Windham Golf Course
About
Windham Golf Course is tucked away in Connecticut's northeast corner, enjoying a classic New England setting. Formerly known as Willimantic C.C. and The University Club of Connecticut, the original nine holes opened in 1922 and the championship golf course that exists now was completed in the 1960s. Like many of the golf courses built during that time, The Windham Golf Course's greens are smaller than on modern golf courses and they are subtly contoured. The traditional layout also features narrow fairways lined with mature oak trees and there are three that are bordered by natural spring ponds. Bunkers are strategically placed on 15 holes. The front nine provides some scoring opportunities, which you'll need before facing the tougher back nine.

Hole 13, par-4, 347 yards: A look at the green on one of the new holes. Tee to green, the hole is a solid drive-and-pitch affair. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/22/2024

Fourteen, par-4, 251. About as short as a par-4 gets, but attempts to drive the green are dangerous. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/22/2024

Fifteen: This 506-yard par-5, still unchanged after the changes, remains a classic golf hole. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/22/2024

I can’t help but like the twelfth, a short par-4 that plays tough. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/06/2022

1st Hole, 393, par-4. Great opener that starts from a high tee, then crosses a rolling fairway to its green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/10/2021

The twelfth. A short par-4 where you’ll cross this serene pond on the pitch. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/10/2021

Fourteen from the side. Par-3, 170. The elevated, double-bunkered green means a challenge from the tee--and another if you miss it in regulation. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/10/2021

Good course
Well maintained. Convenient access. Post-game restaurants in Willimantic.
Nice Layout
Course has a nice layout, however, as soon as you pull in, you notice the lack of upkeep of the grounds and club house. The pro shop is terrible with no products and hasn't been updated in years. The course needs a lot of attention. We were all surprised by the overall condition. We tried it cause of the special pricing, but we wouldn't play it again.
The course was having 2 for 1 price that was lower the golfnow, however they would not give us the lower rate.
Like I said above, the course was having a 2 for 1 price, however they would not give us the lower price. It was about $5.00 each, but every little bit helps.
Good course, could be a great course!
I have played this course several times in the past year, and found it to be in fair shape. If the owners spent some money on it, it could be a great course. Unfortunately it is far away from most towns. I drive 50 minutes to get there. I like the set up of the course, the employees are friendly, the beer cold and the food in the bar tasty! I use Golfnow.com for my tee times and always get a good rate, between $15 and $30 for 18 holes includes a cart. They got some newer carts this year and they run great!
Had a great time completed the round in four hours on a Sunday at noon time
We had a great time the course was in great shape. Completed our 18-hole round on a Sunday starting at noon time in four hours. No pressure from behind no hold up from ahead.
fun course
Fun course but some maintenance difficulties. holes 1&3 over road with passing cars a little unnerving
Bargain
The previous 2 times I play this course it was in bad shape. Ball marks, sand traps not raked, and not a good value for the money. Course is in great shape (weather has helped) and I was looking to just beat the ball around for practice. I will give them my repeat business this year.
A real disappointment!!
I played golf for UCONN in the mid 70's and had not been back to what was previously Willimantic CC in years. I was looking forward to it when I saw a great deal on GolfNow. I am sorry to say the place was a complete disaster and as bad as the conditions were the person behind the counter, Tom V., was even worse. I think if I ever get another chance to play this course I will schedule a colonoscopy instead, much more fun!!
Good for the price
A decent short course for the price. No ball washers on the course which is not good. Besides that I'll play there again.
Greens in good shape, Tee boxes could use some work
Considering its April and still early the greens were in very decent shape but the tee boxes were sometimes in even and torn up. Fairways, again were in decent shape this time of year. Been there during the summer as well and it's kept in good shape. Overall Ill be going back.
First 9 holes need a lot of attention
Disappointed with conditions no money has been spent to better the course since new owners
Great day
Course is very easy to get to. Staff was friendly and helpful. Fun day of golf.
Good shape -early season
For the early season the course was in good shape.
Greens were smooth...cut + rolled.
Bunkers were not raked...need attention.
Wooded areas need to have old leaves and branches removed.
great day of golf
course was in great shape. green were true, fairways an tee box also maintained. even water cooler an ball washes were working!! Great value for the price
Nice course... a couple of holes that i did not like...a lot of holes i did like.
Tees a bit below average....fairway and greens above average.... the par 4s seemed to be easy or hard for the majority....meaning either <300 or >410....
I would play it again,,,,for sure
not what it used to be
The course conditions have gone downhill over the years. It looks like they do just enough to keep the place playable
Excellent Value - Average Course - Would Play Again & have
Pluses were; Excellent value for the money, good speed of play, most holes were interesting, par fives I enjoyed, short par 4's had charactor ie over water or a protecting tree. Greens were average and course condition average.
Minuses were: some bugs, some wet spots, hitting across the road with moving traffic twice is dangerous for the motorists, some greens are undefended by bunkers etc.
Great value
I got a great deal on Golfnow.com for this course, and enjoyed playing there. The only negative was pace of play. I quit after four hours as I was only able to complete 13 holes. A ranger to keep people moving would be a big help.
