East at White Pines Golf Course

About
White Pines Golf Club is ideally situated for both locals and visitors with a convenient location that is just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago and only 10 minutes from O'Hare International Airport. The club has two 18-hole courses, the East and the West. The East is the shorter and more player friendly of the two at 6,371 yards from the back tees. The fairways are seemingly narrow but there is some room for recovery if you have an errant shot. There aren't as many bunkers or water as on the West Course, but there is enough to provide a fun round. In addition to 36 holes of golf, White Pines G.C. also offers the Golf Dome, one of the world's largest indoor golf facilities. It features five target greens surrounded by bunkers, 50 hitting tees on two levels, and six suspended hitting targets for practicing your accuracy.

Good value
Good course in good shape. Need to work on the sand traps and cut down the greens a bit.
This coarse has been better. I still enjoy playing there. This year it seems short on groundskeepers.
Snail’s pace
The tee times are not staggered well, resulting in an extremely slow round. (Like watching a snail move across a driveway!)
The dead grass clippings left in the rough are a nice touch, adding the activity of finding your ball an extra challenge to the already slow round.
Friendly Place to Play
The staff here is very friendly. Bill Roper is a great head pro and the entire staff are great to deal with. Personally I think the West Course is a bit better but the East Course is certainly playable.
pace of play was horrible
i play this course a lot and it’s good value for your money. i also expect a slow round on sunday but this was horrible. 5.5 hours to play 18. we complained to the ranger about the group in front of us many times and they told us “there’s not much we can do”. isn’t that literally your job????
the halfway house also wasn’t open and the car girl had no food so we were basically stuck for 5.5 hours with nothing to do or eat and just hit a shot every 10 minutes or so. it was awful.
$69 for everything to be broken or gone
GPS in carts not connected to network , yet also no yardage sticks? $69 for that? I get it’s april but you’ve known about the 80 degree Sunday for a couple weeks. Waaaay too many other munis around to pay for that again. And pick up the sticks.
Really wet
Not fair to rate courses when they are saturated and CPO. Lotsa walking in standing water. But pace of play was among the worst I've ever experienced. SLOW wouldn't even explain it. If I weren't retired I would have quit! 6 hours...
More Difficult Than the Scorecard Suggests
It's a bonus to play golf in the Chicago area in February. Temps were near 60 and it was pretty windy. Given that date, the course was in surprisingly good condition. The greens rolled pretty smoothly but, as expected, the speed from green-to-green was inconsistent. The course played longer and harder that the rating and slope would suggest.
I hadn't played this course in several years. The trees have grown and there are some pretty tight landing areas. I will make it a point to get back and play this course during the summer when the leaves are back.
The staff was great and the whole experience was way above average.
