West at White Pines Golf Course
About
Situated just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago, White Pines Golf Club has been a popular spot for both locals and visitors. The club offers two courses, the East and the West. The West Course is longer than the East by 400 yards and considered slightly more challenging. The layout is relatively tight and there is an abundance of trees, which means you'll need to be accurate to do well. The greens are large and challenging with difficult-to-read breaks. There is also minimal, but strategic bunkering along the greensides. The fairways provide plenty of variety with some that are narrow and heavily tree-lined and others that are wide with no trees in sight. The golf course has several challenging holes but it's forgiving enough for beginners to approach with confidence.

Great course...good price
The course was in excellent shape. The trees have grown from when I used to play here as a kid. So the course is more challenging if you don't hit them straight. The pace of play was good we finished in just under 4 hours. My group will be back again soon.
Had a great time. We even played a few extra holes we enjoyed the course so much!
Decent value
If you can get a tee time for under $45, book it. Moderately challenging course with lots of trees lining the fairways, if you hook or slice, plan on adding some strokes to your score. Greens are okay, and the beer girl is on top of her game, she found us on every third hole.
Friday Twilight
We enjoyed our twilight golfing at White Pines. We were booked on the West course but when we checked in at the pro shop we were given the option to play the east so we wouldn't be held up by a local high school team that was holding a practice round on the west. We played the east and really enjoyed it. Very friendly staff and the course is challenging for all levels of golfers.
Good bang for the buck
This course was in good shape overall with great greens. Fairways are tree-lined and narrow so straight drives essential. Minor point but cart paths are gravel and are pathetically bumpy. Horrible.
Play was somewhat slow and never saw ranger.
Unfriendly soggy course
Granted......it was a fairly rainy week but today was dry. The sand traps were wet and soggy, the course in general was soggy as it always is with any rain. Do not plan on playing here if there was any rain within a few days earlier. It doesn't drain well. We had to keep our carts on the cart path but they were like driving on flooded potholes. Raise and fix the cart paths or fix the drainage.....or both. I will not be returning.
Slow Play
It was a Friday afternoon round and i knew it was going to be crowed but when i saw a Grandpa with his 2 grandkids on one cart they held up the whole course then i saw a 3 people on one cart with one set of clubs i had enough so i saw the starter at the turn and told him, i shouldn't of wasted my breath.
Be on Target
Overall review of the course was good, However the sand buncker could use a lot more sand. I've pladed here before and it's always been a great challenge for me which is a good thing.
Very long round.
I was really impressed by the shape of the course. It was really setup for a fun and challenging 18 holes.
My friend and I teed off around 12:45 on a Saturday after being paired up with a single. We finished the round at 6:15pm in a 5some. If you golf here on a weekend, make sure its in a 4some.
Perhaps unavoidable at any course, but when I called in a few hours prior to the round to check on the pace of play, they estimated between 4 and 4 hours 15 minutes.
White Pine East
White Pine East great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr James Mckinney
My golfing experience at White Pines was great. The East Course was very challenging with very narrow fairways which made you think instead of just bombing away. The greens were in great shape and the slopes fast and the pin placement was set up to score if you reached the greens in regulation. I really enjoyed playing there and I will be coming back again soon with my friends.
White Pines experience
The staff at the curse was very professional! The course was in excellent shape. We played all 18 in just under 4 hours. We played the west course which had some difficulty while allowing some par opportunities. The beer cart girl was very nice too!
A little challenging, but I loved it
My rating may be a little biased, because it was perfect weather and I played well. I definitely would play the course again.
JB
Beautiful course. A little slow pace wise but it was a Saturday!
very nice course
Its a very nice course for $35 riding. If you spray the ball around this probably isnt your ideal place to play. Its called white pines for a reason. LOTS OF FREAKIN TREES! Staff is very friendly and course is in really good condition.
Great Greens and Fairways
Excellent starter and staff. Maintenance of course is great and easy to locate tye the ball even out of faiways.
Solid Course
Pros: Teed off before 7 AM on a weekday and completed round in less than 4 hours. Fairways in excellent shape.
Cons: A few greens still in very bad shape. Sand traps so-so. No water or beverage carts to be found.
Comments: Mature course with tree lined fairways making straight drives mandatory to score on this course. Smallish greens.
Overall a very nice experience and great value
course management issues
I booked a round for Sunday afternoon, it was extremely slow even for a Sunday. We couldn't figure out was it was dragging only to learn that that put a 5 some out it front of two twosomes. When we asked the ranger about the unfortunate situation he said he'd look into it, it was the last time we saw him the rest of the day. The course surfaces were very dry, hard and burn out on many portions of some greens. I don't believe a single sand trap had sand in them only hard packed dirt. It was not a very pleasant round of golf for those reasons listed.
Beverage - Beer Ladies
The biggest problem with many courses , is they don't get the routine of a golfer. I don't need a beer cart anywhere near the clubhouse -- Holes 1 and 2 -- and 9 -10 - 11 OR 18.... The time you need service is Holes 3 thru 8 or 12 thru 17 ... Tell these ladies to concentrate on the areas that are furthest away from the clubhouse ... We would appreciate this change and you would sell more product...
