Best course in the area
A very challenging course. There are some holes you cannot miss. Plenty of elevation changes to test every game. In my opinion it is the best course in the area. Staff is great, the views are awesome, and only a few houses come in to play.

Slow Play, No Ranger
Just a loooong round. I played as a twosome and on a weekday it was a 5 hour round. There was no ranger on duty to keep pace of play moving and they didn't address the issue in spite of myself and the groups in front of and in back of us calling the clubhouse.
I also wasted an hour getting there early to hit balls at their range which is touted on the website but no longer exists. They didn't bother to remove that.
And the greens looked like the surface of the moon. I don't think anyone all day used a ball mark repair tool. All just symptoms of no oversight.
It's a pretty course but I would not go back.

No Marshall was out on the coursed informing them that that they’re handicap should’ve realised that they should’ve play the white tees.

Great course, hidden gem
Amazing layout. Greens and fairways in amazing shape. Only some tee boxes and cart paths could use some tlc but overall great and will be back!!

Horrible Pace of Play
Waited every shot. We were only 2 behind 4, but the 4 waited almost every shot too. Ridiculous, no excuse.

Still great
Getting better every week. Need a starter. We were 953 the 10 jumped ahead. Then the 945 showed up late, and insisted they go ahead. They had terrible pace. When they tried off at 18 the group in front was already in club house

The hole set ups were ridiculous....always on a down or side slope when the greens were fast as heck. For a Sunday set up with a lot of marginal players, it makes what is already a very difficult course worse. Thanks.

Excellent condition on one of the toughest courses in McHenry County
This is an update to a previous review I wrote a few years ago. The course itself has remained unchanged. The first hole eases you into the round. The second tee shot is welcoming. And then? I hope you are warmed up and ready for a challenge for the rest of the round.
The conditioning of the course is maybe the best I've ever seen it. The rough was consistent throughout the course. Fairways were in great shape. The greens were the fastest I've played this year.
Advice for playing the course: Driver isn't always the answer off the tee. Multiple holes have very narrow landing areas that are bordered by OB, hazards, or thick tree lines. Swallow your pride and hit something that you are sure will land in the fairway. If you want to bomb it, make sure you have numerous extra balls in your bag before you leave home.
The second piece of advice is to make sure you have the distances on your wedges dialed in. Most of the approach shots are unforgiving. Many require forced carries with hazards, bunkers, or false fronts short of the green.
The third piece of advice is for walkers. I pride myself on being a walker. This course is not for walking even though you'll be hard pressed to beat the walking rate anywhere else of this caliber of course. There are multiple walks with long distances from green to tee. Then there are numerous steep slopes that would be treacherous to walk with even the smallest amount of moisture on them.
Verdict: I would argue that Chalet Hills is one of the toughest courses I have ever played. Bull Valley GC gets the press for being one of the toughest courses in the state and I would say Chalet Hills is neck and neck with it as the toughest course in McHenry County, Be ready for a challenge. Soak in all of the heroic shots you pull off over the water. Enjoy putting on some great greens. I continue to recommend this course for a test of where your golf game truly stands.

Must play
The course is in phenomenal shape. Fairways getting good roll. Greens are firm but very receptive, even with longer irons. Greens also rolling very smooth and consistent!

good course pace of play a little off
Enjoyed the course, well maintained and fun. Only concern i had (and understand its a matter of timing) was pace of play. We had a group of 9 people 2 group in front, so took us over 5 hours to get round. Would recommend not having such a large group go round as it was frustrating several groups. Other than that, i enjoy this course and would come back again
