About
Malakei Golf Club wanders through a colorful landscape of indigenous flora and fauna, providing a home to a variety of wildlife including peacocks, pheasants, and wild turkey. Situated in the Kona region of Hawaii, which is widely renowned for its coffee farms, the course offers dramatic elevation changes that range from 1,800 to 2,850 feet. The golf course plays through lush forests accented with lava tubes, cinder cones, and an ancient stone wall that dates back over a century. The fast bentgrass greens, rolling fairways, and cooler climate are reminiscent of a course in northern California but the stunning panoramic views will definitely remind you that you are in Hawaii. Malakei Golf Club's 15h hole is a signature hole thanks to its memorable scenery. It not only offers an incredible view of Maui's 10,000-foot Mount Haleakala, it is also your best chance for a hole in one.

Nothing fancy, and affordable A bit run down, but affordable gold in Hawaii.
Makalei
For a mountainside course the layout is perfect and very beautiful. Lots of blind greens and blind landing areas make it very tricky. Greens and bunkers are in need of some TLC but hey, it’s not Augusta. It’s so quirky and delightful you’ll forget about any shortcomings.
Always loved this course while visiting Kona. All of the employees are delightful but sadly the course is in need of major TLC.
Definitely Play this Course!
The club house and the golf carts are not new...so what! This course is simply amazing! The tee boxes were neat and in excellent condition. The fairways were green and cut well. The greens were in perfect condition. The views from the mountains looking down to the ocean were incredible. I Teed off at 7:30 am and never saw another group in front or behind me all morning, so the pace of play was like playing on my own private golf course. Highly recommend you give this course a go! Bring your A game because it is a challenging course for sure with all the crazy elevation changes.
We love the course layout. Everything is a little in disrepair.. fun place to play though.
They Are Not Even Trying!
What a shame. Knee high weeds on the tee boxes. terrible fairways.....Appears to be no attempt to maintain a true golf course. A real dump.....$100 for visitors and you expect better. Avoid this place the conditions of the course stink.
I will never go again
I would never go again even if I am paid for it. In every measure, this is the worst.

Course was fun & beautiful. Staff super nice! Great experience! Definitely going back!
Wet and Windy
Unfortunately played on a very rainy day and got drenched. My third time playing this course. Very little room for error on the fairways. If OB very difficult to find your balls due to tall grass and trees and such. Accuracy is a must on this course.
Golfing in the clouds
This is a very challenging course with lots of ups and downs. Greens were good fairways are narrow and rough is high. Lost lots of balls but found lots of balls. Semi crowded. Good golf carts and good rental clubs. Very friendly staff. I even enjoyed all the birds: geese, turkeys and especially the peacocks. Then rain was warm.
Pace of Play
I was all by myself on the front 9; however, I caught up with a couple who were extremely slow on the back 9.
Otherwise, everything else was nearly perfect.
