhill 200 yd par 3) felt kind of squeezed in and some holes came into contact with the nearby roadway but otherwise nothing to complain about. Greens were actually fantastic for this late in the year. Would definitely return here again on my next casino trip. Rate is a bit high at $50 to ride (especially in off season) but the course was a great value at $30 hot deal.
Disappointing
When this course was taken over by new management I had high hopes. Unfortunately the course isn't much better than it was last year. Also the staff was uninformed. I'll think twice about playing here again.
Unique layout
Had a stellar day with my 21 year old son! I kind of fell in love with this course in spite of all the construction going on there. It is under new ownership and they are pouring a ton of money into the course and wisely, I would say. The course is over 90 years old and has the maturity of a course its age with mature trees and course architecture. It's a very forgiving course for the low to mid handicapper, (I shot a 83 first time out), and I found the greens to be very, very true even though aerated in the past 3-4 weeks. Staff is very friendly and the Thai chicken wings are to die for. I can't wait to go back with my son who is at UCONN. When the new owner is through spending what is obviously a ton of dough, this little course is going to be a unique little gem!
bumpy greens
I like (and need) the nice wide fairways which were in excellent condition.the only bad part was that some of the greens were bumpy, other than that I enjoyed playing the course and the bumpy greens are the the only reason at this time that I would not recommend the course.
much improved
New owners have made some great improvements all around: greens, bunkers, fairways, tee boxes. Trimmed backed trees that used to hang over the fairways. Changed the order of the holes. #3 is not #18 for example. Didn't have time to visit the restaurant, but I personally know the carpenter and he does great work. I will return.
WORK IN PROGRESS
The course is under new management and they are upgrading the fairways and clubhouse. Holes are clearly marked and fairways nice and wide. Wasn't too sure as where the cart drop was after playing 18. It is not marked.
Windham
got a great deal - course was in good shape, not great, a little dry & some of the tee-boxes need grass & water. greens were in good shape. course was layed out well - everything is right in front of you.
Solid course
They have changed it a bit and it is getting much nicer. I was just annoyed by sprinklers being on as we were approaching greens but other than that I paid 25 and would definitely do it again.
course os getting better
they are asking way to much play. if they go down on their price they will get more players 62 for weekend play way too much. 50 at most for weekend play otherwise they will stay dead
WORK IN PROGRESS
COURSE UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. A LOT OF WORK BEING DONE ON THE COURSE AND CLUBHOUSE. BUNKERS HAVE BEEN GREATLY IMPROVED. COURSE IS IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE WITH POOR AREAS BEING ADDRESSED. STILL A FUN PLAY WITH A GOOD MIX OF HOLES.
Windam GC 22Jul2014
Greens and fairways in great condition. Rough had many bare areas and overall was cut too low to be a problem for the accomplished player.
Green grass
New owner sending money on club house lol instead of course. Course in Ok shape for late July it was Green!!!
Windham club golf now
It was my first time using golf now.. Ended up saving 7$ Per person and I got to use a cart . I usually walk. 18 holes for 25$. Good course would play again and I will searching golf now for more good deals
Good course
Course length was short from championship tees. Course played well, but pace of play was slow.
Beautiful day
The course was in great shape, greens were very smooth and the ball rolled nicely. Fairways well maintained, rough was spotty (bare spots, and clumpy grass). Light winds, but a perfect golf day--will be back!
great value
Greens were in great shape. The course layout is a little strange. It's hard to find the next hole sometimes.
